The day of the Grand Opening was finally upon us and excitement was in the air, more like dread in my case. I stayed with Shelley most of the day while Tank and the others ran to and fro making all the necessary arrangements for the night to go off without a hitch.
"What do you think it'll be like?" I asked.
"Well, I don't know, kiddo," said Shelley. "I'm just a sophomore, and I was never really part of that crowd. But I bet there will be some drinking. Maybe costumes. A hollywood style volcano. You know, like in the movies."
"That would be something," I said, laughing and shaking my head. "You don't think that kind of thing ever happens in real life... er... d-do you?"
"I honestly don't know," she said, shrugging. "C.A.B.S. certainly has the budget for it."
"Yeah, what's with that?" I asked. "I knew daycare was expensive, but they can't be making that much money from room and board fees..."
Shelley laughed and shook her head. "No, no. They have government contracts... but hold up. Aren't those some pretty advanced questions to be asking for a baby? Do you need help feeling little?"
"Aw, geez, Shelley," I said, blushing and covering my face. "Don't make me..."
"I think he does! Somebody needs help feeling liiiiitle!"
I instantly felt myself shrink into an itty bitty baby, at least that's how I felt as she talked me down into what C.A.B.S. folk called 'little space'. Everything was a bit more colorful. Simpler. And we no longer had any deep, thought provoking, or esoteric conversations.
I hugged theo... played with some toy keys, sucked on my baba and wet my diaper. All good things that I truly enjoyed. But little by little, I was allowed to come back out of little space, and I was aware that Shelley was preparing us to leave.
"Huh? Where are we going? What time is it?"
"Well, welcome back, big boy," said Shelley, teasingly. "You almost missed the whole day! It's time to go to the grand opening!"
"Already?" I asked, practically groaning.
"Yes, already. Let's go. Up and into the stroller, buddy boy."
"Alright, alright," I said. "I'm comin'."
Shelley gave me a crinkly smack on the bum for being slow and I quickly plopped my butt on the seat of the stroller where she couldn't reach it.
"Why does everyone always wanna smack my bum?" I asked, blushing fiercely.
"Because it's cute, that's why," she answered, matter of factly. Oh of course. Cute. Now it all made sense. Not. I decided to keep my annoyance to myself, knowing full well it had more to do with my nervousness than anything.
When we got there, we knew we had gotten there. We knew half a mile away from the floodlights pointed up at the sky and getting closer, things only got noisier and more festive. It was like a Hollywood event, or something out of the Great Gatsby, with the university's finest on full display. And there I was walking right in past all of the dressed up people in my baby outfit.
Everyone who was anyone was there. I recognized people from the varsity teams, C.A.B.S. staff, and of course all my friends, fans, and dubious onlookers all milling about in front of the big building, where a big ribbon was waiting to be cut. The lookie-loos were easy to spot because they crowded me to greet me or stick a camera in my face depending on their intentions.
A few of the Alpha Beta brothers had to intervene to rescue me from the more aggressive paparazzo types, and some led them off toward some tables set off to the side of the entrance. That's when I noticed that the event was garnering quite a few recruits. Whether by hook or by crook, a line of young applicants had formed at the recruitment table, and I guessed more than a few of them would end up in diapers by the end of the week. From what I gathered, A.B.D.L. was the top fraternity on campus thanks to its close ties with C.A.B.S., and those that didn't make the cut ended up involved in quite a different way, though I'm sure that's what some of them were aiming for in the first place.
I spotted some familiar faces almost immediately. There was Dr. Windelmann with a muscular rubberpup on all fours at the end of his leash. A thick diaper was prominently on display over his Rubber and it was quite yellow.
"Oh! Vat haff ve here? The little mauschen has arrived! So gut to see you, little von. Und nice to meet you Shelly. I loved the presentation you put on for the babysitter's club."
He transferred the leash to his free hand and shook hands with Shelly, who looked slightly taken aback to see a human pup in full rubber out in the open like that.
"Oh, this is mein pet, Spritzer. Say hello, Spritzer!"
The pup let out two barks and waggled his butt to wag the rubber tail coming out of the back of his suit.
"He's was one of the first to go through our reform program. The poor pet vas so misguided at first, bullying little ones like Jimmy here, but ve showed him a better vay, isn't zat right, my little liebchen?"
The pup barked and wagged his butt, whining a bit as the good doctor bent down and gave his diaper a few pats. I wondered just how willing he was when he started the program, but he looked happy enough if a little frustrated. With his lack of free hands. [hands in mitts]. I didn't really care, though. All I wanted to know was where was Tank.
"Oh, Tank? He's been running around everywhere managing logistics," said Jason, when we bumped into him. "He's... oh! He's right there!" I followed the direction of Jason's finger and then I saw him. I began to move toward him, opening my mouth to call out, but I stopped.
Tank was hard to miss there in the midst of things. With his size and the confidence of how he moved there at the ABDL house, he was a commanding presence, directing the C.A.B.S. members, catering staff, guests, and others like second nature. It was a side of him I had only caught glimpses of so far, and it made me realize that there really was a lot more to this man than I ever knew. I didn't know whether to be impressed or frightened, but he was on my side, I hoped, so I settled on impressed.
