'Sigh... Why would there be a hole in the waterproof cloth covering it?'
Mina's return with Eugene's greatsword armor was somewhat delayed.
The waterproof cloth covering Eugene's armor had a hole in it, causing it to get soaked by the water sprinkled to cool down the forge.
As a result, she had to spend about 10 minutes removing the moisture from every corner of the armor.
Afterwards, as Mina was hurriedly returning to her workshop office carrying the armor,
"Kyahahaha! I'm flying in the sky, big sis Charlotte!"
"This is awesome! Me too, please, big bro Eugene!"
The children's cheerful laughter could be heard.
It was clearly laughter ringing out as they played with Eugene.
"Whoa! How is it, Jonathan? But you're too light! Can you be a mercenary like this? You'll fall over from the sword pulling you while swinging it."
"Wow~! I'm really flying!"
"Yeah Jonathan, don't be a mercenary, learn blacksmithing from big sis Mina with big bro Michael. Why do you keep wanting to do that when you're such a scaredy-cat?"
When Mina entered where the laughter was coming from, she was greeted by
Margaret and Jonathan riding on Eugene's shoulders.
And in front of them, Michael and Charlotte were looking up at the two.
"Oh, you're here Mina? You had some finishing work to do?"
"Yes... Some water seeped in so I was wiping it off..."
"Big sis Mina! I'm flying! Look at me! Hehe!"
Eugene, who noticed Mina carrying the armor,
Greeted her while still carrying the children on his shoulders.
Margaret, sitting on Eugene's broad right shoulder,
Waved both hands excitedly, proudly showing off to her beloved big sis Mina.
"See you next time kids, and Margaret, make sure to keep your promise to make a flower crown for uncle, okay?"
"Okay, mister! Hehe!"
The children moved back to the office on the opposite side.
Eugene made eye contact with each of them to say goodbye and promise the next meeting date.
"..."
The blacksmith Mina, who came from the underground city, silently watched this scene from behind Eugene,
But with a somewhat mysterious expression.
"You're really good with children..."
After the children had left,
Eugene began trying on the greatsword armor custom-made for him.
At that moment, Mina, who was standing beside Eugene helping him put on the armor,
Expressed her gratitude to Eugene again in a low voice.
Mina was somewhat concerned about separating Eugene and the children.
Because she wanted the children to play freely without feeling intimidated, at least when they were with her.
In other words, if she put the kids in the office because a guest came,
The children might think they were being a burden to big sis.
But Eugene, the guest, filled that gap by playing with the children instead.
"Is that so? Hmm... Those kids are just so friendly and cute. So I had more fun being with them."
Eugene reacted coolly to Mina's words.
After his early twenties in his past life, when he got his act together somewhat,
He actually often went back to the orphanage where he grew up to play with the children.
How could that vibe change even after 20 years?
Glance...! Glance...!
But contrary to his overall relaxed demeanor,
Eugene's eye movements were quite busy.
He was busy constantly glancing at Mina helping him put on the armor behind him through the full-length mirror in front.
'That's right. Just as Charlotte and Margaret said, Mina has makeup on her eyes and cheeks.'
It was to check Mina's makeup state.
Margaret had suddenly come up and asked if Eugene was Mina's boyfriend,
Eugene immediately composed his blank face and carefully asked why she thought that.
Margaret hesitantly replied that she had heard from her older siblings
That Mina had put on makeup.
In other words, Charlotte, who was now at an age to start being interested in dressing up, first noticed Mina's makeup state and shared it with Michael and Jonathan.
Then when Eugene appeared at the forge,
The three little ones guessed that Eugene was Mina's boyfriend and
That she had put on makeup to look good for him.
Margaret, who had blankly watched their chatter from the side,
This innocent little one approached Eugene directly without a second thought to ask if it was true.
'If Mina really put on makeup consciously for me, as the children thought,'
After confirming Mina's makeup state like that, Eugene's mind started racing at the speed of light.
He was figuring out Mina's intention for the makeup.
So in fact, to get closer to the children,
And to more deeply understand the information he had unintentionally acquired,
Eugene had Margaret call the other children and then played with them enthusiastically.
While playing, he casually asked probing questions about Mina.
As a result, he heard that Mina was not the type to wear makeup
When meeting someone while resting.
