Just finished the reaction, it was great to get your perspective on it, especially since you are not a big sci-fi or space buff. The movie is not based on a real story but it is fairly grounded in reality compared to most other science fiction, with some dramatic license here and there. The embryo symbolism in the airlock was absolutely intentional, the whole movie is bascially symbolic for her being reborn ending with her "birth" from the water with a rediscovered will to live after her tragedy.
