Both Raylen and Karen are characters from the novel series the TV show is based on. But because the character was actually owned by a different network, they had to have her character "temporarily" married and give her the name "Goodall" instead of her maiden named Sisco. Still it's a fun way to do a nod to another badass marshal in the Leonardverse. She had her own tv show and movie adaptation done as well but got cancelled too soon.
