Survey 2022 "results"
🕑 Added 2022-12-09 19:06:25 +0000 UTCHey everyone, since we already had around 500 responses to the survey, it's enough information for me to share some data from it.
The initial questions were more to understand the "who is my audience".
Two interesting points on this, is that the average age is older and the "how long have you been my patreon" also leaned more towards "more than one year". Which is great, since it means more people are staying for the long run.
So, here's a sum up of the questions.
The other questions are mostly things that are interesting to me. There's a lot of great feedback, and here's some things to highlight.
- I made small changes on the "welcome post" (the one that's pinned at the top of my feed) with a small "FAQ" to make it clearer how patreon works, where to get the rewards and all that.
- Also, to alleviate some issues with MEGA zipping the files (keep in mind this is not an issue with MEGA specifically since all hosting services have that issue), I'll make a test on the next month to have all the JPG files (NSFW, SFW, WIP, Wallpaper Folders) zipped and only the PSD/video files to be download individually.
- I'll be making some small changes to the Gumroad structure to see a way to include the .psd files as well. But that will be done next year.
- While delays are never a good thing, sometimes "life happens" and I might loose days of work due to possible health issues, technical issues, things out of my control (power outtage etc).
The thing is, it's very hard to recover those days since the schedule is tight as it is, so if the month start 2-3 days late, odds are it will also finish 2-3 days late, which would cause a delay on the next month as well. Moving foward, to prevent situations where we have delays on the reward for more than one month, I'll simply cut one of the works that month or include a 4th "more simple" drawing (like the image I made of Iris years ago, the one where she has earbuds listening to music) and adjust the schedule so we don't have 3-4 months in a row of "late rewards".
Possible future changes
I'm always following up what other artists are doing in terms of what they offer/price range etc.
But whenever I see creators with a dozen tiers with things like "includes extra variants, includes random image from another tier" or segmenting the rewards in several "parts" I find it to be super confusing and hard to know what you'll get.
So I prefer to keep it simplified and do the pricing about the amount of works created on the month, the time it takes to make them, the quality of the works delivered etc.
Also, the vast majority of people like the current tier structure and think there's good value on them compared to what is offered elsewhere.
Things like psd/video files, those things are a "bonus", those files will be created regardless, so they are not increasing the price of the tier.
With that in mind, I'm planning those changes for next years.
- $5 tier: Include the video files, so this is the "default tier" to get everything from the month, so people that want the video files as well don't feel forced to go to the $10 tier.
- $10 tier: Instead of choosing +2 works from previous months, you'd be able to pick a full pack from previous months (with all it works included), so this would be the tier to the people who want to complete their collection from previous months. This way it would be faster for people to complete their collection and it's "easier to choose".
People often ask for higher tiers for "more stuff" but I honestly don't know what to include on those tiers. Comissions are off the table and physical goods on patreon are a nightmare to manage. And I honestly don't plan on having "more things" to manage on patreon.
So unless something really cool appears, we won't have a higher tier for the time being.
I know this is a long and text heavy post, but I think it's important to keep tabs with you guys and tell how people are feeling about the current structure.

It's because of my specific state of the collection. https://imgur.com/a/guK2FFI There are 6 packs that have more than 2 pics remaining, 15 that have only one, and the rest are exactly 2 and unaffected by the change. Since I have to get all 15 of the ones individually now, it takes longer than if it had continued to be 2 each. Gumroad with psds might very well be the solution.

Yeah, I do include this information "Rewards of previous months are not included" because since each artist does it's own thing, it's possible to be confused by how it works. I'm still going to optimize my gumroad a little in the next year so it's easier for people that want to complete their collection.

This is something I'm kepping in mind. The small change in the tier structure was something I've been wanting to do for quite some time. I wasn't 100% happy with keeping the videos only on the $10 tier, because even though there's not a huge amount of people that want the videos, I saw that not everyone that was on the $10 tier was even using the past rewards thing. So either they just wan't to make a bigger pledge to support more, or just wanted the videos and not the past rewards. I did consider the possibility of people who were picking specific rewards, or simply wanted specific ones from the past might be negatively affected by the change. I'll still thinking on the best way to solve this. But it will probably be on the gumroad, since I'll include the .psds there as well. Like bigger discount codes or something that makes it "equivalent", so that people that were using the previous system don't have the short end of it.

