Vintage Russian Steel Case Shotgun shells
We test out some old Russian import shotshells that use an all steel shell and a berdan primer. How will they function after decades? We find out!
How I made the Double Donut shotgun slugs
This video shows how I created the Double Donut slugs. Pretty simple using only a drill press, a hole saw, files, and deburring tools. The most critical dimension, the outside diameter was done using a 7/8" hole saw. Each slug weighs 1/2 oz.
Double Donut Slugs
A new design I came up that used a 7/8" hole saw, deburring tools, and a file. Each lead slug weighs 1/2 oz and features large hollow points. They worked surprisingly well for prototypes.
Russian Brass Minie' ball vs bulletproof stuff
Today we test Alexey's third design of his brass penetrators. All three designs were the SAME weight but had different nose designs. Brass slugs like this are almost impossible to get obturation (expansion into the rifling) to get proper spin. Lead doesn't have this problem due to its softness. These may have been the most powerful slugs we have tested.
Federal FORCE X2 split-buckshot - tested
We have gotten a LOT of requests to do this and a viewer name Thadius stepped up and offered to send some for testing. I couldn't find these anywhere. We really thought these were going to be gimmicky, overpriced sucker-bait. Surprisingly they performed pretty well. See for yourself and maybe you'll agree.
August 2021 Give-away
First I want to congratulate Lewis Gillard who won July's give-away.This month we have another set of interesting slugs we recovered. The Anferov Bullet (with some ragged sabots), Evan's 50 bmg case slug, Tim's Tenderizer, Finnish scientist polycarbonate slug, and 3d printed carbon fiber slug. All of these were shot and recovered in various videos. They are all "inert" and legal to ship anywhere. If you are interested, just post a comment below to enter. I'll draw a name ...
Triple-Bearing 12ga Shotgun slug
hi everyone. Today we have another creative design by Evan Perry. Evan has a remarkable success-rate for his unusual shotgun slugs. These were no exception.
Testing the Russian ANFEROV BULLET
We are back filming after a couple weeks of too-many reasons for not filming. We test out some Russian discarding sabot slugs, which were pretty tricky to get a decent powder load for. It was hard to find a compatible American powder for this one to function but we thought outside the box to make it work.
What's going on with Danny?
Several of you have asked me to keep you advised on how Danny is doing. I haven't explained much what is going on because he wanted to wait until HE knew everything. When we filmed the footage for the subsonic dumbbell slugs on a pretty warm day, Danny felt VERY weak near the end and almost wasn't able to finish the last couple shots. He figured it was just because of the heat and I was feeling it too to be honest. A few days passed and he wasn't feeling any better so he went to the e...
The Gun that Eats Everything
This is sort of a channel trailer showing how versatile the 12ga shotgun is. I wasn't able to film anything this week because of several reasons but wanted to get something interesting out still.
July Give-away - Recovered Slug Set 1
We try to recover as many shot slugs as we can and I end up throwing them into a box to save. Perhaps you might be interested in displaying a set of these. All of these were in a video and were shot and filmed. Left to right:Tenderizer, Slug from Hell, Carbon fiber slug, subsonic dumbbell, and GatekeeperHow to enter. Just leave a comment below letting me know you are interested. I'll draw a name around the end of July and will send that person a message on Patreon to get their shipping addre...
Meat Hammer (tenderizer) 12 ga. slugs
The latest creation from Ballistic Machinist's diabolical mind. At the end of the video you may have noticed "get well Danny". He was hospitalized yesterday and I'm not sure if anyone knows what is wrong with him. He was experienced extreme fatigue and weakness the last time we filmed together. We thought it was just the heat but it might be something more serious. I hope you'll join me in prayers and good wishes for Danny.
"Ghost" Minie Balls - High velocity tests
We test out slugs cast in the Minie ball shape out of hot glue with a steel ball in them. The goal was to get them to 2000 fps. We set out to film the Anferov Bullets of Russian design but had problem with the sabots being stripped away. It can be tough to find American powders that replicate Russian powders.
Testing the 2oz. Subsonic Dumbbell slug
Tim sent us some of his new slugs to test out. I noticed that even in some of his shots he had a couple go wild and miss. But with the high speed camera footage it should help him wring out the issues. thanks everyone! Still having good luck keeping stuff monetized.
Cheese Cutter (strung buck) Shell - tested!
I mounted 6 buckshot pellets on a copper wire to see if it will control the spread but also what effect the wire has. Actually a really interesting video that surprised us with the outcome. thanks everyone!!
