Super late to the conversation but it seems like maybe Matthew 19:8-9 sheds some light? Jesus says divorce was allowed under the (mediated) law because of the people’s hard hearts. The theology of this gets complicated but it sure seems like the law Moses gave had some concessions (compromises for human nature?). Whereas as the new covenant through Jesus required no compromises? I’m still thinking this through without trying to promote heresy.
