I think Firefly is generally overrated by their fans, but what fanchise isn't? It's really good, not great, but the movie is top tier sci-fi if you've watched the show. I'd put it higher than all but two of the Star Trek movies. Here are some other Sci-fi series that are on par that I don't think you've seen in the order I think you'd like them: 1. Altered Carbon (Season 1) 2. The Orville 3. Falling Skies 4. Babylon 5 5. Star Trek Deep Space 9 You've already watched my favorites: Person of Interest, Fringe, and Lost.

So I guess you should watch the pilot and then you should rewatch this episode. Then it makes more sense 😂

This is a common issue with Firefly, I believe due to it originally being aired in the wrong order. Lots of reactors (or viewers in general, used to have issues recommending this show and my friends starting in the wrong place) get the wrong start, so it must me mislabelled in some place or another by airing order. It's a shame. Similar (but for different reasons) problem with Battlestar Galactica where people so often start with the first series episode, missing out the 2-part miniseries that precedes it, which really taints the first impression. :/

Oh no 😆😲 I was so confused, I thought 'wtf this isn' t the first episode' I own Firefly on Blu-ray and the episodes are in the correct order. I had no idea that the network switched episodes and aired the second one first. And after all these years they still haven't fixed this mess? wtf

So, downside: you started with episode 3 - there's a two-part pilot that comes before this and introduces you to the characters and the world and etc. Not an uncommon mistake - the two-part pilot is called Serenity (Part 1 and Part 2) and the movie that serves as a finale to the whole thing is ALSO called Serenity, so. Upside: You're getting the Authentic 2002 Experience -the network aired this episode first too when the show premiered! Unfortunately, without the pilot audiences then were just as confused as you probably are, and the show was cancelled. It wasn't until the DVD release that people could actually watch the show in order and it started to develop a following.

Maybe I missed it, but why did you start with 2nd episode? There is 2 part pilot that goes before this. Firefly is on the best shows out there, but you need character stories and introductions from Pilot to fully appreciable great tv.
