Dnd, I’d say Kimmy skirted the truth about the reunion incident #1 (grassy knoll) she outright lied to him regarding the business card, and through omission regarding reunion incident #2 (bathroom) and Devlin coming over the Monday after the reunion. I think she’ll convince herself that these are just stretching the truth just like what happened in the car wasn’t sex. TF, you bring up a good point, but I think Kimmy already has some basis of knowledge regarding what the company does... And I’d be shocked if this company was all that large in terms of employees and departments. I’d assume it’s a one man shop with Devlin as the sales guy and manager and then he has people that support him.

yes Josh knows about the physical contact. From re-reading chapters 3-5 it seems Josh believes Kimmy’s story regarding the grass incident as being some sexual aggression on Devlin’s part that she put a stop to... As for the business card, he surmises Kimmy is lying, but immediately removes cheating as a motive and settles on the reason for Devlin coming over is to offer her a job.. Josh is then concerned about Kimmy being Devlin’s ultimate target in his game, but his personal pride gets in his way from stepping in. From this I’d say Josh’s concerns are going to be about Kimmy’s well being and Devlin trying stuff with her again... Which she ought to be able to appease... She won’t be alone with Devlin (a lie), that there are laws against sexual harassment in the work place etc. Kimmy won’t be able to alleviate all Josh’s concerns, but he wants to show he trusts her and doesn’t want to be weak around her so ultimately he’ll say yes.. The financial part will help him sleep at night (it won’t be that bad, if Kimmy leaves after 6 months that’s like two years of salary at her old job, perhaps we could try for a family then). The cuck part of his brain that was upset her phone showed her at the gym will also play a small role in assuring himself that yes is the right answer (he’ll get to fantasize about Devlin potentially fucking Kimmy all day long).

A question…at this point does Kimmy actually know enough about what this position is? She knows the salary, there’s a lot of travel involved and has a three word description of the nature of her work. But for the physical attraction, I’m a bit surprised she would even consider an offer without knowing more details of the working environment including something about her co-workers, whom she would report to, who would report to her, etc. When I was involved in hiring professionals salary was among the last things brought up in the negotiations. Normally she would need to know more about what exactly this company does. All companies need good lawyers, even the sleazy ones (who probably pay the best). So if she doesn’t want to get her knickers in a twist, maybe her best approach to Josh is keeping it in general terms…like, I’ve been offered a position pending a successful interview. Get him to agree to the interview and thereby on the slippery slope. Lot of ways this can go.

I agree with RCH.. Kimmy should easily be able to come up with a believable story regarding the offer. The simplest one would be Devlin texted her the offer. I’m not sure Josh is this big of a snoop, but if he checks her cell phone bill he will see messages between them at the time she was at the gym, so there will be “proof” of her story since the bill won’t actually show the message.

I see Kimmy distancing the events. It'll be: "Josh we need to talk. I got a official job offer from Devlin's company today." This could even be via email from HR. I see the job as a much bigger threat to Josh than Devlin's volume. The job is a total ego boost for Kimmy. Kimmy and Josh are a classic couple that married too young. Josh has his career, but Kimmy has sacrificed hers to fit in with their married lifestyle. Kimmy's ambitions fit more into her taking on the challenge of important job at Devlin's. The sex and accompanying lies is something she be drawn into because it's there. Her arrogance will let her rationalize it away.

Had this story been an actual account instead of fiction, it would be disturbing in that Kimmy's actions and thoughts are pretty much consistent with the cheater mindset, at least in our experience. The cheater rationalizes their behavior. In rationalizing, they lie to themselves and to their spouse. Over time, lies get easier, to the point where the cheater can become a consummate liar. Then the cheater gets sloppy. They ultimately get caught. In the context of this story, a reader has to wonder how Kimmy is going to present the job offer to Josh. She's going to have to explain how she got the offer, where she got the offer, and chances are she'll do so in explaining why she was late coming home. She may even have to explain how such a rendevous was set up. She will lie. It's distubingly real at that point.

You make a good case. But consider this. Josh now knows for sure there was physical contact between Kimmy and Devlin at the reunion although he doesn’t nearly know the extent. On recalling Kimmy’s initial blank reaction to his ‘discovering’ the business card in the drawer he is pretty sure she is concealing something concerning Devlin. Kimmy continuously in the sphere of Devlin’s influence is his worst nightmare. But he has made the conscious decision to trust Kimmy despite these doubts. So it’s my opinion, this trust is what Kimmy can use to gain his OK. Sure the money is (and was) tempting but I don’t think it will play a big role in the Josh’s decision of whether or not to approve of placing Kimmy in Devlin’s sphere of influence…likewise the sexual arousal of thoughts of Kimmy with ‘the big one’. Of course, Kimmy may well decide to take the position in spite of Josh’s resistance. I think she’s strong enough to do so. And, in fact, I would look more favorably on her if she did that rather than manipulating Josh with lies and Devlin-like bull shit. Josh wouldn’t like it but in the end would accept it.

