I'd say it's mostly that there's just a whole subculture based around "Shipping" right now. Always has been to an extent, but it's very big and prominent now where it used to be in print zines and stuff. There are people for whom it's a whole hobby to create and/or consume art about potential romantic couplings in fiction. They look at relationships in fiction through the lens of essentially what would make the best canvas on which to paint their own works. What makes for an interesting romance? Well it turns out pretty much the same as what makes an interesting friendship. Just an interesting relationship in general. If it's fun to see these two interacting with eachother you can translate that fun into a romantic context pretty easily.

After mirror testing my own modest boob squish, I can get results that look like this by rounding forward with my shoulder blades, getting the “press down on the front of the boob” look, instead of a more usually visually presented press boobs in and up, which I think is the norm for created visual media. My much more well endowed best friend would be unable to do this without severely hunching her back, if even then.
