"Hello, sir!"
My father's colleague, a stout man, bowed smoothly at a 90-degree angle.
"Let's introduce the future father-in-law. Greet him."
"Hello, I'm Jo Jun-seok."
His son, Jo Jun-seok, was chubby. His features would be fine if he lost weight, but the acne scars were noticeable.
He was the opposite of what I had hoped for in a husband, but I couldn't show disappointment. That would be rude.
I composed myself and looked at him again. Fortunately, his face seemed kind. It was similar to my father's.
Yes, being handsome isn't important. What matters is having a kind husband who will care for me, rather than a bad person who treats me like a commodity.
"Is Yu-mi not greeting us?"
"Hello...nice to meet you...my name is Jo Yu-mi."
The daughter from the other family seemed older than me by about two years. She wasn't unattractive, but not particularly pretty either. She was average.
I wondered if she was from the National Capital University or Livestock University, but I couldn't ask. Today was the meeting.
This was a time to evaluate whether I was worthy of being part of their family. I was a product, something to be sold to that man.
"Sit down."
"Yes, sir!"
The family members sat down.
"Sit over here."
"Thank you, sir."
Finally, the colleague's wife knelt beside him.
The colleague was unattractive, but his wife was relatively better. She was short and had small breasts, an average woman. I observed her closely to gauge how livestock were treated in their household.
In other families, mothers with poor treatment often had visible scars and unhappy expressions.
However, this woman looked clean and had a calm demeanor. It seemed my father had chosen a good family.
"Let's begin."
My father's gaze signaled the start of the meeting.
I bowed again, placing my hands on either side of my head.
I knelt slowly, trying to move smoothly. That was what distinguished a high-quality livestock.
I knelt and slowly lowered my head to the ground, bending my waist.
Thud. My forehead touched the floor.
"Ah...vagina."
I had forgotten about it because I was dressed.
I needed to spread my legs slightly so my vagina and anus were visible.
I moved my thighs apart, feeling my clitoris relax. This was perfect.
Now, all I had to do was greet them.
"Jo Jun-seok's future livestock greets you respectfully."
"Indeed, you have the dignity of the director's daughter."
The colleague's comment was a success. I had done it in one try.
Now, only the evaluation remained.
The final test to confirm whether I was a virgin.
"It's not much, but please take care of her."
"No, sir! Please don't say that. I'm grateful that your daughter has this opportunity with someone like him..."
"Your son is a valuable asset, having graduated from the National Capital University. And he's kind too."
"Don't mention that. Graduating from the National Capital University means nothing if he can't even get a girlfriend after four years..."
"Thanks to you, our humble daughter got this chance."
"I wonder if your daughter will like him. Honestly, he's not handsome..."
"Be careful with your words. Character is more important than appearance. He seems to have a good personality, just like you."
"Haha, well, at least he has a good personality! You know, he once helped a livestock that had a heart attack at Central Station."
Livestock are commodities. Even if they're injured, they're not treated like humans; they're usually taken to a veterinary hospital by their owners.
But he provided aid?
"Really...he might be a kind person."
My racing heart calmed down. I had been worried, but this was about my father's colleague, not his son.
"Great job, really impressive. It's not easy to help a livestock like that."
"I apologize. I believe all lives, whether human or livestock, are precious."
"And he's humble too...haha..."
My father seemed pleased with Jo Jun-seok's actions.
"Anyway, let's move on. Let's check if there are any flaws. I've raised her well, but there might be something I've missed."
"No, sir! I've heard you've raised her well. What flaws could she have?"
"But still, let's check..."
"Okay, sir. If there are any flaws, I'll buy him a drink."
"If the father-in-law offers me a drink, I'll gladly accept it."
"Haha, well, even if there are no flaws, I'll still give you a drink."
"Thank you, father-in-law."
It seemed the colleague and his son liked me. They referred to my father as "father-in-law."
"Now that the meeting is over, please tell your daughter to stand up. I was going to tell her not to stay in that position earlier, but..."
"That's no offense. Why would you want to embarrass me?"
"I didn't say it because it seemed like you might take it that way, but honestly, these actions are burdensome for me."
"That's true."
"May I call your wife...?"
"Yes, that's fine."
"Do you love your wife?"
"Yes, I do."
"I do too. She's a woman who has given me true love. It's not right to treat her as a commodity...a livestock. But that's how the law is..."
I understood why my father trusted this man. His thoughts were different from most men.
He considered women as loved ones, not just possessions.
"Though my son is lacking, he has a warm heart. He'll take good care of your daughter."