Then, Tank spottetd me, and he delegated the role of manager to David, who looked like he was about to crap his pants.
"It'll just be a moment. I've gotta see my baby boy!"
In a flash, Tank had me in his arms and was hugging me tight.
"Did you miss me baby boy?" he asked. I nodded vigorously. I really had.
"He's been using a lot of big boy words," said Shelley, arching an eyebrow. "I had to help him remember to be little." I shrank inside myself feeling littler instantly as she said that. Tank just looked down at me and smiled.
"Is that so? You know better, baby boy. You're just a baby. Don't forget that."
Of course he was both putting on a show for anyone who might be watching but also clearly warning me as he looked me in the eye when he said it. I had to remember the plan. Baby brain. Convince Dr. S. he's won completely. Even though I had a hard time convincing myself he hadn't.
"Be a good boy in there, and remember about the birds and the bees," he said, patting my head. I might have found myself sucking my thumb already, but I was still aware enough to blush heavily at the insinuation that I'd be doing anything naughty at such a public venue.
With a quick peck on the lips from Daddy, I was wheeled into the big house. People were milling about in the spacious living area, a nice fire already going in the fireplace. A stag head above the mantel, an elegant pool table, wood floors, and a raucous game of beer pong underway amidst tufted leather couches and shelves of leather-bound books that I doubted anyone there would read anytime soon. So this was going to be my home for the next four years. It all looked very nice, but I wondered about the money that built it.
"Oh, hey, Shelley! Over here!" said a girl I recognized from the babysitter's club.
"Alright, little guy," said Shelley, "let's go say hi!"
I was then introduced to a series of people I didn't know, though introduced is a nice way of putting it. Paraded around was more like it. And I was getting a lot of attention as I was paraded. At first Shelley was watching over me, but pretty soon with all the people and all the distractions, I ended up being passed from hands to hands, and somehow ended up with a group of friendly looking guys. One of them had a backward baseball cap with blonde hair sticking through the opening, and he slouched in one of the couches with his legs open wide.
"Hey, cutie! Can't wait to babysit ya! What do you say about sitting in my lap and getting some rubbies? It's my specialty. Heheh."
I looked at him and shook my head. "No thanks."
"Aww well, it was worth a shot."
"Ignore Ace, he thinks he's cooler than he is. How about you come hang out with me? I'm Biff and I have a deluxe suite upstairs. Super comfy and perfect for snuggles."
"Uh, well..." I shifted from foot to foot. Snuggles sounded nice, but I would really have preferred them from Tank. Luckily I was saved from having to work out a polite way to say that by yet another suitor.
"Hey cutie, do you vape?" asked a stoned looking guy in a beanie. He held a vape thing in my face and I looked up at him, confused.
"Bro, don't give the baby that!"
"Come on, dude, it'll be hilarious!"
"I'll take that," said Tank, grabbing the vape out of the guy's hand. "Not for babies. And no, you're not getting it back."
"Aw man," said the dude, looking disappointed.
"I think the little one has had a busy day. Tell you what, if he wants to 'snuggle' with any of you, he'll let you know. Meanwhile, I call dibs on this little cutie."
"Hey, that's not f-"
One look from Tank and I could visibly see Ace shoving the words back into his mouth. The other guys quickly cleared out, walking away and/or apologizing profusely, which made me blush but also felt pretty good if I'm to be honest.
"Geez, Papa Bear," said a familiar voice that shot icicles down my spine. It was Billy, and he had his hand on Tank's shoulder.
Tank blushed slightly and said, "I, er, I just didn't want the little guy getting overwhelmed is all."
"You've got it bad, Tank, my man. Don't go crushin' on the diaper dweeb. He's fair game in this house and he's gonna be so used up by the time-"
"You shut your mouth," said Tank, snarling.
Billy held up his hands and laughed. "Hey, hey! Just kidding. When did you become such a mom? Jimmy gets it, right Jimmy?"
I decided to just play dumb and stare at him blankly. There was no way I was going to let him get a rise out of me and ruin our plan.
"Hey you're supposed to be doing outreach aren't you?"
"Yeah," said Billy, "but I put one of the grunts on it. No way I'm going to miss out on this awesome party doing something lame like signups. And aren't you supposed to be managing logistics? Pretty sure I saw your butt buddy Dave out there trying not to crap himself."
"He's not the ones in drynites right now," said Tank quietly.
"What did you say?" ask Billy, balling up his fists.
"Boys, boys," said an even scarier voice. It was Doctor S. He clapped several times to get their attention, not that he needed to. His voice was enough to get anyone's attention who was smart enough to know what was what. "There's no need to fight. This is a celebration after all."
We all looked around and saw the whole room was watching us. The two guys took a step back, literally, as the Doc took center stage. Billy in particular looked like he was going to piss his pull-ups, being on thin ice with the doctor as it was.
"Are we done here? Good. Then it's time to get started. Everyone, welcome to the grand opening of the Alpha Beta Delta Lambda house!"
