'Is that the sound of sex???'
To Eugene Schneider's ears, it was clearly the sound of sex.
Unlike the simple moans that his elder sister Charlotte had repeatedly made in the past,
This was a full-fledged sex moan with depth and tempo.
The pattern of moans as a man's cock began to rapidly enter and exit a woman's pussy,
Creating heated excitement and stimulating pleasure that rose to chin level,
Accompanied by unrefined, panting-filled breathing,
These moans, marinated in pleasure and completely flushed, were stimulating Eugene Schneider's ears.
'But it's still early evening?'
Swish...!
Since it was so much like live porn,
For the virile 21-year-old Eugene Schneider, it was impossible to simply ignore.
While he had heard roughly about knights within the Orléans family,
Stories about adventurers and mercenaries were limited to the romantic orthodoxy he heard on the pilgrim's path.
In other words, today was essentially Eugene Schneider's first time experiencing the depths of mercenary culture,
Which is why he had watched the retired mercenaries' argument with curiosity.
And now, an early evening sex scene near the mercenary tavern?
Eugene's head, which had paused momentarily to assess the situation,
Began to turn toward the alley beside the dark mercenary tavern wall.
"Oh my, Brother Eugene! You shouldn't look so openly!"
Tap tap tap!
As Eugene's head turned toward where the sex scene was unfolding,
Thomas, who was ahead, quickly approached and stopped him.
"Daytime lovemaking gets you called crazy, but when it happens in dark places in the evening, pretending not to notice is an unwritten rule. It can escalate into a big fight if you're not careful."
Afterward, Thomas clearly impressed upon Eugene
The essential precautions when encountering the depths of mercenary society, through rapidly whispered words.
Along with mentioning other races, there's another unwritten rule in mercenary society.
That is: don't disturb a mercenary who's releasing dopamine.
Since being a mercenary is a life-risking profession,
They always overflow with dopamine and testosterone.
Therefore, if they don't sufficiently release these regularly, it can lead to unnecessary conflicts and bloodshed.
As a result, mercenaries consume alcohol, meat, and sex like friends to expend their belligerence.
This is especially true after experiencing life-threatening situations or seeing blood during quests.
In these cases, the sex becomes extremely violent,
And if interrupted, there's an 80-90% chance of knife fights.
"Now that I hear it, I understand."
Being someone with decent empathy, Eugene Schneider
Immediately agreed after hearing Thomas's logical explanation.
"Hmm..."
Having received appropriate coaching, he withdrew his gaze from the danger zone
And looked at Jeanne, who was already entering the mercenary tavern.
'Jeanne wasn't drawn to the early evening sex scene at all. Maybe she's accumulated more mercenary captain experience than I thought.'
He felt the dignity of Mercenary Captain Jeanne at an unexpected point.
Surely Jeanne d'Arc must have heard the moans too,
But she didn't even flinch, as if it were a common occurrence.
That boisterous Grand Duke's daughter, Jeanne d'Arc de Sel Orléans.
Eugene can hardly gauge how many depths of mercenary society she has witnessed.
'Ah... this isn't the feeling I expected. I wanted the first impression to show a more romantic side of mercenary society.'
That was half correct.
Lady Jeanne of the Grand Duke's family still gets startled when encountering the depths.
She was merely managing through the pretense she used in noble social gatherings.
"Hahaha! Here, over here! This way, Captain!"
As Eugene Schneider's group all entered the mercenary tavern,
A bearded man with considerable bulk stood up from a sofa at a wide table in the corner and waved to Jeanne.
"Am I a bit late? Uncle Ivan's face is already red."
"Hahaha! Not at all, Captain! It's just that after such a long time, the alcohol is too sweet!"
The man's name was Ivan, appearing to be in his mid-40s.
He welcomed Jeanne, who approached the table, with open arms and a boisterous demeanor.
"Eugene, this is Uncle Ivan Igor. He serves as an advisor to our Red Fox Mercenary Group, and his class is Shield Axeman."
Jeanne eventually introduced Eugene to him.
"Pleased to meet you. I'm Eugene, a new mercenary Greatswordsman."
Eugene gave a slight bow, showing respect to Ivan,
Who was not only much older but also held the position of advisor.
Usually among mercenaries, power struggles are everyday occurrences,
So bowing at the waist or nodding the head isn't common practice.
However, if the other person is deemed worthy of respect, a certain level of courtesy is required.
After all, the foundation of the mercenary system is freelancers operating on employment relationships.
Therefore, a Maginot Line level of reputation operates tacitly,
And managing it is also a skill.
"Nice to meet you, Greatswordsman Eugene! I'm Shield Axeman Ivan. Hahaha!"
Thud!
"Yes, I look forward to working with you."
Thud!
As the genial-looking Ivan laughed boisterously again and extended his hand to Eugene for a handshake, Eugene took it.
"Wow~ You're taller than me? And your hand size is the same. I pride myself on not being second to anyone in hand size, you know."
Shield Axeman Ivan couldn't hide his surprise at Eugene's physical size.
Having heard in advance that Eugene's class was Greatswordsman,
Ivan had high expectations since the newcomer's profession was a rare class that handles heavy weapons like his own.
The reason being that when categorizing the tendencies of people who choose rare classes, they tend to be either superficially stylish
Or completely genuine, representing two extremes.
But the man before him, Eugene, was taller than Ivan himself at 187cm,
And had hands larger than his, which could freely wield a massive axe.
It could be seen as Ivan's reaction to having his expectations fully met from the physical aspect alone.
'Wow... this uncle's shoulders are no joke.'
Having often heard through various channels that power struggles are important among mercenaries,
Eugene performed quite adequately in terms of expression management.