It’s noted in another chapter that Josh has regularly spied on her phone via this app in the past for safety reason. I would imagine Kimmy knows this and is leaving the phone behind just in case Josh looks at the app. I think she just doesn’t want to take chances when she doesn’t need to. As for how Kimmy approaches Josh I think she’ll do it knowing full well that regardless of how she does it it’s going to take more than one conversation. My mom used to do this with my dad all the time.. she’ll spring it on him just before he has to leave for work.. let him get his anger/shock out of the way, but not allow it to be resolved because they don’t have time to discuss... Josh stews it over it all day at work. Kimmy rolls out the red carpet with Josh’s favorite meal and waits for Josh to bring it up. personally I don’t think Josh is going to be that hard to persuade in fact by the time he gets to dinner I think he’ll have already basically convinced himself. I just look at how Josh handled the job offer conversation the last time it was brought up.. The longer he thought about the more he was talking himself into it. While not definitive the financial angle isn’t weak in my opinion Devlin is overnight a 3.8+ time increase in salary, and while Josh may think she can find something better than she has now I doubt she can get that much money elsewhere.. The last time they discussed the job offer it was money that had Josh conflicted and not outright saying no.. Additionally, since then I think a bigger and bigger piece of himself wants Kimmy to cheat so what we all see as his worst case scenario isn’t that bad in Josh’s eyes(I think he believes he can always save the marriage if he has to). Lastly, is Josh’s unwillingness to bring up his interactions with Devlin, which at this point would be the only leg he truly has to stand on to say no she isn’t taking the job without it seeming like a Josh is just being insecure. But since he refuses to admit what Devlin told him in the tent or in text, Josh is left with really no basis to say no.

Tim I disagree Josh has been lulled into a false sense of security. The pinging of her phone reinforced that he was worrying about nothing. She is at the gym. She'll return home and if the guys are still there She'll say her hellos and possibly go lay down. Josh brothers daughter "Sofie?" maybe sleeping in their bed. She lay down with her, it'll be a display of domestic bliss. Josh has to be lulled into thinking he is worrying about nothing Kimmy is faithful. Let her take the job and take advantage of Devlin's generous offer... Amy is still in county according to Devlin. Kimmy may meet with her over coffee (Kimmy doesn't drink). Ah, her phone left behind on purpose…she must be really careful or suspect that Josh is checking her location. I wish I knew more about their history post high school, pre Devlin. Has Kimmy always been so devious? But here’s my prediction of how Kimmy approaches Josh. All indications are that she really wants this job especially the fringe benefits. So being a hot shot lawyer she will carefully prepare her case and choose the appropriate venue (restaurant, bed?). The money argument is weak as Josh can argue that she is capable of landing as good a position elsewhere (her good angel told her that previously). Likewise I think laying a guilt trip on him for standing in her way of a good professional opportunity is a weak argument for the same reason. So ultimately I think she’ll use his love for her to gain his reluctant blessing. I’m not sure whether Josh is weak or just suffering PTSD relative to Devlin but even if he is strong otherwise, his love for Kimmy is a weakness that can be exploited. He will cave eventually, as in earlier engagements with Kimmy, he backs off afraid she will think less of him if he voices his fears. Actually I hope I’m wrong as, for me, that would result in her gray hat turning back to black. Whatever it turns out to be I’m sure KT will make it fascinatingly compelling reading.

There is an easy fix for the whole purse thing! The average woman isn't going to leave her purse out visible in her car. So, Kimmy grabs her purse when she takes off with Devlin. They do their thing... When she returns to her car she is surprised to see her phone slipped out of her purse and is sitting on the car seat. Or she possibly sits and is surprised! What "F&%K! did I just sit on kinda thing. Another change is get rid of the condom box! It would be easier to conceal the condoms in her purse if the packets were stored in a inside pocket. All purse seem to have an infinite number of pockets to sequester things. The box is too bulky. I think this is the advantage of Patron you can get feedback that should help improve story-line it's like having a bunch of editors at your disposal.

I gotta agree with RCH on getting Josh on board. I think Josh will eventually rationalize that the financial benefits outweigh the sexual risk.
