It must have been an interesting conversation on earth - who was going to be offered up as these aliens' pets. But I witnessed none of it. I spent the week in the nursery with Laffy, Maffy, and occasionally Daddy or one of his brothers who had joined us on Daddy's campaign. Well, sort of a campaign. There were no battles; that had all been disabled. I got to see it one day when Daddy took me to the bridge.
"See there?" he said, pointing to the screen, which zoomed in on a range of missile silos in Russia. "They just released three hundred warheads, and now they're wondering why they won't launch."
The view zoomed in to show a landscape pockmarked with yawning holes. Nothing happened. Daddy chuckled.
"Those little rascals want to hurt our ships, but they're not going to do it. We've messed with their magnetic fields, scrambled their neutrons, and disabled all their toys. Little ones don't need dangerous toys like that anyway. We'll make sure that all those naughty little ones come back with us. We want to leave your planet a safer place than when we came, yeah?"
I was stunned. I knew that earth was being taken over, but I couldn't argue with Daddy's logic. The earth would be better without all those naughty toys. There were much better long shaft-shaped toys that could be played with.
"Do you think they will offer enough people, Daddy?"
Daddy smiled, and rubbed his chin. "From what we've seen, they are sure trying. We've told them where to go, and they're filling up the ships we've already placed down there. We've caught a few naughty ones trying to sneak in weapons and the like, but they are all pacified quickly. No one has been hurt."
"A bloodless coup," I muttered to myself.
"And who taught you big words like that, little one?" asked Daddy, picking up my pacifier. I spent the rest of the day muted and being bounced on Daddy's knee, my diaper squishing as he spoke logistics with his bretheren. He didn't even bother to turn off my translator. He just spoke with them and bounced me, stopping after a while to lay me down and change me right there on the table in front of his brothers.
Beringer and Lissenger, his badger and skunk brothers, were not annoyed at this interruption in the slightest. In fact, they leanend forward on the table and watched, and Daddy grinned deviously at them.
"Oh? Do you want to help the little pet get changed?"
"Do I?" asked Beringer, blushing. "W-well..."
"Oh, go on," said Lissenger. "You know you want to. Stop playing tough and help the little tyke out."
Beringer shuffled forward and rolled his eyes. "Oh, well, if you insist, I guess I could help out..."
"Oh, you're great at it. We've all seen you," said Lissenger. Daddy was holding his tongue out of respect, I was sure, but he couldn't stop himself from grinning as Beringer puffed his chest up.
"I am pretty good, aren't I?" he said, smiling down at me. He always seemed so gruff and tough except when it came to me. Whenever he dealt with me, his expression was softer, his hands big and gentle and warm. I knew he could snap me in two easily if he wanted to, but he seemed much more content to just lay me down, open my diaper, and wipe me clean as I whimpered lightly and squirmed. But I didn't squirm much now. I was used to being changed. And besides, all of these big creatures had such a relaxing touch.
"I suppose you'll have one of your own soon too, now won't you?" asked Daddy, as Berenger smiled dreamily down at me.
"Huh? Oh... yeah, sure. Maybe. I don't know." he said, shrugging, and getting back to the task at hand, smoothing out the diaper over my belly as he prepared a secure wrapping around my waist for the tapes to be secured to.
"Of course he will," said Lissenger. "He loves caring for the little one as much as you do!"
"I am fine with one, thank you," said Berenger. "I'm a very busy man, you know."
"Only because you drink too much and train too much," laughed Berenger.
"W-well... maybe if one catches my eye..."
Sure enough, Berenger soon showed up a few days later with a big touch looking man in a bigger, tougher diaper. The man was red head to toe, as Berenger carried him into the nursery. "Play nice now," he said softly in the man's ear. "You can be yourself here. And I know you'll be a good boy for Daddy, won't you?"
The man nodded, and sucked his thumb as Daddy placed him down on the floor with me.
"I've brought you a playmate, little one. He likes to be little just like you! He's quite the combatant too! It was fun to watch him try to fight, so I knew I just had to rescue him before he went and hurt himself. Isn't that right, schnookums?"
"Yeth, Daddy," he grumbled around his thumb. His deep voice was a contrast to the adorable diaper he was wearing and the green onesie that did little to hide it. Daddy ruffled his headfur and sat there, smiling. The man and I looked at each other, and a few awkward moments passed. Clearly Berenger wanted us to play, so reluctantly, we spoke.
"Uh... hi," I said, somewhat intimidated by the huge man, despite his babyish attire. "I'm, uh... spot..." I said, almost letting slip my real - or rather, my old real name.
"Yeah," he said, pulling his thumb out of his mouth and chuckling. "I know who you are. Everyone knows who you are."
"Oh," I said, feeling a deep sense of shame. "They must really hate me down on Earth, huh? Blame me for all this happening, I bet..."
"Blame you?" asked the man, laughing again. "Not in the least. I think most people felt sorry for you, the ones who weren't jealous of you, of course. That poor sap that got taken by an alien and turned into, well..." He looked down at himself and back up at me.
"J-jealous?" I asked, taken aback. "W-well, I guess that's better than hating me... But were people really that open about it?" I knew I would never have told anyone my true feelings about being babied, if I weren't forced to make it so painfully obvious.
"Hell," said the man. "Not much reason to hide who you are when the world's about to end. The world as we knew it, at least."
I was stunned. I couldn't imagine what the scene on earth must have been like for the past several days since Daddy made his announcement with me on his lap. I didn't really want to, so I didn't ask any more.
"Name's Barry by the way," said the man, sticking out his mitted hand. "I mean, uh...." he looked back up to his new Daddy. "Schnookums..." he blushed. It was a pet name. We both knew that, but I took his hand as if it were a completely normal name. It was only decent to do that.
"Nice to meet you Schnookums. I hope you like your new life."
"Beats my old one," he said, looking down at his puffy diaper.
"What was that?" I asked.
"Special ops..."
"And the only special ops he'll be doing now is in his diaper. Isn't that right, Schnookums?"
"Yeth, Daddy," said the man, sticking his thumb back in his mouth and smiling sheepishly. I looked down and my mouth fell open as his diaper expanded and yellowed in front of my eyes. A big flood for a big baby. Fudge. What a time to start tenting in my diaper.
