'Is that underwear? Our dear brother Eugene's...?'
That white thing even looked a bit damp.
It was clearly the underwear of Eugene Schneider, adopted son of the Orléans Grand Duke family and the absolute idol of brother-complex little sister Elizabeth who viewed her dear brother with all sorts of beautiful images.
The 20-year-old Elizabeth's expression froze, her eyes wide open, as she looked down at the idol's underwear, or rather that unclean thing.
Thud...!
Eventually Elizabeth fearlessly picked up that damp and secret monstrosity,
'To handle such an important thing so carelessly...'
Thanks to this, she came face to face with her beloved dear brother's intimate item and couldn't hide her bewilderment as she looked at that pitiful underwear hanging limply with moisture.
The reason being that normally for high nobles, underwear is placed separately in a basket.
Not only is it very personal content, but it can sometimes be directly linked to assassination attempts, so it's to specify who handles it.
In other words, seeing something so directly connected to her brother's wellbeing rolling around on the floor,
Brother-complex Elizabeth couldn't help but be displeased.
But hadn't Eugene been away from such a life for 2 years and 4 months?
Moreover, with his past life memories intervening, he had become extremely lazy and just took them off carelessly.
That became a butterfly effect and Elizabeth de Sel Orléans
Encountered her dear brother's underwear for the first time in her life.
That wasn't all.
Thud...!
Something fell to the floor from Eugene's pants pocket that Elizabeth was holding in her left hand.
"!!!!!!!"
Hearing that sound, Elizabeth looked at the floor beside her.
After that, in front of the object that entered her view,
The eyes of Elizabeth, youngest daughter of the Grand Duke family, widened more than ever before.
'Is that a con...dom??'
The thing that drunken secular priestess Sophia had given to Eugene at dawn telling him to do well with Jeanne,
The extra large condom, exaggerating a bit, said to be the size orcs use
Revealed its majestic appearance before Elizabeth.
[A quest request came in from the Mercenary Association so I'm currently at Mari's lodging. I may have to stay here for a few days. Originally we should have stopped by the Black Hair Forge together, but there's more to check regarding the new quest than expected, so it seems you'll have to go alone, Eugene.]
The next day,
Eugene received a letter from Jeanne.
The reason Jeanne went out again immediately after returning home the previous day was
Because a message arrived from Thomas.
Thomas, being of the Assassin class, when Jeanne is at home
Sends reports by tying letters to the legs of small birds he has tamed over a long time.
It's a method usually used when there is quite important report content,
And the content of the message that flew in this time was a new quest requested through the Mercenary Association.
'At this point, not being able to meet face-to-face is actually more worrying. Since I can't gauge how much Jeanne is shaken, it's difficult to come up with an active countermeasure.'
During the day,
Eugene is heading to Mina's Black Hair Forge.
His expression showed he had many more thoughts than the previous day, with a completely different feeling.
Honestly, from Eugene's perspective, he now just wants to openly talk to Jeanne about what happened yesterday morning.
So he wants to reach an amicable agreement with his non-blood related sister Jeanne.
However, Jeanne, who ultimately didn't return home last night,
Seems determined not to come back for a few more days.
Of course, the reason itself for Jeanne choosing to stay out seems sufficient.
But if you think about whether several days of staying out is appropriate,
Eugene can't shake the feeling that it's unnatural.
No matter how you look at it, Jeanne is deliberately avoiding him.
In other words, it means Jeanne is severely conscious of the incident at the time,
So he's not sure if a proper conversation for agreement can take place in the future.
'It's even harder to bring it up within the mercenary group. In a life-or-death job, is there room to waste emotions on such personal matters?'
Moreover, the two had agreed to maintain their relationship as captain and mercenary group member as much as possible while doing mercenary work.
So persuading her at a mercenary group meeting is even more difficult.
Thus Eugene's quick resolution project seems to be going down the drain.
'Heh, in various ways life after returning has become quite spectacular.'
Eugene Schneider let out a hollow laugh.
With the drastic changes to his body, he had somewhat expected the new aspects of life unfolding before him to be quite spectacular.
And in fact, it had become more dynamic than expected.
But that aspect was not a dark fantasy action drama, but an R-rated love affair.
'Getting armor while clearing my mind would have been perfect. Jeanne, you fox... I thought you were a bear but you were a fox?'
Eventually Eugene reached the mercenary residential district street where the Black Hair Forge sign was visible.
'Huh? There are fewer people than last time? There should usually be more at this time of day? Could it be a day off? That can't be... I definitely had an appointment with Mina today?'
As Eugene approached the entrance of the forge,
He tilted his head at the sight of the forge being not only quieter than last time he came,
But with no people walking around visible.
He took out the notebook where he marked dates.
As a result, he confirmed that his memory was not wrong.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
At that moment, the sound of metalworking came from inside the forge.
'Oh, I guess Mina is inside after all!'
Step! Step! Step!
Eugene, who had been hesitating at the entrance,
Responded with a bright smile to that metalworking sound heard amidst the considerable quiet
And moved his steps inside the forge.
'Is she working on something personal separately? It seems today isn't normal business?'
Upon entering,
Eugene discovered that the furnaces of the other blacksmiths at Black Hair Forge were closed.
Usually when they step away briefly, the furnaces are left as is.
In other words, it means the furnaces had been closed since morning.
So Eugene was convinced that the sense of déjà vu he felt at the entrance wasn't wrong.
Thinking that, as he approached further inside the forge where the metalworking sound was coming from
"Wow! The sound really changed, big sis!"
