The Haremlit Thing

This was a while ago. I think it was 2018. It never went anywhere at all and I think it made me like a grand total of $35.
Problem is I really like the story. I like it a lot.
It started as a fun erotica, and I wrote it first as a futa story, where this guy ends up at a girls college (more on how the story works later) and all these college girls who are experts in the occult are futanari (you know, with the penises).
But then somewhere near the end of the first arc, I thought it was too good a story for throwaway futa erotica. Like, do futa fans want all this complicated story? Probably not, I figured. I never published it. I let it rest.
Then I rewrote it as a Reverse Harem romance. Why not? It had witches and werewolves and vampires; it seemed like it would work. I threw in a fated-mate storyline and got it rolling. I didn’t think it worked at all once I got into the rewriting. I let it rest.
Then: I have some writing friends who were having a lot of fun in haremlit and litrpg. I did some research and thought, wow, these are some fun-ass books. I read Jan Van Stry’s first book in the Valen’s Legacy and thought, heck, yeah, this is a hoot. So I rewrote my original story as a haremlit and it really worked for me. I had a lot of fun. I couldn’t get too KT with it, because I felt like I was writing for a different audience. So it’s KT but KT in a tight jacket. But, gosh it was fun.
No one else responded to it. No one cared. I put out two books and got a big collective yawn. I let it rest and no one ever asked about if it was coming back. No one signed up for my mailing list. Boo hoo.
Last year, I thought, shit, maybe the readers on Radish would like it. I blew the dust off the Reverse Harem version and began posting it. A couple episodes in, someone complained to Radish that the characters were underage (not even close there, sister) and I had to change it. At least the people at Radish are cool (not like some of the other storefronts) and gave me a nice email about the matter. I pointed out how it was impossible the characters were underage, how the guys are in college and the main female character is an F.B.I. Agent. Anyway, after that debacle, I closed the book on this project.
Then I was like, shit, no way, this story is fun, damn it! Another writer said put it up on Royal Road. So I did that. More crickets.
But I still don’t want to take this fun story and just throw it in the trash. It worked the best as a haremlit, and that’s the way I want to do it. When I put it up on Royal Road I shoehorned RPG elements that weren’t natural, so I should take those out.
What I’m getting at: If you like my writing and you like haremlit and litrpg I’m hoping you might get a kick out of this book. I want to post it here on Patreon (and on Ream) and have you read it, just for some fun. Maybe you could say hey, you know what’s wrong with it, KT?—this: and present me with why no one likes it.
This book is already written and will not get in the way at all of me finishing Reza, Separate Schools, Six Weeks, et al. Maybe I’ll present it like Chelsea’s late night horror show (Chelsea from Chelsea Hates Libby). The book has old movie elements (gosh, right away, maybe that’s where I messed up!).
So can I tell you about my haremlit version? Cool. Okay, get this: a young guy who is a new F.B.I. agent is promoted to Special Agent In Charge, which is like a job he should not have in any way at his young age. But it’s to be in charge of a special occult division. He has to fly out to New Hampshire and work with this girl’s college that has this extensive library and knowledge of the occult. Right away, things in New Hampshire are crazy and unbelievable and he finds himself in this black magic /occult murder mystery (and he might be at the center of it) and it’s probably his imagination, but his nails are growing, he’s getting fangs, he’s getting bigger too, isn’t he? Gosh, he’s not more than he thinks he is, is he?
Here’s the flashy haremlit part: Yes, he’s a werewolf. And those college girls? They’re witches. Turns out witches love wolves, big time. Like, wolves and witches are symbiotic in their power wells; one supplies the other. This is best shared by forming covens (you know: harems), and practicing sex magick. Covens are delicate things, though, and you have to find the right balance in numbers and types of witches. Here’s the thing: someone extirpated werewolves some while back, so the main male character is an incredible find. He’s one lucky guy. Too bad there’s a lot of bad stuff going on around them and it can’t be all about sex. He’s gotta solve a mystery and maybe save the world.
It’s urban fantasy, taking place in our modern world. Its fantasy world is one of Lovecraftian cosmic horror merged with black magic and occult Hammer films out of Britain in the 60s, plus werwolves, witches, and vampires. It’s fun and sexy, but also with dire consequences, and a real genuine mystery... I spent a lot of time working on characters having dialog and working out getting to know one another, etc. It’s very KT. More KT than my romance novels. I think that even if you don’t like haremlit you might still enjoy this book. Plus, my KT writing is the most like how I really like to write. It’s not commercial (obviously!) and I don’t have an editor telling me to change things or get to some scene quicker. This harem writing is also how I like to write (though I did make choices I thought the intended audience might like).
The series is called Warlock Wolf. The first book is called Bring the Night. Here is the blurb from the first episode:

There are harem elements, or coven elements to be more specific, occasional gruesome violence, seances, creepy whodunits, ritual murders, magic swords, devil dolls, assassins... And why the heck is his body growing, anyway, and what’s the new obsession with bloody meat?

