"!!!???"
Even though she was a secular nun who got kicked out of the convent for throwing drinking parties,
To suddenly reach into her breasts saying she had a solution at this crucial moment
Eugene's eyes widened in shock.
"Ta-da! If you regularly inhale this purifying holy water, your respiratory system will be able to sufficiently purify that murky smoke."
Then Sophia pulled out three small bottles from between her breasts.
"Sophia recently reached high-level nun status and has been practicing her purification abilities diligently. These bottles contain the results."
"Oh, I see?"
"Our Assault Captain, were you flustered by where I pulled out the holy water bottles from? Let me explain, this skill isn't quite complete yet, so I had to maintain a certain body temperature and divine power like this. Since my hands need to be free for battle, isn't this the most suitable place? Hohoho!"
"I-I see..."
High-level nuns can use purification divine magic in addition to healing.
They usually use it to create holy water themselves.
But since Sophia had only become a high-level nun a few months ago,
Her new purification divine magic was somewhat flawed in terms of completion.
So using her breasts was the next best solution to compensate for that.
"There are three holy water bottles. One will be used by Priscilla to find and eliminate the shaman goblin that's hiding somewhere casting spells. The other two will be used by myself, the Assault Captain, Thomas and Sophia as we enter. The sword soldiers will stay here on standby for any unexpected situations."
With the items secured, Jeanne immediately organized the goblin cave infiltration team.
For such a large cave maze, there's a high chance the shaman is hiding separately in a safe place.
Since the quest won't end until that one is caught too,
The expert-level elf archer Priscilla, who is suited for solo action,
Will form a two-track approach by infiltrating in a different direction to carry out an individual mission.
"The inside is much more spacious than I expected."
"They say goblin champions dig caves this large in scale. So even though we didn't see footprints, we were able to estimate that goblin champions existed."
Eventually the four main infiltration members entered the goblin cave.
Eugene, setting foot in a goblin cave for the first time in his life, was quite surprised by the vast interior space that didn't match the image of goblins.
Thomas explained that curiosity.
The size of typical goblin caves is dug to a height of 230-250cm to accommodate 165cm tall hobgoblins, and 175cm tall shaman goblins and goblin lords.
But 185cm tall goblin champions wield huge weapons, so it's common to dig over 3m 20cm high.
"There's a directional disruption totem. Judging by the amount of magic power emanating, this shaman is clearly no ordinary one."
Fwoosh...!
In the early sections of the cave, assassin Thomas took the lead
In dismantling the traps set by hobgoblins and regular goblins.
Then suddenly before the main infiltration team's eyes
A more complex tunnel structure unfolded,
And as if announcing the start of a maze, a stone tablet inscribed with bizarre text
Was embedded in the middle of several branching paths.
Sophia stood about two steps away from the stone tablet, reached out her hand slightly and activated her divine power.
She was scanning the magic power contained in the shaman goblin's totem.
"But a totem of this level can't disrupt me now that I've reached high-level nun status. Just follow right behind me everyone~"
Wiggle! Wiggle! Wiggle!
In the past, they would have had to painstakingly create magic totem nullification talismans to bring along.
But since high-level nuns have divine magic that counters mental attacks,
Sophia's body itself is now a natural nullification talisman.
With that confident butt wiggle, Sophia walked fearlessly towards the inner goblin cave maze.
"Wow, looks like we got here really fast?"
Thud!
After walking for about 10 minutes the maze ended,
And Eugene stopped with an impressed look, raising the corners of his mouth.
"Kieeee...!"
"Kueeee...!"
Swarm! Swarm! Swarm! Swarm!
"Looks like they sent out all the regular goblins to buy some time to gather magic power for spells."
In a passage about 5m wide,
Around forty regular goblins were spread out in battle formation wielding various crude weapons.
"Captain, I'll take the rear!"
Swish!
Thomas pulled out something that had been hidden under his cloak.
It was a crossbow.
Assassins are a kind of all-round class.
So since the current main infiltration team composition was overflowing with vanguards,
Thomas aimed to balance out the overall class combination.