Based on that,
Even Eugene, who wasn't very adept at women's psychology,
Could feel that the barbarian blacksmith Mina was quite conscious of meeting him today.
'Even though I showed such an obscene side to Mina that day, could it be that it didn't leave as bad an impression as I thought?'
What kind of person is Eugene Schneider?
On the first day he met Mina,
He's the man who blatantly pitched a tent in his pants in front of her face.
It would be startling enough if the size was moderate, but
As Jeanne directly confirmed, he's a man packing a 26cm long, log-thick monster.
So from the perspective of someone encountering that monstrosity, it would be natural to fall backwards.
Despite being so startled and flustered,
Mina's face just went wide-eyed for a moment
Before she appropriately made conversation to buy time for Eugene's erection to subside and smooth things over.
Having experienced that process, Eugene thought that while Mina handled it that way because of her very pure personality,
There must still be some unavoidable unpleasantness remaining in her heart.
But considering the fact that she consciously put on makeup on the day to meet him like this,
Even for Eugene, the man with the erection that day, it made him infer Mina's state of mind was quite different from what he had originally thought.
'Mr. Eugene is so considerate and kind... I've never seen a man like this before in my life... The only similar person was my master, though he was gruff and eccentric...?'
However, Mina's feelings went beyond that.
A woman from the vulgar underground city with a voluptuous body,
And on top of that, her occupation is blacksmith, considered a calling.
Thus, sexual harassment was inevitably a part of daily life for Mina.
But because she was so used to it, and this fantasy world has a fundamentally macho culture,
Mina just lived with it as if it couldn't be helped.
To such a woman, Eugene's behavior in their first meeting a few days ago was a fresh shock.
'I really couldn't believe a man could make such an expression while looking at me...'
Because the forge is not only extremely hot but the humidity reaches extreme levels,
Mina has no choice but to wear revealing work clothes.
Mercenaries who got erections seeing Mina like that would usually smile lewdly and enjoy her flustered reactions.
But Eugene was different.
Though he clearly had an unavoidable erection, he first made an apologetic expression to Mina.
Moreover, he gave her an appreciative eye-greeting for smoothly defusing the situation.
A man's kind attitude that she had never received, being born of vulgar status,
Since becoming an adult she had just been treated as a sexy female piece of meat,
But the man Eugene before her now treated her completely as a person.
'A man like this... Is it okay for someone like me to like him...?'
As a result, Mina's heart developed an admiring feeling for Eugene Schneider, as if falling in love at first sight.
"Is this request that came to us really correct? It seems too large in scale to me?"
That evening,
Another woman whose heart was in turmoil because of Eugene Schneider had a pensive expression.
It was Jeanne d'Arc de Sel Orléans, the red-haired second daughter of the Grand Duke's family.
She had a serious expression as she examined a scroll that seemed to be a situation report.
It was likely the scroll related to the new quest she had mentioned to Eugene.
"The things I investigated separately seemed too out of spec even to me, so I was suspicious like you, Captain. So I thought I should confirm it and looked into gathering additional information, but,"
Unlike other general mercenary groups, when Jeanne's mercenary group receives a quest,
They thoroughly investigate beforehand,
So after obtaining the quest, Thomas sent a message to Jeanne
And then moved to conduct an on-site preliminary investigation of the quest area.
Thus, he investigated from yesterday afternoon until this morning
And is now reporting to Jeanne, the captain, after arriving at Mari's lodging in the early evening.
Having investigated so diligently beforehand,
The overall scale of the quest is much larger than the Red Fox Mercenary Group, which has about 30 members including porters, can cover.
"They say the Black Stone scale mercenary groups already have quests in progress, so it's difficult to mobilize them for the quest we received."
Because of the ambiguous size, it seemed appropriate to request a Black Stone scale mercenary group for stability,
Or to make requests to two White Stone scale mercenary groups.
But the Mercenary Association said the supply situation for Black Stone scale mercenary groups was not smooth,
So they made a solo proposal to the Red Fox Mercenary Group, which is White Stone scale.
"Hmm, from my perspective, it looks like the association is receiving lobbying from Black Stone scale mercenary groups and cutting them some slack?"
