For short run TV series, I loved The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Caprica, and Jericho but all 3 end unceremoniously. The first season of Heroes is awesome (and there's no reason to watch the rest) Orphan Black has one of the best actresses I've ever seen, on par with Agents of Shield's Ada. You may want to consider single episodes of "self contained stories" series where there's not a running story. Love, Death & Robots is hit or miss but with a LOT of hits that hit SO good. Black Mirror is excellent for most episodes, but has a few mediocre ones.

Robocop if you've never seen it, it is satire at its finest, late 80's style. Dark City, what Roger Ebert said was not "a story so much as an experience, it is a triumph of art direction, set design, cinematography, special effects--and imagination." He really loved it the year it came out.

I recommend: Minority Report The Devil's Advocate Ran But most importantly, whatever you decide, can you PLEASE fix your audio. When it's just you, your sound levels are great; when we have the two of you, your sound is hard to hear and the Movie often gets muffled as well. I don't know what you'll need to do to fix it, but it truly does make some of your movie reactions almost impossible to hear (and thus enjoy).

I'd certainly vote for The Drop but the chance of that one winning a vote is basically zero :( Nevertheless, the guy who plays the Chechen gangster (Chovka?) is SO FUCKING GOOD in that movie. One of my favourite gangster performances of all time. I just watched it again last week and he definitely steals the movie for me... even though everybody in the film is great.

Resubmiting unused suggestions of mine; I know some people disagree on some of these but I think they'd make good reactions. Any of these appeal?: Clue (1985), a who's who of 80s comedy talent does a wacky murder whodunnit based on the board game Speed Racer (2008), the Wachowski siblings campy bright kinetic action packed fun adaptation of the children's anime? One of my favs. Contagion (2011), Steven Soderbergh's star studded tense thriller about a worldwide epidemic, which while a significantly worse plague ended up being prescient in certain ways Big Trouble in Little China (1986) teams Kurt Russell & director John Carpenter again (after The Thing & Escape from NY) in a campy self aware satirical action comedy that is one of my top 10 movies all time. Maverick (1994), an adventure/western/action/comedy adapting the 1957 show of the same name, about a slick, fast talking gambler and his misadventures attempting to acquire the entrance fee to a major poker tournament. Stars Mel Gibson, with Jodie Foster, Alfred Molina, and James Garner. A personal favorite from my youth. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007), throwing a curveball: a documentary. It's pretty funny, about some super strange real life characters. Talks about competitive arcade gaming, specifically a big fight over the world record for donkey kong. It's a strange tale of underdogs, villains, and absurdity.

Since 'The Thing' made a strong impression with you guys I would recommend another film from John Carpenter with Kurt Russell: Big Trouble in Little China. It's a fantasy action comedy that also inspired some of Mortal Kombat and is a fun watch.

For short tv I'm going back to Turn: Washington's Spies. From AMC in. 2014. 40 episodes (4 10ep seasons). Lots of double crossing, tough decisions, and espionage action during the American Revolution. Bingeable AF and short. Available on Netflix. Like Black Sails or Expanse, first season is the weakest then it gets nuts. Loosely based on real people and events. Wiki says: Turn: Washington's Spies (originally titled Turn and stylized as TURИ: Washington's Spies) is an American period drama television series based on Alexander Rose's book Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring (2007), a history of the Culper Ring. Season one has a 54% on rotten tomatoes but 2, 3, and 4 go 90%, 100%, 80%.

First I'd like to suggest "The Untouchables". It's not on your list so I guess you haven't seen it. It's an 80's classic with Kevin Costner, an oscar winning performance by the legendary Sean Connery - or also known as "The guy from Entrapment". Andy Garcia - and it's got Robert De Niro as Al Capone. I think this is one of those classics you just HAVE to see. And I hope you pick it. The Hunt for red october just got me this idea.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) - Excellent revenge story based on the classic novel. The Patriot (2000) - Mel Gibson revolutionary war action/drama. Also stars Heath Ledger (RIP), Jason Isaacs, and a bunch of other cool people. It isn't the most historically accurate thing I've ever seen but it's a fun watch. The Quick and the Dead (1995) - Sort-of-Western revenge story directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man) with an amazing cast - Sharon Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russel Crowe, and the amazing Gene Hackman. Not the BEST movie I've ever seen but an extremely fun watch. O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) - Coen Brothers ?comedy? starring George Clooney. Supposedly about a prison break in the 1930s but really a retelling of The Odyssey. It's impossible to really describe this movie but it is amazing and you must see it. Minority Report (2002) - Fun Spielberg/Tom Cruise action-thriller about the concept of futurecrime - arresting people for crimes before they commit them. I'm not a huge Cruise fan but this is worth seeing.

Here's my selection: *Election* -1999 Call it a spiritual successor to Ferris Bueller's day off. Starring Reese Wheatherspoon, and Matthew Broderick. It's dark comedy at its finest. *Contact* -1997 Sci fi starring Jodie Foster, Matthew Mcconaughey, Interstellar before Interstellar. *Groundhog Day* - How this is not on your watched list baffles me. One of Bill Murray's finest movie, if not his best. Timeless classic comedy. *Minority Report* Based on a novel, this is my favorite Spielberg movie by far. Led by Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell and supported by Neal McDonough, Max Von Sidow.. the premise is awesome, the writing is clean, the plot is cool and it's got an all star cast, what more do you want. *New World*-2013 Yep, still going to be plugging this movie. The best gangster movie KR has made. It's got an ensemble cast, an adaptation of a popular CN movie, it's Korea's version of The Departed. *Rounders* Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Turturro, poker, and even my childhood crush is in a cameo the hot Famke Janssen. If you like poker, this is a must watch. *Source Code* Jake Gyllenhall is leading this really interesting sci fi, I've yet to see a bad movie from this guy. *The Grandmaster* You saw "practical" fighting in the Raid, then you saw unrealistic wire fu from Crouching Tiger hidden Dragon. This is a hybrid of both. It's still beautiful Wire-Fu, but the martial arts depicted are actual martial arts from real life. The actor trained all year long to do the stunt work justice. Led by Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi, it's perhaps the most beautifully shot martial arts movie ever. If you do watch it, make sure you get the Chinese Edit (the longest version at 130 min). It's not just a matter of cutting stuff in the other version, they actually flipped some scenes around, it's a mess. *The Martian* - Surprised this wasn't already on your watched list as well. Based on a popular novel and starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain, it's a great adaptation of the novel. *Avatar* - Don't listen to the haters about how it's not an original story from a bunch of hypocrites. Everything in Hollywood is a remake/reboot of something. The themes are familiar but it's still a great movie, despite some cringy writing at times. Why? Because nobody on Earth can shoot an action movie like James mother@# Cameron. Also if this dude spends 200M, the movie feels like a 200M movie, some thing a lot of directors could learn from. It's not going to win an oscar any time soon, but it's fun and considering there's 3 more on the way, might as well see what the fuss is all about.