"...Thank you. Really, thank you."
My father's voice trembled. He was relieved.
"Now, Sol-ah, stand up."
"Yes..."
I stood up slowly. My body felt numb from the short time I was kneeling, but I couldn't stumble. That would show a lack of dignity.
"Come sit here."
"Is it okay...?"
"It's fine. You're not married yet."
I looked at my father, and he nodded.
"Thank you, father-in-law."
I bowed at a 90-degree angle and sat across from Jo Jun-seok. He was shy and couldn't look at me properly.
"Let our wives stand up too."
"Yes, sir."
"Is it okay, sir?"
"Yes, it's fine."
"Senior, may I sit here with them?"
"Yes, that's fine."
The colleague's face lit up.
"I brought something for you to wear. Please put it on and sit."
It was unthinkable for a livestock to sit with a man at a restaurant. Someone might report it.
I glanced at my brother. He thinks livestock should behave like livestock. My mother, too, when my father isn't around.
But legally, livestock can't sit in chairs at restaurants.
The meeting was going better than expected.
The meeting continued in a warm atmosphere.
The wedding was set for a month later. My father wanted us to have time to get to know each other.
"You don't have to spend a dime, sir. I'll prepare everything: the house and the dowry."
"No, we should handle the dowry."
"No, it's not necessary. You've given me a precious daughter. I'm already in your debt. It's a bargain, haha!"
"What about the venue for the wedding?"
"We'll have it at the Capital Hotel."
"Wow, that's quite expensive."
"It's fine. I've earned enough from my work. You've also spent generously on your daughter, haven't you?"
Perhaps it was because of my expensive meeting attire, with the luxury brand logo prominently displayed.
"How many guests do you expect?"
"Well, since we have many mutual acquaintances, adding about 30 more should be enough."
"Then we should book the largest hall."
"Don't overdo it. It's not necessary to see it in person."
"But we should let everyone see your daughter's beautiful appearance."
"...Alright, then."
The atmosphere was bittersweet. Was this a happy or unhappy occasion?
"Sol-ah, will you invite friends to the wedding?"
My future father-in-law asked. I was torn.
The wedding would be the last place where my rights are guaranteed. After that, my rights would end.
Should I invite friends or not?
Yes, I should. It would be nice to have a photo to remember them by.
"No, sir. I plan to invite about 10 friends."
"Good. Then the wedding plans are finalized. Let's enjoy our meal."
We began eating.
"Is Min-ho doing well with his university entrance exams?"
"He's not very bright, so I sent him to a boarding school."
My brother didn't get a chance to speak before my father replied.
"Does he have a girlfriend?"
"If he makes one, I'll kill him. He doesn't even have time to study."
"Oh, come on, sir. You wouldn't kill your own son, would you?"
"He's a troublemaker. I wonder how he became my son."
"It's just a phase. He'll do well since he inherited our intelligence."
"I don't have high hopes. Tsk."
"By the way, my daughter is a problem. She's in her second year at Livestock University and still hasn't found a husband."
My father immediately caught on to the colleague's comment.
"This guy is no good."
"Why? Are you worried about wasting him?"
"No, it's the opposite. Your daughter is too good for him. He's more suited to the livestock in the public sex processing rooms."
Thwack! My father's warning was severe. My brother was thrown to the ground.
"You idiot! What did you understand from what I said?! Keep your mouth shut!"
"I...I..."
My brother rushed out of the meeting room.
"What a guy..."
"Senior, your words were a bit harsh, weren't they?"
"He treats his mother like a livestock."
The atmosphere turned somber.
"That guy may have acted normally in this society, but I'm ashamed. That's why I say your daughter is too good for him."
My father doesn't sugarcoat his words. He tells the truth, even about our family's embarrassing stories.
The colleague seemed to understand and didn't pursue the topic further. The rest of the meal was eaten in silence.
As we left, the police were waiting at the entrance.
"We received a report that a livestock sat in a restaurant chair."
It was my brother's doing. He continued to act recklessly.
My father's expression turned stern.
"There must be some misunderstanding. That never happened."
"Yes, who would put a dirty livestock on a chair? Ugh."
The colleague grabbed his wife's hair and shook it, trying to deceive the police.
"Do you have CCTV?"
"This is a private meeting room. Who would install CCTV here?"
The police looked at us skeptically. The mothers were naked and on all fours. The colleague had treated his wife roughly, which didn't raise any more suspicion.
"Well, it seems someone made a false report. Sorry for the trouble."
The police left.
The meeting ended like that.
And my brother never returned after that, neither to the boarding school nor home.
