I like the dynamic between the mother and son in this. There's good conflict set up

No, it's not really shapeshifting like morphing. I'd say it's more like Loki's shifting, where it's still him behind the 'mask.' It's a subtle difference that will become more apparent as the story progresses. If he could truly change himself, he wouldn't be fat anymore. What else can he do? We will see.
