CSH

Once the bank has extended too much credit, the lender has no choice but to trust the borrower over and over and over again even though they know they’re being manipulated. The debtor is now in charge of the creditor. So does Josh have a final line of credit he can’t extend beyond? The power dynamic shift is already under way. As she gets addicted to the thrill of getting away with it she’s going to ramp it up over and over again to keep the thrill going. She addictively goes looking for Josh’s final line of credit but can’t find it. Late night meetings, long business trips with Devlin (they visit Amy!), mutual dinners with Devlin (sometimes with Josh along for an extra thrill), noticing the rope burns on her wrists and rug burns on her knees. Nope, those are all fine. How about this for utterly humiliating then: She listens to all the horrible shit Devlin did to Josh in HS then insists Josh invite him to their house for dinner to allow Devlin to “apologize”. At dinner, in front of Kimmy, Devlin tells Josh he’s so sorry he taunted him as AA because of his small penis. (Or some other horrible story) That was so immature of me. Josh gets blind drunk at dinner, passes out, then the next day convinces himself he hallucinated coming to and spying Devlin and Kimmy going at it like animals. That seems the ultimate to me, he actually refuses to believe his own eyes. Maybe it’s not till he finds out she’s pregnant with his child (DNA tests are harder to disbelieve). No need to reply to this by the way, just a chance for me to engage in wishful thinking!

Wess

TZ I was also a huge Shalamara fan! And I think for the same reason - sweet revenge. Sad she stopped writing.

Glaucon

(Of course, I can only speak for my own academic experience, but I feel confident that it would hold generally true throughout legal education in Ontario).

Glaucon

RCH, your comment got me thinking about something. Maybe to the surprise of a lot of people, there is no "rhetoric" training in law school. There is no class about surprises in the courtroom. In fact there are very few classes that have any oral argument component at all. There is no class to teach you "lawyer tricks," there is no deception class (and frankly dishonesty is a terrible strategy generally that is probably just risking your license for something that isn't worth it). They don't teach people how to persuade, even. It's all cold, hard academics, unless you're doing moot court stuff, and even then, they mostly just grade you. Anything else you have to figure out for yourself.

Glaucon

Also, Paper Chase is a very glamorous portrayal of a very "socratic method" style of teaching that is largely out of favour in most law schools. I had one prof (Contracts) who was visiting from a school in Ireland who got a lot of shit from students over running the class in that method. When students know they're going to basically be graded entirely on their exam performance and answers to concrete legal questions, they tend to have not much patience for spending class time on winding debates/discussions.

Glaucon

Yeah we have ethics courses, just like any other course, exam and everything. Actually my fave prof was our Ethics prof (he taught Evidence too).

DavidSilver

Oh ... that ending. Learn to love the new taste, Josh.

Tim ziegler

KT I just like to even the score!

Donkatsu

KT, I think Janie bothers you more because John is otherwise a good guy and not weak or submissive. He earns an honest, tough living in an inhospitable part of the country. He's pretty much an all-around standup guy. He was never the victim in HS.

Donkatsu

In Amazon Prime’s excellent The Fall (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294189/ ) with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan, there is a bullying subplot. The bully, who has a minor role as a wife beater and loyalist tough in Belfast, continues to pick on his childhood victim, now a reporter for a local paper. The victim continues to give the bully what he wants – phone, car, cover - without any more than token resistance. Similarly, Josh will have a lot of difficulty extricating himself from Devlin’s torments the next time they meet. Kimmy will not make things any easier for him. Sorry, David, this is headed to a dark place if KT stays on course.

KT Morrison

I agree! Shalamara may have written me an alternative scene where Geoff gets revenge on Rocco and Dino that I really enjoyed.

KT Morrison

This is weird: Janie bothers me way more!

KT Morrison

Great insight here!

KT Morrison

Note that Kimmy dresses in all black like any good true Nihilist.

KT Morrison

What if trust isn't real? It's not a tangible. It's a gift delivered to another. And a small sliver of submission from the gift-giver. Is it possible to offer the gift of trust even when the other may not deserve it? Sometimes the act of trusting is a selfish act more intended to reward the giver than the receiver. In that case, trust can be extended over and over. Like a bank, the loan comes with heavier interest the worse the borrower's credit rating. It does not stop the lending. There may be more penalties and higher interest, but the loan stays intact. (Shit—expect Devlin to say all this at some point, ha ha)

CSH

I really loved the Maggie books. LoL.

Tim ziegler

Donkatsu I agree with just about every thing you’ve said. What I like in this type of book is revenge and my favorite author in doing this is Shalamara Jax in at least half her books hubby gets even one way or another.

