Chad listened in horror. Who would be willing to give Ms. Everhart control of an entire world?
“What…kind of ideas?” Kelly asked. The curiosity in her voice was evident.
“Well for one, I intend to design a totally new form of Martian male,” Ms. Everhart said. “Martian men will be totally shaped by me and my team. “Oh no you don’t!” Ms. Everhart said.
Chad’s skin began to tingle and he cried out as everything around him began to expand and grow. The Adtenuo Gun was remarkably effective, shrinking Chad with each passing second. “Not small enough,” Ms. Everhart said. Kelly gasped as Ms. Everhart pointed the gun at him and fired again.

Chad felt tingles all over his body and he put his hands on his head, screaming at the discomfort and horror of the sensation as he got even smaller. Ms. Belmont stepped up to the edge of the table. Ms. Belmont lowered her hand to the petri dish and dropped Chad back into it. The dish now seemed more like a large stage. Its circular glass lip was as high as Chad’s thighs. “It appears that the Adtenuo Gun reacted as we predicted in tandem with the subject’s pre-existing cellular conditioning,” Ms. Young said.
Ms. Everhart nodded, peering down at Chad from what seemed like hundreds of feet above. She turned back to Ms. Young. “Excellent, and what about the research on its use on unconditioned males?”
“Results are inconclusive to non-existent at present,” Ms. Young said.
“Hmm…” Ms. Everhart said, tapping a finger agains her chin. “All the more reason for you to ramp up our marketing campaigns in untapped markets, Kelly.”
Kelly nodded. She wasn’t even looking at Chad, so engrossed as she was in the professional discussion taking place. Her devotion to her work was real.
Yet Ms. Belmont continued to stare down at Chad with a single-minded gaze. A hungry look glittered in her eyes. He felt a growing apprehension about being ignored by Kelly for this long while so close to Ms. Belmont.
A strange feeling tugged inside of him as he felt Ms. Belmont’s eyes on his body, an inner hook in his genes that seemed to flow and resonate between Ms. Belmont’s hips, as though her body was pulling him toward her, calling him. “Wait! I can stay conscious! Just keep me in a safe spot!” Chad shouted.
“He’s trying to say something,” Kelly said.
“I choose to believe he’s pouring out his adoration toward us,” Ms. Belmont said. “We’re practically goddesses to him now.”
Kelly actually smiled at that idea.
“That’s not what I’m saying!” Chad exclaimed. “Use one of the microphones or bend down! Listen to—”

Chad blinked. It felt like his mind had bounced off of something, snapping back from some unknown darkness. He was resting in the gold hollow of the pendant, but it had been turned sideways.
