4/30 Patron Livestream: 2024 FIRST THIRDLY REPORT

The business RETURNS.Tuesday 4/30 @ 5pm PTTHE FIRST THIRDLY REPORT OF 2024(I'll post the livestream link ~30 mins before)We're having one of my favorite types of special bonus streams: the Thirdly Report. Here, I shall present to my shareholders (you) a slide deck full of updates on the business (me). And most importantly, afterward, there shall be a team-building dinner (I grill something and we hang out and chat and maybe play some Jackbox). It's always fun and attendance is requir...

froghorn.exe - SONG/STEMS/SCORE?

it's froghorn.exe's Song and Stems!!! and a Trumpet Score????That's right, I did a quick export of the trumpet solo into a PDF, just in case any of you play the trumpet and want to attempt this literally impossible trumpet solo (because it turns into a three part harmony). I know that the score has some incorrect bits (measure 21-25 are a bit wonky), but I don't know how to fix that in Logic, so use this as a guideline and fix those bits on your own. An extra challenge.Anyway, ho...

The Making of "froghorn.exe"

Sometimes, you need to spend 16 minutes talking about a video that is less than a minute long. Here's how I made "froghorn.exe!"A little sidebar: I'm trying out Patreon's built-in video player for all of my exclusive videos instead of using Vimeo and making it password protected! Does this work better for you all? I think it streamlines things a little, but I could always keep my behind-the-scenes/bloopers/making of videos on Vimeo and just post the full/ad-free videos using ...

NEW VIDEO: froghorn.exe

The first video of this weird album project is complete! And of course it might be the weirdest one! Here's "froghorn.exe," a video that I made because I can't stop clicking on videos that are less than a minute long of weird little guys made in Blender. I talk more about this in my "making of" video, but here's my addition to "videos that are less than a minute long of weird little guys made in Blender" canon. I hope you all enjoy it.Now I gotta go make the (s...

Brian Brecommends: SUMO WRESTLING

I have already ignored my rule of only recording for 10 minutes/editing for 50 minutes because I am simply TOO EXCITED ABOUT SUMO. I LOVE SUMO. SUMO IS PROBABLY 80% OF WHAT I THINK ABOUT ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. It's been so great to completely lose myself in a sport that I didn't know a single thing about at the beginning of this year. Thanks for all your questions this time around! I realize they're mostly about Dropout (I promise I won't only talk about that in the future, since ...

March 2024 Progress Report!

Let's hop right into it, shall we?WHAT'S NEW ON THE PATREON?Brian Brecommends: PROBLEMISTABONUS VIDEO: Scam Slam JamSCAM SLAM JAM - Song, StemsWas expecting this to be a very dry month on the Patreon, but luckily(?) the scammers helped me make a new thing! So thanks, scammers?WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?The Scam Slam Jam was a surprise project that ate a little bit of my time in the middle of March, but I think it was time well spent! Even if people continue to be confused by TikTok "fa...

SCAM SLAM JAM - Song, Stems

Hey hey, sorry for taking a little longer on this post! I had to figure out how best to export stems from Ableton, since this is the first real-ish song I've produced in that program. Nice! Here's the full scam song and all of the stems, too! Feel free to remix it however you want. That's a funny thing to say about a song that is meant to make sure no one pretends to be me, but there's a difference between reuploading full clips of mine and making something fresh and new by remixi...

BONUS VIDEO: Scam Slam Jam

Hey y'all! Remember how I said I wasn't going to post a video on YouTube until July? A new terrible development changed that! You might have seen me talking about this/making this song on my Watch This While You Do Your Art stream a couple weeks ago, but I've had a couple different people message and say that someone claiming to be me has sent them a DM on Discord, and checking if it's actually me. It's not!Same goes for TikTok: there's someone reuploading my stuff as me, ...

Brian Brecommends: PROBLEMISTA

IT'S MARCH! AND PROBLEMISTA COMES OUT (in Los Angeles and NYC) TODAY (and I think nationwide on March 22)! WHICH IS WHY I AM UPLOADING THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW!Problemista is an A24 film, so it will (hopefully) become well loved. But since it just came out, I think it counts as underappreciated for the next few hours, so I'm brecommending it. Everyone should watch it.Links in the video:- Problemista Trailer- Wells for Boys- Papyrus- Clifford (I looked at a different clip in the video but thi...