I was new and wasn't familiar with Patreon, I thought I'll get all the of the previous work until I realized I have to purchase past Patreon work through Gumroad. I appreciate the discount that you get as a membership and buying the art in Gumroad separately instead of having to buy the whole batch of the month.

Not sure how I feel about the changes to the 10$ tier, overall. This basically means two things, both good for new subscribers and inconvenient for some (I don't know how many) older subscribers. If the 5$ tier now includes the videos and the 10$ tier gets essentially two months worth of rewards, this means the 10$ tier is paying twice the amount for twice the content, which seems not only fair, but also preferable to me. I think it's better for newer subscribers since it's more intuitive, and that's what made me subscribe to you in the first place: your system is fair and your explanations are clear. It's a continuation of that and I love it! Not only that, it should also make your job easier in the beginning of the month, which is a win for everyone. However, the 10$ tier getting full packs instead of "picking and choosing" means older subscribers like me who got pretty much whatever pics they felt like getting on a given month will have to get duplicates now if they want to complete their collection, which lessens the value of the tier for them. Say for example I already got Black Cat and Morning from June 2019. Now if I want to get 085 as well, I still have to 5$ extra but I only technically get a third of the content for that. Now say I only miss 061 from July 2018 as well: in the old system, I could have just completed the two months in one go by saying "085 & 061, thank you!". Now, I'll need two months to do so, which is 10$ for just two images instead of the four images and videos I'd have gotten previously over two months for that amount. These are two actual examples from my collection, but there are many more. Now, as I said earlier, it's only mildly inconvenient for older subscribers and is only really inconvenient for older subscribers like me who were picking and choosing until now instead of going month by month. But it's making me reconsider staying in the 10$ tier. It's a shame because I don't wanna drop to the 5$ tier: I want the older pics and I feel like you deserve those monthly 10$. But as a long time sub to the highest tier, I also feel slightly ripped off by those changes, and I don't know what a good solution for that would be. Making a permanent or temporary 7.5$ tier that would be pretty much the old system of picking and choosing? That makes your job harder, I believe. Bigger discounts on already existing packs on Gumroad? I believe you already announced those in an earlier post, but I don't know if they're already in effect, and having to do maths every once in a while to figure out what the "best value" is for getting older works kinda defeats the purpose of Patreon. Anyways, this comment is getting way too long. Still loving your hard work and looking forward to December's rewards.

thank you! Unfortunately comissions would mean doing one less work on the month whenever a comission happens. Personally I'm not a big fan of doing fewer artworks unless it's necessary due to schedule issues or something specific happening that month,

Shame about commissions being off the table; the quality of your work is so good, people would love a commission from you. But I think I understand why it's off the table (don't have enough time for it given your current output and living life). No surprise that so many are satisfied, you're one of the best, Krys.

Unfortunately there's no way to include anything else on my workload. I'm already looking for ways to lower the "work outside of work" part of the process. I'd like to revisit older works if possible in the future, but something that I can simply choose 1 month and do it. Not an ongoing feature.

yeah, I always check what other artists are doing to make sure it's reasonable with what they are offering. Personally, whenever I want to subscribe to another artist and they have 12 tiers with a lot of variables in between, I get confused with what I'll get. And I think it can be very frustrating if you sign up thinking you'll receive A B C and you actually got A.2 B.5 and C.3. I think for literally any service, the 3 tier structure is the best way to go.

ideally I prefer if people request them month by month (on the "previous reward post"). But it's definitely not a problem if for some reason you didn't request a month, on the next one you say "hey, I didn't request on the previous month, can I get A B C D"

Nice change! I could probably go to $10 for a number of months to complete the collection. But I really appreciate you offering everything at the $5 tier. I don't want to name names, but I canceled my patronage of another artist, because you got some NSFW things at $3, another set at $5, and the whole thing at $10 I think it was. But you got the SFW versions of all at the base level. It was just super confusing and frustrating because of course the images you wanted were locked behind the higher tier.