TF

Yep, love is blind as they say. The question is what will Josh do when he discovers his sight? I don’t think we know the answer yet.

DavidnDaria

You mention Janie... See that story doesn't bother me at all. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because of KT's writing. Maybe it's because it's happening in Canada and Canadian's are supposed to be so nice. (That was not meant to be taken seriously.) All I know is up until this chapter, it bothered me, but it didn't bubble over. Now, it's bubbled over and while I know what I would do (not what I did), it's not happening or hasn't happened, yet. So, here I sit, Daria and A with me and Daria snickering that it's the new "Maggie" for me. I don't know. I really don't know.

Donkatsu

CSH/T(F+Z)/DnD: Agree, things get worse (a lot worse) for Josh before they can start to get better. Josh can man up, but he will have to hit some breaking point. I suspect that the other two women, Amy and Karina, will play roles there; Amy to add to his torment and humiliation and Karina to buck him up. In KT’s universe a pushover like Josh has to learn the hard way, especially in this more sever “flavour” of hotwifery/cuckold stories she seems to be headed toward. On the other hand, KT's gals that cheat openly and inflict unjustified pain on their men ultimately are made to suffer as well. Hear that janie? Devlin could get tired of Kimmy after a while (he will be largely satisfied after fucking with their marriage, fucking Kimmy, and showing Josh once again who’s the Boss), leaving her horny, unfulfilled and prowling around London with Amy on a “business” trip. DnD, agree that so far this is a cheating story. IMHO, that is not likely to change soon, Kimmy is having too much fun and Josh has much farther to fall. Of course, I make these predictions in full confidence that however plausible or even likely they sound, KT will go some other direction, leaving us/me flatfooted once again.

CSH

Josh wanted to lose that fight, he just wants reassurance from her. He asked her to tell him she loves him and isn’t cheating. She told him she loves him and isn’t cheating. Then he rubbed his own face in the evidence that she is cheating. At the moment, it’s hard to lose when fighting Josh. His enthusiastic gullibility will likely make her progressively more brazen as she develops an addiction to seeing how much she can get away with.

TF

You know, it doesn’t take much to fool someone you can get to trust you…confidence games are really profitable. And if that someone also loves you it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. That’s why I don’t give Kimmy any points for her metaphorical Houdini escape in the last scene. Do I like this story? Not really but I can’t stop reading…the writing is incredibly good.

CSH

Well don’t get too discouraged when he drops even lower. He’s just starting out on his journey, I don’t think any transformation will happen before Devlin and Kimmy really rake him over the coals.

Tim ziegler

CSH that is the one thing that keeps me reading is just to see if Josh will man up.

Chinookfan72

Agreed! KT is my favorite author in this genre because of the ladies she writes about, and Kimmy is my favorite one so far.

Chinookfan72

i can empathize with Josh with his current predicament, but I think he needs to do a shit ton of soul searching too.. Kimmy is burning the relationship to the ground, but Josh’s inability to communicate and open up to his wife allowed for the gas leak that served as the fuel Kimmy needed to start the fire. Personally I think both Kimmy and Josh are better off apart so better they find out now then years down the road.

CSH

I find Kimmy’s character to be one of the most interesting drawn by KT. There are elements like cheating, cuckolding and D/S that are more front and center here than her other work. There’s an exploration by our main characters of their darker sides and in many ways the worst aspects of their personalities. For this story to work, the main characters can’t always be likeable, sweet and decent. Maybe none of them can be really. They have to think about and do some bad things, even Josh. For me this makes them closer to real people rather than just tropes for a plot. Personally, I find the transformation of Kimmy to be highly erotic and honestly I’m glad the story is taking its own unique path. I understand why others may not be thrilled but I am. We already know that Kimmy is not as nice as she always thought she was. Maybe by the end of the story we will find Josh is not as weak as he seems to us now.

RCH

Don't get me wrong I love this story too. The character are amazing!

Wess

Interesting reactions. Each to their own but I absolutely love this story. Maybe as much as Cherry Blossoms. Kimmy's character is fascinating. Not sure why I'm drawn to her darkness but the farther she goes the more I'm drawn to her.

CSH

There’s a subtext there for Josh. I think his awareness of the truth about both Kimmy and himself exceeds his willingness to accept it.

CSH

Yeah I think we cannot assume we know how this ends.

Chinookfan72

Good stuff RCH! I was wondering if perhaps he is enjoying eating out the his wife, who he is still thinking is cheating on him, a little more than he’d like to admit to himself.. Me thinks that’s the case.