Slash! Slash! Thud! Thud!!
With Eugene Schneider's group finishing battle preparations in perfect unison like that,
Their battle against numerous regular goblins
Inside the goblin cave finally began.
The vanguards were Jeanne and Sophia.
The two of them slaughtered the oncoming goblins while receiving ranged support from Thomas.
Fwip! Fwip!
At that moment, amidst the impact sounds and screams starting to overflow from the goblin side, the sound of arrows cutting through the air was heard.
Some goblins had climbed up small rocks and started firing crossbows.
Shaman goblins and goblin lords are quite intelligent.
So they can imitate human tools to a certain extent
And it's possible to brainwash regular goblins to make them.
Crossbows were also tools that fell within that realm,
So the highly capable shaman goblin here had even created a fair number of goblin crossbow soldiers.
"Not a chance, you bastards!"
Clang! Clang!
But Jeanne and Sophia easily deflected the incoming goblin arrows.
No matter how much they imitated, goblin weapons are extremely crude.
In other words, goblin crossbows fell far short of human ones,
And it would have been a miracle for the two vanguards with User level awakenings to be hit by them.
Thunk! Thunk!
"Gak!" "Gueeee!"
"Cut! Cut down those goblin archers! Cut!"
The reload time was long too.
Assassin Walker awakened Thomas never missed that timing,
And conversely fired counter crossbow arrows to put holes in all the enemy goblin archers' heads.
"....."
While his comrades were fighting so hard,
Eugene was standing in the middle between the vanguard and rear, just resting his hand on his greatsword hilt and staring blankly.
'That's right, I thought they'd attack like this.'
Swish!
Then he looked up slightly with a confident gaze.
Swoosh!! Swoosh!!
"Kieeee!!"
"Kueeee!!"
And in the direction Eugene looked up,
Five or six goblins were pouring down using ropes like Tarzan.
"I thought it was suspicious when the tunnel suddenly changed to a three-story structure!"
Whoosh!!!
The spot where many goblins were gathered suddenly widened drastically in width.
And it wasn't just the width,
The height had also increased enough for separate floors to exist.
So from Eugene's perspective, while the number of goblins currently identified
Clearly matched the total number of regular goblins the Red Fox Mercenary Group had calculated beforehand,
He judged it would be good to keep in mind the possibility of some deviation.
Based on that thought, Eugene Schneider imagined an aerial attack according to the terrain change,
That prediction was exactly right,
And Eugene swung his greatsword towards the vertically falling goblins.
Thud!! Thud!!
"Gak!!" "Kieeek!!"
Then a dull impact sound burst out,
If he split the goblins in half in midair,
Their blood would spray like a sprinkler and cause problems with his comrades' vision.
So Eugene struck the airborne goblin unit with the flat of his wide greatsword.
But even that was such a ferocious swing of the heavy hunk of metal like a mace that
The goblins' heads were smashed like pumpkins.
"Thomas, how's your stamina?"
"I can still manage, Captain."
After finishing off all the regular goblins like that, the four main infiltration members went further inside.
Mana awakened Walker level clearly increases physical abilities,
But only within human limits.
So Jeanne checked on Thomas's stamina situation.
"Alright, hang in there just a bit more. We just need to finish off those guys now."
After cleanly taking care of about 40 regular goblins and walking for about 1 minute,
A space the size of a small gymnasium appeared inside.
"Is this cave really made by goblins? Wasn't there already some level of space here?"
"Yeah... It's difficult even for humans, let alone goblins to dig out this much..."
Seeing that sight, Sophia and Thomas couldn't hide their surprise.
Even the 3-story high passage just before was honestly puzzling.
But the space being shown now seemed far beyond goblin capabilities even judging with maximum discretion.
'Hmm... Priscilla said elves lived here, could traces of those elves have remained until now?'
Eugene's eyes also fell into surprise.
But unlike Thomas and Sophia, his gaze soon showed signs of calming.
Because something had flashed through his mind.
It was none other than the story he had heard from Priscilla yesterday.
This seems to be a space where elves lived in ancient Prasia times.
