Exploring new game design
🕑 Added 2022-04-04 20:57:04 +0000 UTCA week ago, I stumbled upon a game called "Summer Sweeper" by Impy. It was a decent game and got me inspired.
I decided to test my programming skills and create the first prototype of this new game.
Here's what I have in my mind.
Game Premise :
You played as a male main character who is on a quest in a semi-fantasy land with 3 other people (2 girls and a guy). Your job is to eliminate monsters, complete tasks, or unlock treasure chests. There are potentials for romance, threesome, swinging, etc.
Game Mechanics :
- You have health points. As long as it's above 0, you will be able to MOVE to the adjacent free tile. If your health goes below 0, it will take you 3 turns to fully recover. (Implemented)
- You can also FIGHT monsters if there is at least one of them near you. If you attack, you will get damaged as well. Each monster will be eliminated from the map if its health goes below 0 (Implemented). The amount of damage dealt with and from a monster depends on the base stats of the main character and the monster.
-If you are in the same space as another character, you can ASSIGN them to do certain things. You can click a sequence of adjacent tiles. Then the assignee will move along those tiles. If the final tile is a monster, the assignee will engage in a 1-turn battle. Once the assignee completes his/her assignments, you won't be able to assign the person again after the cooldown period has passed. (implemented)
- You can also INTERACT with the current tile, which depends on the contents of the tile. A single tile may contain a chest, a bush, etc. Interacting with an interactable tile may return some item or satisfy the quest's requirements.
- If conditions are met, there will be opportunities for you to see the SPECIAL scene. This is related to NSFW content.
- If you MOVE, FIGHT, INTERACT, or SPECIAL, this will progress the story for 15 minutes. In a day, you have 16 hours. This implies that you have 64 turns before the end of the day. Once the game reaches the end of the day, everyone will camp out. At this point, if the girls are in the vicinity of the other male characters, they will move toward him immediately since he has a tent. If the main character has tents, the girls will move to the same space as well. Otherwise, they will camp on their own. If at least 2 characters share the same space, there is a possibility of NSFW at night. (implemented)
- If you have at least 1 tent in your inventory while you camping, you have an option to use one of them. Using a tent while camping will fully recover your health.
I think I have implemented the majority of the game mechanics. I still need to design between-quest scenes and relationship mechanics. So far, the game is doing great.