RCH

Back in the 70-80s there was a TV series called "The Paper Chase" it was a law school with young lawyers. One of the things that was very evident was how the professor(John Houseman) was always challenging the students. It was to train them to think on their feet to be prepared for surprises in the courtroom. Kimmy is a good lawyer well trained and she used her best tactics on Josh. Glaucon you around can you comment on law school training? I know that there is also ethics training too, that is what gets lawyers in trouble when they forget their ethics!

RCH

It's easy when you're worried about your own survival. If Kimmy was drowning and Josh was trying to save her she would pull him down too if he wasn't careful. Kimmy is just good at thinking on her feet she sees a way out and takes it. Kimmy after climbing to safety tosses, Josh the a lifering and scolds him for almost drowning! Masterful deflection Kimmy.

RCH

CSH I agree with you and I answered DnD above. You can judge Josh harshly but he is a kind, loving guy this is someone that would volunteer to help people or mentor someone. Kimmy is best to know this about Josh and use it to save herself. Now, I believe she is thinking it's a one time thing that she is saving Josh the pain too. Kimmy will make a habit of lying to Josh and at some point it'll come out one way or another. KT will decide how the character handle it...

RCH

I feel for Josh don't think anyone should be treated badly. Devlin's philosophy of Josh draw the shit to himself is bull. It's like saying a defenseless puppy or kitten is just asking to be stepped on. Some of us try to give people the benefit of doubt but you also need to be cautious too. Josh is at that place where he whats to believe Kimmy and is giving her the benefit of doubt now. Will he start logically analyzing the situation and all the facts only to come to a different conclusion later? Is he thinking of Kimmy having sex with Devlin while he is down there? Why is he so hard? At some point I suspect Devlin is going to bring up the conversation in the tent between him and Josh. I think he'll use it to manipulate Kimmy for another session telling her Josh wants this. That also maybe the point that she and Josh have a come to Jesus moment and Josh accepts his roll. We'll see where KT takes this.

Tim ziegler

David I’m with you just not into this type of book!

DavidnDaria

I will write this again, cheating is one of the hardest things to get over. Trust is gone. Completely gone. It's gone now with Josh, he's just in denial. He knows what's up, but here's the thing, he doesn't want to lose Kimmy. He might deal with this situation for a while, but sooner or later he's likely to reach a breaking point. Yes, on a level the feelings are real and that's why it's not erotic for me at all. Because it's a story, you might be right that Josh is looking for the treatment he's being dealt. KT has just done too good conveying things for me to find this story erotic. Is it entertaining, yes. I've written this before in the blog that I understand cuckolding on one level--logically. I don't understand it emotionally at all. I find anyone wanting emotional pain or humiliation to be beyond what I can understand. Belittling somone at all is something I don't get. Then again, that's part of what some cuckolds get into. It's not me to judge, but I don't get it emotionally. Bullying is something that I find so completely wrong that it bothers me that I find this story entertaining. I suppose I suspend disbelief in that regard better than my normal comfort level would allow.

TF

Yes, I do.

CSH

I think the behavior is very real. She just cheated, intends for it to be a one time thing. Of course she lied. What was she going to do, confess? Also, of course we feel sorry for Josh but last I checked you can’t have a cuckold story without a cuckold. He’s being mistreated but I suspect there is more to it with him than that. On a certain level, Devlin’s right, he’s looking for it. Who gets a hard on thinking about your wife with your bully? Personally I suspect Josh will turn out to have a lot more backbone than it now seems. He’s gonna have to suffer a lot to find it though.

Tracey52

I’m with you David. Its reverting to read though

DavidnDaria

Does anyone at all feel for Josh, besides me? I know it's a cuckold story, but shit... maybe Kimmy will be honest at some point, but I doubt it. She knows she can pretty much get away with murder, now. Once so empowered, people show their worst side. Now, she's an outright liar. No excuses can be made for this behavior other than Kimmy gets what she wants. Not erotic at all for me to read. Daria liked it, said it shows human nature at its base level--survival until she doesn't need Josh.

RCH

Well he bought her story! That is why he is motivated to do a good job! He feels like a shit heel! This is why Kimmy is so evil, she has managed to make herself the victim. Josh is the bad selfish husband not understanding how hard she is working! As to Josh being in this situation in the future well it is a cuckold story! I can see Josh becoming a virtual sommelier of well used Kimmy in the future.

