Lies.
All of this is a lie.
Tell me it's a dream.
This can't be happening.
They say my grades were switched.
With those of Sol-ah, whom I least wanted to see.
No way.
That can't be.
I studied much better than her!
I was better than her!
How can this be?!
It's impossible!
My dad...they say he manipulated my grades.
I could have entered without any manipulation.
My grades themselves were wrong!
The scoring was incorrect!
Why don't you believe me?
I cried in court and told my story. You should have listened.
My dad made a foolish choice.
If my grades were suspicious, he should have protested. Why did he switch them with Sol-ah's?!
Our house was confiscated, and my dad was sold to a forced labor camp.
At least my mom might be better off.
Living in a doghouse in our yard is worse than having a new owner.
Of course, her looks and figure have deteriorated, so she won't find a good owner.
The problem is me.
I was expelled from the university.
My grades weren't bad, though...
I had a boyfriend, a third-generation chaebol heir, since my freshman year.
He dumped me as soon as I was expelled.
I even greeted his parents...!
Apparently, I wasn't the goal.
My dad, a high-ranking government official, was the target.
How could they dump someone like me with such a great body?
My dad's position isn't that important.
You pig!
Can someone like you date a girlfriend as beautiful as me?
You should date someone as ugly and pig-like as you!
...What do I do now?
I have nothing left.
My ex-boyfriend took the luxury sports car, designer handbags, and designer clothes he gave me.
[O Ji-hye...this...]
Before my dad was taken away, he handed me a small piece of paper.
I thought it might tell me where he had hidden some money.
But what was it?
[Sorry, daughter.]
Just those two words.
A scribbled piece of paper.
Whose fault is this?
Is he asking for forgiveness with just that piece of paper?
That's too much!
He's just going to the labor camp, but what about me?
I had the ability to enter the university proudly!
But because my grades were switched with Sol-ah's, I lost everything!
Now I have no choice but to become a commodity!
What did he do to ruin my life like this?
Is saying sorry enough?
If he's sorry, he should give me the money he hid!
"Number 24, O Ji-hye!"
"...Damn...damn......"
"Number 24!!!"
Is that me?
Whoosh!
My hair is pulled back, and my scalp feels like it's being torn off!
"Ahh!"
"Why aren't you responding, O Ji-hye?"
The man wearing a red hat with a visor was a disciplinary officer.
Yes, that's right.
I entered the disciplinary facility.
After being expelled from the university, I enrolled in Livestock University.
Cases like mine, involving academic fraud, are admitted as third-year students.
If I don't find a husband—my owner—by the end of my fourth year, I'll be sent to a human production factory...
I ended up entering as a third-year student because of my dad's mistakes.
I didn't do anything wrong.
It's unfair.
Where else does this happen?
Damn...
"Damn!!"
Thwack!
I feel immense pain in my buttocks.
The officer hit me with a large wooden paddle.
I have no strength in my body.
My legs feel weak...
Thud.
I collapse.
"This isn't society, Number 24! You're resisting the officer and cursing?"
The man's voice is loud and thick, like it could tear my eardrums.
No man has ever yelled at me like that before...
"I know who I am! I shouldn't be here!"
"All trainees enter under the same conditions. It doesn't matter how well you did in society, Number 24!"
"I'm a university student! I'm different from these future commodities! Take me out of here now! Something is seriously wrong!"
The officer's expressionless face cracks slightly.
Yes, I'm a university student!
I'm a genius, unlike you, who are destined to be commodities from birth!
"Number 24, O Ji-hye. You were a university student but were admitted to Livestock University due to academic fraud."
The officer reads from his phone, speaking clearly and loudly.
"That's wrong! My dad was the one who committed fraud, not me!"
"The re-scoring of your exam confirmed that you are ineligible for university admission."
The room, which had been quiet, starts to murmur among the trainees.
"What's wrong with her?"
"Is she crazy?"
"Doesn't she know her place?"
"She's completely insane. Let's stay away from her."
What's going on?
They re-scored my exam?
Why didn't I know about it?
