You're not wrong, Kat, and neither are your Andrew. But they are both here because they want to be. There are a million different emotions and thoughts flitting through both of them, but in the end, the darkest part of both of them want to see this through. The question just becomes what does the end once they are through this look like. We know what Devlin is going to do. He's predictable. Kimmy has had him enough times to know exactly what he likes and what he'll do and say. The question is how much does Kimmy lean into that to give Josh what she thinks he wants and how much does she selfishly take for herself. Where's the balance point she works toward? The last couple of chapters before this she was firmly on team Josh, but this... this is decidedly shifting towards selfish Kimmy where she's more about herself, which is what got them here in the first place. Because she spent book after book reveling in cheating on Josh. Now she's reveling in rubbing Josh's nose in it. But how far is too far? The interior monolog of calling Josh pathetic and wormy, of saying he's a kitten, not a lion, portend bad things, I think. Because they give Josh no credit for being just enough of a lion to stand up to Kimmy before Devlin got here and make this happen. Because Devlin can pat himself on the back all he wants, but Josh hates his ass way too much to do this for any other reason than his own. And for Kimmy. Jake has this right. You're killing us with how well this is being written, KT. I love it. I hate it. It's spectacular. And we see Kimmy losing her resolve, she's trying, but this is quickly spiraling out of control where she's making it more about her than about Josh as she had originally intended. It will be interesting to see how far this devolves and how much Josh can take before it becomes too much. And then what does Josh do? Give in, crumble? Or bolt? While Devlin laughs his ass off at the chaos and destruction.
