A little life update

I know I don't necessarily need to share anything personal here so if this is something you're not interested in, just skip this post.
A few weeks ago we received some news that ngl got me really angry, depressed and even feelings of betrayal? it's nothing life threatening but it's life altering nonetheless.
Our landlord surprised us by not renewing our contract this month and asked us to vacate, after being here for 8 years, we have to say goodbye to the home we knew.
And yes, this is after I made some home improvements to it out of pocket to make my current workroom, I honestly don't know if the landlord though about not renewing the contract or not at the moment I asked for authorization to make that room, I knew pouring money into something that wasn't mine was a huge risk, but we honestly thought of staying here for a good 2-3 years more to enjoy the place being that we were under the impression that he was ok with us as tenants all these years but decided to raise the rent, which we totally understood, we were paying way below the market value for the house in the area we're in and for how big it is, we had an agreement that he'd raise the rent periodically every 6 months to reach a certain value, doing the math it was going to be 2 years until we got there, but now he changed his mind.
I was told by his sister who was the person administrating the property before her brother, that the landlord's son who like in the US can't pay for anything anymore and can't afford to live there so he offered the house to him.
Tijuana has been heavily gentrified for decades, lot's of people work int the US but live here, most of these people have dual citizenship, it's common in places like these that there are lot of people that have kids in the US just for that while being Mexican citizens and now those kids are adults that can't afford to live in California so they decide to come back, most of these people own properties here and those are the ones we rent, but now we're getting kicked out thanks to the social political climate in the US.
We were hoping to buy a home, heck we even offered the landlord to buy it off twice but he declined. It sucks to rent, millennials are cursed with possibly never being able to have our own home, prices have gone up exponentially everywhere and it makes me lose hope that I'll ever have something I can call my own.
Do I feel like I was taken advantage of? Yes. Do I feel like total 🤡 for spending money on something I didn't even get to use for a year? Absolutely, but I guess this was a lesson to be learned. It couldn't have happened at the worse time, all this year I've had delays and now it's seems like 2024 is not finished with me for that.
But now we have a clear plan on what we want but it will take another year or two to finally call something our own, for now, we just have to put our heads high and move forward because there's nothing really we can do here.
We've fortunately found a new place just 2 blocks away so we won' have hard move, but still, it's having to pack everything, declutter, sell and donate shit and I don't have the headspace to do it right now but I have no choice.
We should be fully settled by the first week of January so things should be back to normal by then.
For now, I just gonna pick myself up from my bootstraps and move on, I already cried, I already got angry, I already got depressed because of the news, but now after seeing the new place, we're definitely going to have an upgrade, it's nice, fully renovated, spacious and it actually makes you feel good vibes, plus our furbabies will have a large walled off backyard where they will be able to go outside and enjoy the sun on a little patch of grass, most importantly, all our display cases fit and have spare room for the next 5 that are coming in January 🥴 (hooray for Moducase orders taking a year to fulfil!)
I'll still be active online but all of my projects will be on pause for these few weeks while we pack and move.
I'll be sure to post some pics of new place, my workshop room will actually be bigger than the one I renovated here so that's huge PLUS, more space to work in.
Moral of the story? Don't be an idiot and spend money on something that isn't yours 🙃 also, don't be a millennial.

i feel for you, leona, i hope everything goes well for you, hubby and furbabies :(( i know you don't wanna hear that right now, but if the new place is like you said in your post, maybe it did come for the best and you all will have a better environment to live and work from now on. i just wish you the best, and like someone else mentioned, if you have a kofi or something i'm sure a lot of us would be more than glad to help you get back on your feet, me included ;U; stay strong, our resin queen <3

I’m so so sorry, I understand the drama well, having just gotten word that I can renew my lease, when I had fully expected to be told to vacate; I too was prepared for the possibility. I’m glad that you’ve found a place quickly but I am sorry you have to do a love so quickly. Take the time you need, as well as for your mental health. Let us know if we can do anything, even if it seems small. I know I’m a bit far away to help moving, even for pizza and cerveza, but I’ll be sending all the good energy that way for a smooth time of it

That really blows! I’m so sorry he did this to you after letting you do the renovations. If he had any thoughts the person would move back from Cali, he should have said no or told you to hold off. This world seems to not care about people or think too far in the future for others and it sucks.

Girl !! I swear to god you better tear down that work room out of spite— His son as no right to enjoy your labor. And ANY other upgrade to house needs to be reversed! Moving back to Mexico because he can’t afford the US? Well he better start from the bottom and not think he’s moving into a fully furnished updated home. God I’m so pissed off for you guys!!!

Maybe it's just me but I'm petty as hell and would literally rip out every improvement I've made to reset the increased value. Glad to see that you're landing on your feet though.

I though about it, but that would mean I'd have to spend more $$$ to tare down the wall I put up and I don't wanna spend any more money here, but my petty side did really really think about doing it

lo de milenial me paso XD aca en chile todo está por las nubes ni arrendar solo se puede y lo de gastar dinero en algo que no es tuyo tambien jajajaja inverti todo lo que tenía en ayudar a mi ex y tres años después que terminamos aun no me recupero económica y mentalmente, sirve como lección ya no se puede confiar en la gente solo queda avanzar, aprovecha que se vienen las fiestas y que comienza un nuevo año esperemos que sea para mejor cuando uno es artista hay que ver los cambios como algo positivo y si no focalizar el enojo en algo creativo jaja, ojala ahora puedas estar más tranquila y que sirva también para deshacerte de cosas que sabias que no ocuparias pero estaban estorbando, muy penca lo que te paso pero en casos asi nada se puede hacer un abrazo gigante