"Everyone focus, now's not the time to worry about that."
But Jeanne, standing at the very front of the Red Fox Mercenary Group,
Called for attention in a wary voice.
"Gak! Kiek...!"
"Kueeee...!"
In that wide circular space
There were about ten hobgoblins, and
"Grrrrrr...!"
"Karrrrr...!"
Two goblin champions boasting enormous bodies were also positioned there.
"No way, those bastards' appearance..."
Thomas, who confirmed the situation at the front last due to being blocked by Eugene's huge body,
Was shocked upon witnessing the twelve higher-tier goblins.
"They're even wearing armor????"
The reason being, though shabby, both the hobgoblins and goblin champions were equipped with quite heavy-looking armor.
Especially the goblin champions wearing iron gauntlets and helmets
On parts that could efficiently nullify damage,
They were holding iron mace clubs in that state.
"The intelligence of the shaman goblin here is truly considerable. Should we think of this as also related to the recent increase in monster numbers, Captain?"
Sophia mentioned the shaman goblin.
Goblins carrying weapons and wearing clothes are certainly common.
So goblins wearing armor have been theoretically discussed plenty as well.
However, iron armor is even harder to obtain than wooden crossbows,
So the general opinion was that it lacked realism.
But the shaman goblin that had nested here for quite a long time
Had made that theoretical appearance a reality.
And
Fwoosh...! Flash...!
At that moment, both of the goblin champions' eyes glowed red.
It was because the shaman goblin's buff was starting to be applied.
"Even a considerable level of long-range buff, truly an amazing one."
Sophia couldn't help but be continuously surprised.
Since the shaman goblin wasn't mixed in with the heavyweight goblins right away,
She kept looking around searching for it.
Buffs are high-level techniques, so generally their effective range is short.
But for the buff spell to start even though Sophia's side hadn't discovered the shaman goblin,
The shaman goblin here
Is a high-level being with such an incredible effective range for spell abilities that it can cast buff spells while safely hiding its body.
"I'll face the two goblin champions and buy time. The other three of you eliminate the hobgoblins as fast as possible and come support me."
Recognizing the difficulty of the situation, Jeanne
Immediately instructed her comrades on countermeasures.
In a normal situation, they could immediately engage in an all-out battle,
But the main villain shaman goblin's abilities keep exceeding expectations.
So Jeanne wants to exercise caution.
"Captain, for that strategy I think it would be better if I buy time. In terms of durability and weapon defense area."
Then Eugene requested a role change.
While Eugene's general physical durability is much higher, Jeanne as a Sword User has superior ki, so their overall durability is similar.
However, there's a difference in armor - Jeanne focused on mobility so her defense is weakened,
While Eugene has relatively heavy armor since he has less technical mobility.
"I can buy enough time with my mana techniques. I might not know normally, but in the current situation I'll consider any further objections as insubordination, Eugene."
But Jeanne concluded she would mark the two goblin champions herself, considering all aspects.
Her resolute expression,
It contained her sense of responsibility that went beyond logic for bringing Eugene into the mercenary group.
While Eugene's words certainly had persuasive power,
She couldn't assign the most dangerous task to him who was carrying out his first quest.
'Geez, do I need to come out even if it's late?'
Unlike others, Eugene could read that expression,
So he fell into deep contemplation.
But at that moment
[Untranslatable Arabic-like text]
A bizarre sound echoed through that space.
"What kind of sound is this????"
It was truly a chilling and grating voice.
Thomas couldn't hide his bewilderment upon hearing that bizarre voice.
The bizarreness Thomas felt was clearly not an ordinary audible voice,
But a feeling of energy being carried and spreading.
So even though he couldn't understand it, Thomas fully sensed its ominousness.
"It's a debuff spell! To be able to use such high-level magic, this one must be a rare crimson shaman goblin that's counted among the top within goblins."
Secular priest Sophia immediately identified the identity of the bizarre voice.
Not a level that causes simple illusions like making one wander in a maze,
But magic that directly affects the opponent and imposes ability restrictions,
The spell unfolding now is that high-level advanced magic called a debuff spell.
