This gyoji was the equivalent of a yokozuna which is why he wears purple, right? I am assuming that the new highest ranked gyoji will still have a ways to go to reach that rank.

Agreed. And deserved it think? Ozeki gotta look out for each other. I know it's not the spirit of sumo but it's a tough game the high level of sumo and staying there