But his heart was no different from Ivan's, who was repeatedly expressing admiration.
While Eugene was about 3cm taller, in terms of weight class, Shield Axeman Ivan was super heavyweight.
Ivan had a body that must have weighed at least 130kg.
"Now then, let me, Ivan Igor, advisor to the Red Fox Mercenary Group, introduce the rest of your comrades!"
Thud!
Since he quite liked the new comrade,
Ivan placed his hand on Eugene's shoulder and joked around, intending to introduce the existing comrades who were still sitting at the table watching the two.
"This is our healer, Sophia! As you can tell from her attire, she's a secular priest. She's one of the rare secular priests from a convent background. She loves alcohol so much that she got kicked out, hahaha! But her skills are definite; this year her ability level has risen to that of a high-ranking nun!"
The first person Ivan introduced was the nun Sophia, who was sitting beside him.
Secular priest,
Refers to people who possess divine power but aren't affiliated with the Light Goddess Religion.
In the past, there was a significant problem with divine power awakeners not affiliated with the Light Goddess Religion
Impersonating priests.
Under this background, the empire and the Light Goddess Religion pushed them into the framework of secular priests and are now managing them.
They give them the title of priest to notarize their divine power,
But impose heavier penalties if they impersonate Light Goddess Religion priests.
"I came out deliberately to make money, you know~? The most honest thing in this world is ultimately money~!"
Sophia held a trumpet-like alcohol bottle in her right hand and wiggled her left finger.
She appeared to be in her late twenties,
With impressive pink hair visible between her massive cow-like breasts resting on the table and her black veil.
Additionally, her nasal voice conveyed her slick personality quite sufficiently.
As the mercenary and adventurer system became more active,
Some existing Light Goddess Religion nuns or priests switched to becoming secular priests.
This was because there were quite a few who, despite having no faith related to the Light Goddess Religion,
Joined to make a living when their divine power manifested.
Then, as another pathway was created,
They began weighing the stability of being a Light Goddess Religion priest against the higher material ceiling of secular priests.
However, since the process of leaving the order is not an easy one,
It requires quite a high level of eccentricity to be possible.
Sophia is one who accomplished this.
"And this friend is Medical Officer Peter, who was a swordsman but found it unsuitable and belatedly studied to earn a medical officer license."
"Pleased to meet you, Eugene! I'm Medical Officer Peter!"
"Likewise, Peter."
Eventually, Eugene exchanged greetings with Medical Officer Peter.
Peter, who appeared to be in his early thirties, wore glasses.
Though not a noble, he gave the impression of having grown up in a quite wealthy household.
"This young lady here is Swordswoman Mari, a hometown friend of Administrative Assassin Thomas. They're the same age, but since Mari's birthday is in December and Thomas's is in March, they call each other big brother and little sister. Though her physique is small for a mercenary, at just 20 years old, she's already a Sword Walker awakener. Despite her polite personality, she has a stubborn spirit, so her swordsmanship is also rapidly improving. Thus, she's performing the role of swordsmanship instructor for the sword soldiers in our Red Fox Mercenary Group."
"P-Pleased to meet you, Eugene! I look forward to working with you!"
Thud! Bow!
"The pleasure is mine. You're clearly my senior in this mercenary group."
"Haha! S-Senior? How embarrassing!"
The third person introduced was a young lady with dark brown bob hair sitting on the sofa opposite Ivan.
Her name was Mari,
As soon as she received Ivan's introduction, Mari immediately stood up and bowed deeply to Eugene.
With a height of about 165cm,
Her body type was slim for women who live by the sword, as Ivan had said.
However, at the Sword Walker level, even with Mari's physique, she can exert strength beyond that of an adult male,
So depending on her technique, there's no problem in living as a mercenary.
"And finally! Personally, I think this friend plays the role of mascot in our Red Fox Mercenary Group even more than Captain Jeanne d'Arc. So who is this person! This person is none other than!"
Thud!
The introduction of most of the Red Fox Mercenary Group's executives was complete.
But Ivan's tension hadn't dropped at all.
Rather, as if saving the real deal for the highlight,
Ivan, the advisor of the Red Fox Mercenary Group, extended his right hand with an even more passionate voice and expression to call out the last comrade.
"Huh? Where did this friend go?"
But where his right hand pointed, there was only an empty sofa seat with no person.
As a result, Ivan had a puzzled expression with rounded eyes.
"Yeah~? Where did Priscilla go? She was just posing while looking out the window a moment ago~?"
Sophia joined in the reaction and mentioned the name of the missing comrade.
'Priscilla, a name Jeanne mentioned quite meaningfully during her prior explanation.'
At that name, Eugene also had an interested expression as he looked at the empty space on the sofa.
But at that moment, from beside him,
"What, are you all looking for me?"
A quite youthful voice was heard.
'A child?'
Swish!
A voice that couldn't help but attract attention given the location was a mercenary tavern,
Eugene immediately turned his head toward the direction the voice came from.
'Is it really a child?'
Eugene's eyes widened rapidly as he turned his head.
The angle of his turned head seems sufficient to understand the reason.
Priscilla, who had approached Eugene's side,
Was wearing green monk's robes with a hood.
Eugene was looking down at Priscilla for quite a while.
This was because Priscilla was quite short.
Swish!
Perhaps sensing Eugene's unusual gaze, Priscilla also turned her head to look up at him.
"!!!!!!!"
At the revealed face of Priscilla,
Eugene was so surprised that his mouth fell open for a moment.
"Is this the newcomer who just joined? Hmm, he looks a bit foolish, unlike what the captain said."
'An elf!!!!'
Mysterious emerald eyes and hair color,
And elongated ears that even the hood couldn't fully cover,
Her appearance was clearly that of an elf.
