The disemboweling is also called Hara=Kiri. The beheading is considered a great favor, since it causes a quick death. Hara-Kiri is alone a very painful and slow death. That's why Katsamota said he considered it an "Honor to cut off his head." Just to clarify.

ok, had to look it up it is like Amyntas wrote. the beheading part if I remember the 1 episode of the Highlander series that had it is both for mercy and to prevent shame I guess crying out or something. I have read that Japans pilots did not use parachutes during ww2, for some of the same reasons.

the samurai killing themselves is called Seppecu, you saw it in hacksaw ridge the commanding officer of the japan forces.

I absolutely love this film!! I have it on dvd. I also have the soundtrack and listen to it a lot in the car while driving long distances. In my opinion this is Hans Zimmer's magnum opus as a composer. Love love love!! Beautiful film.
