New Video Coming This Weekend! | The Friday(ish) Update

What have I been up to this week?
It’s release week!
We’ve got a new video lined up to be released this Sunday: a fun little exploration of the changing face of YouTube through the recent trend of YouTubers holding microphones.
That means that this week has largely consisted of myself and Georgia sending edit drafts back and forth as we try to make it look as good as possible.
As I mentioned in a previous edition of the Friday Update, we filmed this video on-location in a pretty cool local lecture theatre.
This meant the “main” a-roll shots (the ones in which I’m talking) look pretty cool. But it also set the bar high for any motion graphic sections!
I’m writing this on Friday and it’s very likely going to continue to be a bit of a white-knuckle ride into Sunday as we try to make sure it looks as beautiful as it can be.
But I can’t wait to share it with you!
And outside of work?
Things are beginning to look pretty Christmas-sy round here!
Usually, my wife and I are really slow to put our decorations up. Life is pretty busy usually and so we then end up quickly scrambling to put them up a week or so before the big day.
This particularly annoys our neighbour for Christmas is the single most important event of the year and who puts her decorations up in mid November!
Somehow, we found the time to get them up a little earlier this year and so Christmas is maybe feeling like a bit more of an event.
Earlier this week, I even made it along to the carol service at my Mum’s church which was nice; I always love a good singalong!
And, once the video is out, I might be able to take a bit of a break before the new year!
What have I been reading/watching/listening to?
It’s been a while since I’ve recommended a YouTube video here, so let’s do that!
Towards the end of last week, Alexander Avila put out his latest video: This Video Isn’t Just About Taylor Swift. It’s About You.
I’ve been a fan of Avila’s for a little while now. He’s had an amazing run of excellent videos lately and it’s always so exciting to see a creator just knocking it out the park!
As a bit of a Taylor Swift fan myself, it’s a really interesting look at the changing music and cultural significance of Swift and will give you lots of food for thought!

Yeah, he's really great. I love the "chairs" bit at the very beginning of one of his videos (I can't remember exactly which off the top of my head!). Just super fun, creative stuff.