An excited, cheering voice was heard.
'Huh? A child's voice???'
It was the voice of a boy who seemed a little over 10 years old.
'That's right. Mina is with a young child.'
After taking a few more steps in, Eugene's expression changed from questioning to certainty.
"Does big sis use such a big hammer for this?"
"That's right. Big sis is big and strong like this. But Michael, you'll be able to do it too in a few more years. In your case, you were born with large hands and feet, so your physique will definitely improve from now."
In the workshop of Mina, chief blacksmith of Black Hair Forge,
She, dressed more plainly than usual, and
A brown-haired boy holding a small hammer were talking intimately.
"Ooh! So will our big brother Michael become a blacksmith like big sis Mina?"
"Ahh~ I want to grow up quickly too~!"
It wasn't just those two people in the workshop.
In the corner on a long wooden bench sat two children a bit younger than Michael, watching the two people in front of the forge's anvil.
The children eagerly watching while munching on prepared snacks,
Judging by the state of the clothes they were wearing, looked like slum children.
"I'm so sorry, Eugene-nim. I was teaching the children and forgot it was time for you to arrive..."
Bow! Bow! Bow!
Eventually Mina apologized to Eugene with a voice full of regret,
Repeatedly bowing her waist and head.
So a few minutes ago,
Eugene had stared blankly at the unexpected scene before him for a few seconds.
At that moment, from behind Eugene,
Another little one discovered him while bringing water for the younger siblings.
Thanks to that, Mina also realized that Eugene had arrived to pick up the armor he had ordered from her about 5 days ago.
Flustered by that, Mina explained the situation and is now bowing her head like this.
"There's no need for this, Mina-nim. I didn't wait long on this side anyway. Besides, you were doing a good thing. If you apologize, it makes me more uncomfortable."
Eugene sincerely calmed down Mina, who didn't know what to do.
Mina, who escaped the underground city in her mid-teens,
Wandered around various places for several years.
Then at 20 years old she entered this mercenary residential district.
After working day and night for about 4 years, she inherited the forge and
Added more money she had saved to sufficiently expand the existing forge before opening Black Hair Forge.
What Mina started pouring her efforts into after obtaining her own forge
Was helping the slum children existing outside of Pangea.
Just as Mina herself was able to escape the hellish underground city thanks to her master's grace,
She wanted to give hope to children in similar circumstances to herself.
So she spent her own money to regularly supply food, clothing,
And medical supplies.
Furthermore, she's trying to pass on her skills to children who have talent as blacksmiths.
"Thank you so much for saying that, Eugene-nim..."
As Eugene actively comforted her and waved his hands, Mina's expression became somewhat relieved.
Despite doing such good work,
There's a reason why Mina can't help but have such a humble attitude.
Not just nobles but even commoners
Have a very negative perception of slums.
People who spread diseases,
A place where heretics are born,
Children who engage in pickpocketing and theft from a young age,
So when slum kids are seen in commoner residential areas, curses fly.
Or in certain situations, they grab them by the collar, slap their ears,
And search their bodies to see if they've stolen anything.
Having seen such scenes countless times and experienced it herself, Mina
Is reacting almost at a trauma level like this.
"I'm serious. I also spent time with slum children in the past for personal reasons. So I feel attached."
"I-I see, Eugene-nim..."
Though Eugene was from an orphanage in his past life as well,
In this life too, since his birth father Ulysses Schneider wasn't too bound by life as a noble,
There was a time when he unexpectedly mingled freely with slum people.
So Eugene knew well that other classes' views of slums
Had quite a bit of exaggeration mixed in.
That's why Eugene Schneider conveyed his thoughts to Mina with sincere eyes.
"Then I'll bring the completed armor. Please wait here, Eugene-nim."
"Alright, I understand. Oh, I've become the assault captain of the Red Fox Mercenary Group. It would be convenient if you call me Assault Captain."
"I see you have! Congratulations, Assault Captain Eugene!"
After sufficiently explaining the situation to each other,
Mina headed towards the warehouse to get Eugene's armor.
'Hmm... She seemed kind at first impression, but as Jeanne said, Mina really is a pure person.'
Eugene watched Mina's departing back with a calm expression.
Such a pure and kind woman,
As Mina left her spot, Eugene fell into thought for a moment while waiting for her.
'Haha! If I had a big sister like that in my past life, would I have stopped fighting and lived diligently from earlier on?'
He too was from an orphanage and grew up receiving quite a few sidelong glances from those around him, didn't he?
That influence was not small, stimulating Eugene's rebellious nature and causing him to fight throughout his childhood.
That aggression continued even after leaving the orphanage until his early twenties.
As such, Eugene knows well how much the instability of one's surroundings negatively affects a child's emotional growth.
In that situation, if you had to pick something that was needed, it would definitely be the existence of someone who acts as a mentor and guides you.
Mina is playing such a precious role for the slum children.
Eugene finds her truly admirable and cool.
As Eugene was lost in thought, recalling those past days for a moment
"Excuse me mister... Um..."
Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle...
A girl with a bowl cut carefully approached.
Among the four children who were with Mina,
She looked like the youngest girl.
"What is it? Do you have something you're curious about?"
Smile!
Swish!
She was a child with truly bright eyes.
Eugene smiled broadly at that adorable sight, bent down and lowered his posture to answer.
"Um, well..."
The girl who had approached to within a few steps of Eugene hesitated for a moment.
"Are you our big sis Mina's boyfriend...?"
But the question that came out of the girl's small mouth afterwards
Was shocking enough to make her previous hesitation seem meaningless.