Feb. 2024 Progress Report (BIG UPDATE!)

HEADS UP! This is a big post that talks about a new BIG VIDEO ALBUM PROJECT I'm working on! It means I won't be posting a video (on YouTube) until July, with the hope that I can post a new video every other week until the end of the year. If you're wondering, "Hey, why isn't Brian posting anything on the YouTube channel?" this post should give you all the details!Happy Leap Day, everyone! Even with the extra day, this dang month goes by so fast.WHAT'S NEW ON THE PATRE...

BELIEVE (Cher Cover) + SPA DAY

Hey Novelty Instrumentalists! It's been a minute since I've uploaded new music for you, but I've got TWO songs that were made during a new stream I've been testing (WTWYDYA: Watch This While You Do Your Art). The first is a cover of Cher's iconic "Believe," and the second is an 18 minute ambient piece that I created with the intention of sounding like the music they play at a fancy spa. These are the first two "fully finished" songs that I've made in Ableto...

The Patreon Refresh keeps on going!TL;DR: SONGFEST 2024, THE LIVESTREAM WHERE I MAKE THE BASIS OF 5 SONGS IN 5 HOURS, WILL GO LIVE ON TUES, JAN. 23 FROM 1-6PM PTFirst, thanks so much for the feedback on the Patreon Refresh post! There were some great new perk ideas, so I'm doing another test of a new Patreon perk: a bigger, randomly scheduled stream! These would only happen 2-4 times a year and would be for the $5 or $10 tiers, but since it's a test, every member will be able to join thi...

Breakfast Sandwich Bloopers

Once again, I find myself with a blooper reel that is more than half the length of the main video. And thanks to the amazing editing of Jeremy (Nativebirds), it's just as powerful as the main video. Might be even more powerful. I leave that to your judgment.WATCH THE BLOOPERS HEREpassword: badtrackrecordwitheggsHope you enjoy the main video and the blooper video, and I hope you're all having a nice end to 2024!

Beautiful Mind DEMO

Howdy y'all! As was the case with the Louie Zong collab, the Tom Cardy collab is split the same way—I get to post the main video to my YouTube channel, and the song proceeds go to him! So the best way to listen to the song is to check it out on his Spotify! So instead of the full song, I've attached a couple of the early demos as we went back and forth on the lyrics and melody. You can see how the whole thing came together (and hear how much work Tom had already put into the track befor...

Beautiful Mind BLOOPERS

finally, after so many months, the Tom Cardy collab has arrived.WATCH THE BLOOPERS HEREpassword: fourteengerbilsThis was so much fun to make. Tom is an amazing musician, and a very funny guy, and an all around delightful human being. Here's hoping we get to work on something again in the future.

September Progress Report

This has been a surprisingly big month, even though I didn't manage to get a video out! So I get to simultaneously experience the two emotions of "excited about the big things that have happened" and "guilty for being unproductive"! a dream i had the other day | SONG, STEMS, SFX

iI's been a minute since I've had SO MANY AUDIO FILES to give you.First off, it's the song! I think I managed to make it sound extremely karaoke-esque while still being catchy and enjoyable to listen to. The final piano part is Karen's playing—I wrote the music and then gave it to her to actually perform on a real piano so it would sound beautiful instead of stilted, which is how I would play it.And then it's the sound effects. Since I wanted to make the video as uncanny as...

THE MAKING OF "a dream i had the other day"

I say this a lot, but this is probably my strangest video to date.WATCH THE MAKING OF HEREpassword: mysonI'll also say that it's probably the most fun I've had making a video in a very long time. A lot of that is because—as you'll see in The Making Of—I spent a large portion of the process creating my son. My beautiful, beautiful son:Let's talk about the impetus for creating this video.DID I REALLY HAVE THIS DREAM?Yes. Mostly. I distinctly remember having the dream of Kar...

sneak preview of the collab video!

Hello folks! Since there's no video for August, I figured I'd give you a little sneak preview from the collab video I'm making with Tom Cardy.I've finished all the main edits and need to go back in for a subtitles pass, but it's in good enough shape that I feel comfortable showing you the intro sequence of the video. There's still another ~2.5 mins in this video, and it just gets wilder. I'm psyched for you to see all of it, but for now:HERE'S THE INTROpassword: d...