My dad didn't tell me.
Why did he hide it?
Why is he making my life so miserable?
No!
None of this is true!
"No...! Noooo!!!"
"It seems like it's not working. Kim, the assistant!"
"Yes!"
"Bring Number 24 here."
"Yes!"
I feel a muscular body lifting me up.
"Ahh! What are you doing?! Let me go! Get your dirty hands off me!"
I struggled, but it was useless.
What's going on? Is this place only hiring strong men?!
"Number 24, snap out of it!"
Thwack!
It's much worse than before!
It hurts!
My buttocks feel like they're tearing!
"Ahhhh!"
"Number 24, do not scream!"
Thwack!
"Ahh...stop it! Please stop! It hurts so much!!!"
"Do not scream, Number 24!!!"
No! If I get hit again, my buttocks will be torn apart!
I covered my mouth with both hands.
"Uuuu..."
I tried not to make a sound, and the beating stopped.
"Good. Kim, take Number 24 back to her place."
The sound of boots hitting the floor.
The assistant's grip on me loosens.
"Huuu..."
My body wobbles as I sit down.
"Number 24, stand up!"
I don't want to resist anymore.
I want to obey, but my body...
Suddenly, the officer's eyes sparkle in front of me.
I used all my strength to stand up.
"At attention!"
"Yes...yes!!"
I tried to stand at attention while stumbling.
I mustn't fall; otherwise, my beautiful buttocks will be torn apart...
"Good, Number 24! If you resist again, you'll go straight to the punishment room. Do you understand?"
"Yes......"
"Your voice is too soft. Do you understand?!"
"Yes, loudly!!!"
My voice comes out automatically.
Damn...I don't want to follow...
I'm not the kind of person who should be treated like this...
Tears fall.
I grit my teeth and hold back my tears.
If I make a sound, I'll be hit.
The indoor hall is quiet.
The other girls watched me being brutally beaten.
Fear has settled in their hearts.
"The disciplinary facility director is entering!"
"Attention, all!"
Click!
No one told us to align our feet, but they almost simultaneously come together.
Right in front of the stage.
The director, wearing a red hat with a visor, enters.
He's a typical fat man with a belly.
"Salute the director!"
The assistant in front of the stage shouts loudly and gives a salute.
There's a bit of confusion about whether to bow or salute, but most follow the assistant's lead.
I also saluted.
"Rest."
"Rest at attention!"
Click!
The power of violence is truly great.
It unifies the actions of these women, who have nothing in common.
"Ah, welcome, livestock university students, who have entered the third disciplinary facility in Seoul. I am Director Seol Min-sik."
Gulp!
Cough!
Suddenly, an assistant brings a cup to the director's mouth.
Ptoo!
The sound of him spitting through the microphone echoes throughout the hall.
"Ah, sorry. As I've aged, I've developed a cough."
He's like a low-class person, behaving without manners...
But I wonder how he can do this in a public setting, given his power.
"This year, 500 livestock university students have entered...! You are all beautiful, of course. You must be beautiful to enter this facility. Feel proud if you are told you are particularly beautiful."
What's going on?
Don't all livestock university students enter this place?
I looked around.
Everyone has above-average looks.
What about those who are less attractive?
......
But that's not my concern.
"As you know, you will undergo a six-week training period at the facility.
You will become the vanguard of solving the world's top priority tasks.
This process will make you true patriots, so please cooperate fully with the officers and assistants, even if it's difficult."
Gulp!
Cough!
Again, the disgusting sound fills the hall.
No one protests or shows discomfort.
Not even I can react.
"What else can I say? That's all for now."
"Attention, all!"
Click!
"Salute the director!"
Click!
This time, everyone salutes in unison, though a bit awkwardly. They seem to be doing their best.
After the director leaves the stage, the officer who hit my buttocks takes his place.
"The orientation is over! Now, we will conduct a physical examination and orientation right here.
All trainees, take off your clothes!"
Suddenly, murmurs start around me.
I'm also shaken.
What...what did they say? Take off our clothes?
...Here?