Chalk Wave Marker Slugs
I wanted to see what would happen if we filled the cavity of a slug with chalk powder. Thanks everyone. The monetization situation on YT is still good this year, actually really good. As I have said quite a few other times, If you would like to reduce or even stop your pledge to this channel, now is the time. Not trying to get rich off this stuff, just make enough to sustain the channel and that is happening.
The weird Lead Ribbon Shotgun slug test
What happens when you shoot a slug made out of a lead ribbon? This is a strange one and has some odd results.
Twister 6 Midi-Shells - Impressive performance
We test the Twister slugs with the green BRP12 wads which made quite a difference in performance as well as keeping the slugs a little shorter. This increased the capacity in my 590 from 8 to 9 in the tube magazine. These are designed for smooth bores. The wad acts as a stabilizer. We had pretty good results using full rifling but I suspect the slug would actually perform better if it wasn't attached to the wad. This is something we'll have to test, of course.
Testing some rare S&W Police slugs
We test out some very old slugs which were meant to be used as an anti-materiel round. (commonly misspelled as "material" ).Designed to penetrated engine blocks and other barriers. The problem is they are about 45 years old. (older than a few of our viewers!) Actually a good demonstration of what happens to some powders after so many years.I made an order from Ballistic Products a couple months ago and someone there tossed this in the box. I guess they wanted us to make a video of them! ...
PDX1 Defender 12ga slugs - Best option for home defense?
A very generous viewer and Patreon supporter sent some of these rare birds for us to test out. They aren't the newest round on the market but something we've never tested before. thank you!!
Russian "SHOT-MINI" 12ga Slug - Grenade-like expansion
Very interesting defense slug that behaves like a huge "varmint grenade" when impacting flesh/water/gel. These are pretty new and I haven't found any load data on them. Like many tests, I have to start from scratch and guestimate what velocity they might perform well at. In this test, I think they would have been more accurate at 1200 fps or so instead of 1500. The slugs were cast using Bulletmolds AS-company, mold. They have oddball names for their slugs. I'm sure with more test...
.460 S&W - World's HIGHEST Velocity Revolver
A quickie video showing my brother's .460.
Carbon Fiber (ish) shotgun slugs - Will they Mach?
I was told these were carbon fiber, and later told they were carbon fiberish. Once I got them, it was apparent they were 3d printed, probably using carbon fiber filament. I had almost no hope for them being strong enough to propel them at full velocity, but heck I'm wrong a lot too.
Ballistic Machinist's "Disco slug"
Sorry for the late posting, but sometimes it's hard to sync up everyones' schedules. We test Tim's newest oddball slug that was more of a demonstration of the capabilities of his 5 axis mill than an idea for a great slug.
.40 cal cases used as .44 Magnum bullets
When you can't find bullets in stock, innovation kicks in. It just so happens that a .40 cal case is the perfect diameter for a .44 magnum. We test these unusual bullets and show the results. Thanks everyone!!
Gorilla Glue 12 ga Shotgun slugs (with pachinko ball)
12ga slugs made from Gorilla glue, cast in a diabolo mold with a steel ball inside. We test some just loaded into Federal target loads, custom powder loads (over 1600 fps) and even some double-slug loads.
Electrical Cable 12ga Slugs
We were sent some 1" long sections of 4/0 insulated cable to see if we could get them working well as shotgun slugs. I hope you enjoy it!
Shotgun slugs demonstrate bizarre "ping pong ball physics"
When we filmed this, it seemed nothing was really going as planned and I almost abandoned this project completely. These "twister" slugs consistently separated from the wad- the little screw kept getting stripped out. The footage actually turned out quite surprising as the defect caused unexpected results like the tennis racket theorem and the magnus effect. Currently, I'm having much more luck keeping video monetized and again I need to inform all you Patreons that if you need to re...
Shotgun Firework Shells - Raw tests
Since "bird bombs" or "bird bangers" have become regulated and difficult to obtain, we tested some alternatives that are designed differently but function pretty much the same way. A large, weighted capsule is shot as the time delayed fuse lights, giving around 3 seconds before they ignite. They are pretty inaccurate but since they are designed to be shot into the air, that isn't too much of an issue. These were actually really fun to test out and we had a few laughs along th...
Heavy Metal Bismuth Slugs - Quite impressive results
Ed cast some nice, heavy slugs for us using an Accurate mold and RotoMetal's bismuth alloy. Dimensions, particularly the outside diameter were perfect for rifling. thanks everyone!!