At that, Sophia the secular nun, who had done mercenary work the most after shield rabbit soldier Ivan,
Exposed the irregularities of the Mercenary Association.
The Mercenary Association collects quests with set request fees from public institutions, or public figures,
And private individuals.
Then when the mercenary group assigned the quest completes the mission,
The structure is that the request fee is divided between that mercenary group and the association at a certain ratio.
Generally, there's no big problem with the association's administration being carried out with just the association capital secured in that way.
However, as if it's only natural, the Mercenary Association is in a situation where they're not satisfied with that,
So they are desperate to increase the association's capital even more.
"This is a quest that's just large in scale but doesn't have any holes to pocket money from."
In the case of general mercenary groups that have grown to Black Stone level,
It's tight to maintain the organization's scale with just quest fees.
Furthermore, it's practically impossible to grow their influence beyond just maintenance.
So from that point on, medium-sized mercenary groups start looking for sponsors.
Usually wealthy merchants, and nobles who have abundant territory but lack the troops to defend it, are their sponsorship targets.
As a result, Black Stone scale mercenary groups are lobbying the Mercenary Association periodically to only take on quests that can connect them with such sponsors.
Then when the association connects them with sponsors through their efforts,
They agree to share a certain portion of the sponsorship money and provide only the choicest quests to those mercenary groups.
Under such a quest distribution structure, the quest allocated to the Red Fox Mercenary Group this time was neither a quest involving merchants nor one involving nobles.
It was just an ordinary quest requested by common farmers, far from any extra benefits.
And on top of that, the difficulty level was not easy.
In other words, the Mercenary Association essentially assigned the Red Fox Mercenary Group to handle an unpopular quest.
"Heh! Well... Originally mercenaries in the Elysium Empire inherited the form created for the purpose of vigilante groups in the Warring States period, but this is truly bitter. With this level of quest request fee, the residents here must have squeezed out all the money in their possession as a last resort."
Ivan beside Sophia sighed regretfully with his arms folded.
Ivan became a mercenary because he wanted to protect the village where he lived from monsters and thieves.
But in the end, he couldn't protect it.
Still, Ivan Igor was an indomitable man who wanted to prevent others from experiencing the same thing as him,
Having lost his hometown, he continued silently walking the path of a mercenary like that.
Thanks to giving his all and having talent, Ivan even entered a brass scale mercenary group.
But at some point he felt that the place he was in
Was moving away from the mercenary path he himself pursued.
The inevitable flow of the mercenary system that kept growing larger and larger,
Feeling skeptical about that, Ivan eventually left that brass scale mercenary group
And wielded his axe as a wandering mercenary for several years after that.
"In a chaotic world, people wield swords with their own purposes, so I don't think we can say anything about them focusing on their private interests."
Jeanne, who had been silently listening to her comrades' conversation, seemed to have made a final decision.
She continued speaking as captain in a low voice without wavering.
"The same goes for us. We just need to live the mercenary life we want. Looking at it that way, I think this quest clearly aligns with the path of the Red Fox Mercenary Group."
Jeanne decided to take on as a new quest for her Red Fox Mercenary Group
This quest that everyone had been reluctant to take because the additional benefits were not large compared to its difficulty level.
"Head maid, only my underwear is missing?"
Eugene returned home after collecting his greatsword armor.
While organizing the armor, he belatedly remembered the condom he received from Sophia.
So Eugene Schneider started searching through his laundry that had been moved to the laundry room to dispose of it,
But more than retrieving the condom, the situation of his underwear being missing caught his eye.
As a result, Eugene is in the process of asking the head maid aunt about the whereabouts of his underwear.
"I threw away dear brother's underwear separately. It was quite damaged."
Click, click, click...
At that moment, the voice of Elizabeth, the youngest daughter of the Orléans family, and the sound of her gentle footsteps were heard behind Eugene.
Swish!
"Really? It was damaged?"
Eugene turned his head towards where Elizabeth was approaching
And reacted with a puzzled expression.
'Was I so out of it then that I didn't notice?'
In his memory, his underwear didn't seem particularly damaged except for being soaked in sweat.
"Yes, dear brother. So I carefully and meticulously handled and disposed of it."
Smile...!
Looking at Eugene like that, Elizabeth answered with a subtle smile gently spreading across her beautiful lips.