Chinookfan72

Anything is possible in the mind of KT.. If Josh does detect anything down there does he confront her? based on his current mood in the story I’d think he would and I’m not sure how Kimmy could get out of that one. For the story I’d think it’s best he doesn’t detect anything this time, but I would almost bet my life savings that he will be in a similar situation in the future and will be detecting something.. It’ll be interesting getting a Josh’s POV whilst he is eating Kimmy, finding out his motivation for doing such a good job will be interesting.

RCH

What Kinda Sick Evil mind dreams up this stuff! KT that's who! Wow it totally works Kimmy just craftily lied her way out. Josh bought it I would too in his situation. Can't stand a woman crying! Will he detect anything down there? Hum. It's been a few hours(3+) Kimmy's bacteria have had time to work on the sugars in Devlin's semen. He may detect nothing but a wetter Kimmy and less of an acidic tartness. Masterful KT!

Donkatsu

Many Kimmys, all of them the real ones - Josh's best friend, gilded strumpet, cheating wife, Josh's co-tormentor, super-lawyer, a needy little girl in Josh's arms, the triumphant badass reveling in Josh's humiliation . . . . Lots to unpack here. Can't wait to see how this intra-Kimmy civil war unfolds!

Tracey52

She has a hell of a nerve. How can you blatantly lie like that and turn it on your spouse?

JamesIsAsleep

In the latest installment of 'I swear I dont like 80's music yet I love everything that comes out today that draws inspiration from that era' The Weeknd's latest album put out this KT style banger https://youtu.be/NB4VW-uc6A4

Chinookfan72

really enjoyed these last two chapters.. I really want another Kimmy/Amy conversation. Kimmy needs some friendly positive reinforcement and I wanna hear Amy’s reaction to what Josh did tonight... Also looking forward to a Devlin/Josh in person meeting (one in which allows Devlin’s bullying and humiliation to continue) as well as the next Kimmy/Devlin interaction.. Will she play hard to get or will the ease in which she gets away with this make it easy for her to give in to Devlin..

BNR

I read this chapter was getting ready to say how disappointed I was with how it was going now. ... Then Josh headed South! ... (Insert DUMD and DUMBER "and totally redeem yourself!" meme) =D =D =D =D

Josh's Theme 2... Cool For August "Don't Wanna Be Here." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFpkggBQpO4 Lyrics: Don't Wanna Be Here Cool for August Something's wrong, my mind is gone. It won't be long before I lose it made. I will crawl into my soul to Find a way to escape this Sorry world. Don't take offense by my Cold-hearted nature I can't escape the dreams in my head And where is the voice of yesterday's cries Take me away from all your lies. CHORUS: I don't wanna be here For the rest of my life I don't wanna be here Something's wrong... I don't belong here Staring at the people, they talk about Whispering words to spite my passion I'll move on maybe I'll live in chance Now it don't make sense why you're Just like the rest It's easy to see I am the one you attest Oh this awful life has a change as the hours As you pass before my eyes CHORUS Downtown isn't the future there All of my repsect for you go get washed away Now that you've come back to me You giving yourself, That's all that I need. CHORUS You know I'll be here You know I'll be here

CSH

Wow. She really did it! Bet she’s gonna want this every time Devlin makes her sore. Here we go on a wild ride!

JamesIsAsleep

So Kimmy can weasel her way out, good job Kimmy! She is a piece of work, able to keep her cool and stick to the script as her husband demonstrates the kind of anger she knows he should feel if he knew the truth of her actions. Shes able to hold back from feeling the shame of her actions in the moment, and focus on what facts he is revealing knows about and is lucky enough to evade the one piece of evidence that could be damning for her, by accident. Kimmy better remember to keep that lie going in the future if she wants to avoid being caught ... "So how are those dresses coming along?" Kimmy - "What dresses?" lol, luckily she has a kernel of truth in every lie to fall back on.

Donkatsu

She's a badass alright. Josh better get used to the taste.

DavidnDaria

Denial. I crawled out of my skin, looking at my pain and self But it seems I've fallen in denial The truth I admit, something that I long to find And it always comes in denial The longest I lived, and sectioned the river passes through And the margins weigh hours, half past tomorrow And I will heading from the line, and mile high in magic Take me away to another time, like a child that passed his away Ohh, take me right back to a grand world Ohh, take me right back to a grand world Life is what you imagine, powerless of descent And I've lost myself The future is certain that the rain will provide us With a new shade that pours its way out Half past the silence And I will be heady from the time, with crashes and province Make it seem right and then come to find, why the time has carried me away Ohh, take me right back to a grand world Ohh, take me right back to a grand world Life is what you imagine, powerless of descent And I've lost myself I crawled out of my skin, looking at my pain and self But it seems I've fallen, again, denial.
