Kim giving off abrasive, probably territorial, energy with that look really is telling about why there is friction between them. Kim cares and maybe feels a need to protect. The other girl (whose name I have forgotten) seems driven to impose how she feels on others. A natural place to butt heads between the two characters that have some connection from another area of their lives.
