First, some math. The current Saturday Sketch queue is approaching two months. The $20 tier is used by some people to pay for sketch stream slots, saving $15 per month to get a $25 dollar slot. A standard tool in storytelling is to provide the viewer with a chunk of information or an important truth, but in exchange something must happen that sets the characters back. Maybe they find an artifact in a temple and taking it activates a trap. Maybe they discover the identity of a betrayer but now they're hunted by law enforcement. Whatever the story, information comes with a cost, the only rule is that the setback needs to be quickly resolved and yet potentially be where the story ends...

Going to lean more heavily into explaining things, interrogations are about the only time a character can state the obvious and look like an ass instead of coming across as a bit weird.

A continuation of the simulated setting, it took a long time to think of a way to end it clearly, the current idea is "take me to your leader", where there's a kind of revelation the characters can have on the last page that should wrap things up nicely.

Sorry about the delay.The dialogue might be a little rough in this one, I think it's alright but I only spent a day refining it and I might have missed some important things. I don't mean, spent a full day, with writing sometimes putting it aside and re-reading it brings any flaws to light, but that only works if enough time passes and you have time to read it and think about it later. If there's any issues it'd be good to let me know what you think.

My approach to writing these comics has been to have a focus, something the page needs to accomplish. Then, sketch a series of images which will lead to that focus visually. Then, add dialogue in places where the images wouldn't tell the whole story, if the focus is particularly difficult to draw, the image will be much smaller to make room for the required dialogue. It was harder than it looks fitting this much plot progression into one page so that I could make a "69" joke. If it doesn't make a lot of sense in places, that's my excuse.

Since there's no color, I needed to find another way to make the image thumbnail stand out as more than just lineart. High contrast black and white sells the idea of a noir style setting and makes it more interesting to look at, and wasn't that much extra work. Pretty good return on time investment.

It was around this point I started running out of fitting titles for the images, and was the main reason the series needed to be short.

Guess who forgot to post the rest of these images once they were done? I still have the 8th and 9th pages to prepare but other projects take priority.I learned about the problems of cramming too much information into one image panel, I'll be avoiding that in future. This series was mostly meant to test a new shading method, so learning this was a good bonus. Also, the new shading method saves days of work, this should help the main comic a lot.