Starting this week I'm going to post the chapters and some of the artwork I've already made. I'd sure appreciate some input, and I really hope you enjoy it. This was a lot of work and I want at least a few people to get a kick out of it!

I would probably read it KT! But hope you eventually pick up Landlord next! There is a scene in it after Jonny and Charlie fight and after she blows Tate that actually got me teary eyed. I feel like that series stopped right when it was reaching a proper conclusion with Jonny finishing his game and Reza coming back to wreak more havoc in their lives! Thanks KT!

Lol! Thanks, Chris. It's a labor of love. And hate. Mostly love. Speaking of John Van Stry, if anyone wants to dip their toes into something by him without signing up for a 17 (I think that's where the main Valen's series stopped before he started with the children) book series, he has a new one out that is sci Fi based with starship battles and mechs. No harem in this, or at least not yet. Might never be. The female lead is... well, just read it, you'll see. She's more than a match for the MC. (Series has a lot of POV shifts, so if that's not your thing, probably should stay away)

Sorry for being late to this party, KT. This is so *much* my thing, but i didn't see it until now because I spent the last 7 hours (that I was told by the manufacturer would take 3) putting rock rails on my Power Wagon. So I was pretty hacked off and not in a good mood. And now this. Its like a little ray of sunshine to make everything better. I. Cannot. Wait. For. This. See, my biggest gripe with many, not all, but many (John Van Stry who you referenced does NOT fall in this category, he's great) feel like haremlit should be a revolving door of girls for the guy to have sex with. And a story breaks out somewhere in there while the MC is bed hopping. I hate that. I don't want the meaningless sex. The BEST part of haremlit, when done right, is the relationships. The emotions. How characters navigate unconventional relationships (sort of like your "normal" KT stuff). The best haremlit novels have love, heartache, challenges, dynamic dialogue. All surrounding the relationships. Its not just sex, it's love, romance and partnership. Just more of it. One of the things I always look for in a good author of haremlit is that it's not about quantity, its quality. Slow roll the relationships. That doesn't mean no sex, but it means that each book is devoted to letting the reader find out something special about a character. And the next book gives you more about someone else. Done well, its a multipart romance novel where every woman gets her stage. And she's shown to be something special. And that's why I can't wait for this. Because I know you get it. The way you write your characters, they aren't throw away, they're meaningful. So are their emotions. They're meant to have impact. Gravitas. You feel connected to the characters because of how much effort is put into making them special. And I can't wait to see what you came up with!

Sorry that you have to deal with the insane accusations of the Karens of the internet reviewosphere, I know how much you care about reader opinions. You know what you did creating the first high schooler capable of being an FBI agent, jk. People are wacky. It was a long time ago where I was curious what other things you were up to, knowing KT wasn't your only endeavor. I'm hopeful that you find success in whatever you want to write. As always, do whatever your muse tells you to do.

Well I liked Matthew Lee's: Hunting Rachel series! Supernatural stuff is cool. More main stream Mark Tufo has a range of Zombie, vampire, werewolves and various other time slip/alt-universe stories. Witches with extra accessories what could go wrong? So sign me up!

I'd say my opinion is irrelevant here, as I enjoy reading your hotwife/cheating stories myself. The fantasy thing does nothing for me personally, however if you enjoy writing it and some can get enjoyment out of reading it, go for it!

Like Karl, I enjoy DnD. I also love Fantasy, and this story sounds like a really fun ride! I particularly love the element of him growing in ways he can't control. That must be a sharp contrast to all his training as an agent, which I imagine focused heavily on control; of others, of the environment, of situations, and especially of oneself. 😀

Honestly, KT, I continue to be blown away by the sheer volume of writing you can manage. What’s in the water out there? Something I struggle with a lot, so I have a ton of respect for it. I think I internet sleuthed my way to this one before! I knew you’d said you had a number of pen names out there and I was curious. Looking forward to reading some chapters. I wish that market decisions didn’t have to encroach on your decision-making process for any stories at all, but I understand you.
