Important Note: The vault assumes you have already (or will) learn how to use it using the tutorials available at https://obsidianttrpgtutorials.com/. This is NOT an out of the box solution that just magically works. It's a DEMO of what can be achieved that expects you to tinker and tailor it to your own needs.
Note: Vault was designed for use on a PC, not on a mobile device. It may work but experience will differ depending on device. Chrome Books are known to struggle under the load of lots of plugins.
CREATE NEW VAULT
Download the *.zip file. Available at the bottom of this post.
Extract it somewhere on your PC.
From Obsidian. Use the Open Folder as Vault option.
Select the unzipped folder called 'ObsidianTTRPGVault'.
The vault will load into Obsidian and it will prompt you to enable Community Plugins.
Tip: If you don't get prompted to enable plugins, then you likely created the vault on the wrong folder. It must be created on the folder that contains the /.obsidian folder. It should look like this.
UPDATE EXISTING VAULT
The new templates are reliant on each other. By this I mean the Places notes will automatically check for people that live or work in that place. Thus updating an existing vault to use the template requires a few steps.
The following files have changed and would need to be copied into your vault.

Note: The ones with DV in the name mean they use Dataview. I am in the process of updating everything to support Bases with plans to release that once Bases is available to the public. If you are already an Insider then the vault is updated with some new Bases to explore. This is still a Work In Progress and as Bases is not released yet, it's possible that Obsidian will update it with another breaking change.
Folder structure under 2-World. If you copy all the sub-folders into 2-World is will update with any new ones.
/z_Templates/World Builder Templates
Copy this whole folder in. This is the actual new templates. The ones with BASES in the name are not linked to any of the buttons yet.
/.obsidian/plugins/obsidian-meta-bind-plugin/data.json
Contains the new button templates. This contains the Meta Bind Button Templates. If you have existing Meta Bind templates you need to carefully merge the two files using a Text Editor.
/.obsidian/snippets/Tab_Icons.css
/.obsidian/snippets/TabsInObsidian - MaxH.css
/.obsidian/snippets/TabsInObsidian - MaxH480.css
/.obsidian/snippets/SailKite - chassis_callouts.css

These new CSS files are used by the new templates. You need to add these to your:
<vault>/.obsidian/snippets/<copy here>
Then enable them under Obsidian > Settings > Appearance > CSS Snippets.
Tip: There is a button here that opens the Snippets folder. Make's it much easier to find!
GETTING STARTED
Once you have your vault up and running you can use the new Templates from the Home screen. Simply press the + button to open it.
Templates are designed to be commenced in a specific order.
Start with a Region. This is a larger body of land where lots of other things exist. This might be a government state or a forest.
Within the Region you can make a Hub which is a place where people gather. A hub contains lots of other places. Maybe a city or town.
Within the Hub you can make Places. This might be someone's home or maybe an inn. The Hub has automatic categorisation for different type of places.
Within the Places you can make People. Maybe they live or work there. Or maybe it's just where the party encounter them.
In this example. The City of Screams is on the Island of Skulls. Within the city is a Commerce place called the Shop of Stuff. The NPCs tab shows People that live and work within the city.

Upgrade - Choice fields have been moved to Meta Bind Settings (Button Templates). This will allow changes to flow through existing templates.
Upgrade - Comments added to templates to help people understand how they work.
Removed - Some of the original bases templates were no longer functioning due to changes made through the development period. Have removed for now. Will update upon release.
Change - Some of the existing templates have been modified to enable them to function with the new templates. Point of Interest for example can now be used at a Star System level so it can be used to make POIs in space.
Added - Test notes for each type of template so users can see how they work together. Delete them once you no longer need them.
Fixed - Folder Notes Issue resolved by enabling the Folder Arrows.
Fixed - Templater Issue has been resolved by the Templater developer. Plugin updated to the resolved version.
Updated - All community plugins and themes.
24/06/2025 - Minor
Updated the character sheet template to use new changes made to the DND UI Toolkit plugin. Plugin not links to properties.
Fixed bug in character sheet template where value was pointing to wrong property.

Awesome foundation to learn from, thank you. Quick suggestion on the filename date, use year month day as that will sort it numerically with the latest version always at the bottom in Explorer.

Hi, Thanks for this vault. I downloaded it and noticed one of the folders is a hidden .git folder. I think it is not needed. I deleted it and everything still seems to work. It saves almost 1.2gb of the file. Can you confirm it is indeed not needed?

What are you running it on? Ive not come across this issue before. I would assume its something to do with the device and not the vault.

Make sure you have created the vault on the right folder. The .obsidian folder must be in the root folder of your vault.

I just installed Obsidian and purchased the vault, but we I open it, there is aton of "Button ID not Found " red text. is there a way to fix this issue?

I downloaded the Patreon Vault but when it is opened and I enable the community plugins the vault screen becomes completely black and I can no longer interact with the vault, I got it wrong something? How can I solve this problem ?

Check in Settings > Community Plugins > Meta Bind under the Input Templates. The plugin has limited support. I would just make a list of items and have a checkbox next to them for tracking attunement.

Hey Josh, i am using the vault to remake my character sheet for dnd 24 and im missing the race option for warforged and cannot find anything pointing the where the races are stored or where i can add one from the CLI. also is there the ability to add an equipment section that has checkboxes of what is eqquiped/attuned?

Honestly I don't know how well this will work on such a small screen. Technically, it should work. But how it looks; that would be a completely different thing. You would need to find a way to get the vault onto your phone and extracted and create the vault from that location. The process will be different for different phones.

🤔 I don't think I have ever considered making a note for a sea or an ocean. I would use the Continent perhaps in that it sits under the Planet.

Hi Josh et al! Where are people putting seas & oceans? And I need to manually add in my world's dieties - should they still go under mechanics even if they are not being imported via CLI?

Just go into source mode on that note. This section controls the links. That requires the ITS Theme Embedded Font CSS. Which should already be enabled in the vault. Settings > Appearance > CSS Snippets > S - Encoded Fonts > Enable The latest version of the css can be found here. https://publish.obsidian.md/slrvb-docs/ITS+Theme/ITS+Theme#Guide

how do i edit the table view on the home page the one with Island of screams, Journey Board ect? i want to change them to somthing else like a Timeline but cant seem to see how to do that

Hello! Im new here and was wondering if its worth diving into this one or if i should wait for the Bases version to come out. Is there an estimated time for bases to release? If its months away maybe ill just get started with this release.

Is there something else I need to do to get the fonts to load? Specifically the headers. I don’t see the cool dnd-style fonts that are visible in your video tutorials.

There are certain folders in the vault that I can't seem to open unless I search for something that I know is inside it. How do I unlock these? Or is this a bug? It is freshly downloaded from here and I've added some books in through the CLI and I can't open the cli folder or the example parties folders.

Hey Josh. I'm using your new Patreon vault and I've run into an issue with the "create new player " template. The race default is Half-Orc, but when I configure it to a different race it does not change. I also don't see class anywhere yet I can select one in the configure. thanks

Is it possible just to copy notes and pictures from my current vault into the revised vault without breaking links? I tried that before and it appears I now have a bunch of broken links from pictures and notes. I don't want to do that again.

Hey Joshua, enjoying the notebook, but I am noticing that whenever I use a template, it freezes my obsidian for a while, sometimes until i force close it. Is that a common issue, and is there a fix you know of?
