I froze.
My six tentacles hovered behind me, twitching in quiet disbelief. Like they didn’t know what to do.
Like I didn’t know what to do.
I looked down.
Her face was flushed red, cheeks hotter than they had any right to be. Her fingers trembled faintly against my shoulder as if she couldn’t tell whether she wanted to push me away or cling tighter.
The Thread of Fate glowed faintly between us, but its hum felt… different now. Not urgent. Not dangerous. More like a heartbeat. One we shared.
Yeah.
This was the perfect time to tease her.
And yet…
I didn’t.
“Hey,” I murmured instead, brow furrowing. “What’s wrong with you? You’re not this weak.”
She didn’t respond right away. Just breathed—shaky, hot, and soft against my collarbone.
“I feel weird,” she whispered again.
I snorted. “You are weird. You’ve always been weird. That’s not new.”
She shook her head slowly, golden strands of her hair tickling my jaw.
“No… seriously weird,” she said. “Like… I feel something I shouldn’t feel.”
I blinked.
My arms tightened around her, unconsciously pulling her a little closer. My voice dropped, quiet and uncertain. “Like what?”
She didn’t answer right away. Her hand slid up slightly, palm pressing flat against my chest. Right where my core throbbed—where it shouldn’t be that sensitive.
Instead of answering, she whispered, “…You don’t feel it?”
I hesitated.
Did I?
I was about to say no. About to say I was fine, just disoriented. But then I paused.
“…Dizzy?” I said, trying to brush it off. “Yeah, a bit. This place is weird. That smell’s messing with me. It’s like… being locked in a perfume-making room with no exits.”
She was quiet.
I wasn’t.
“…And,” I continued, my voice trailing off. “I mean…”
Shit.
No.
I did feel something.
My core— It was pulsing. Faster than it should. Like I’d just come out of a fight and still had adrenaline screaming through my veins. But it wasn’t just adrenaline.
It was something else.
Expectation.
Tension.
…Hunger?
No. No way.
I wasn’t…
Horny?
My mind stalled.
‘Huh?’
I couldn’t be horny.
Right?
I mean, I’d been throwing firestorms and rage tantrums for the last thirty minutes. That’s not exactly mood-setting behavior for arousal. And I was in my true form. Full wrath-core demon mode. Giant tentacles. Blades out. Voice like a rolling earthquake. Not exactly the sexy version of me.
Right?
And yet…
My core pulsed again.
A slow, hot throb—deep in the center of my chest, like dark lava glowing behind obsidian glass. It shimmered faintly, pulsing a soft purple light beneath my armor.
It was supposed to be protected.
Unreachable. Shielded.
Yet somehow… I could feel her breath on it.
Shit.
Her arms wrapped around me tighter—suddenly.
Desperately.
Not in the usual “I’ll stab you if you enjoy this too much” Puriel way.
This was different.
She clung to me like I was the only thing holding her together. Like her body was melting and I was the anchor she couldn’t let go of.
“Puriel…” I breathed.
No answer.
Just heat.
My skin felt too aware. Her body—holy energy and divine heat—was pressed against mine, and I could feel the way her heartbeat stuttered against me. The way her breath caught like she was barely holding herself back. The cave was still cold. The scent still hung in the air. But suddenly, it was like the space between us was the hottest place in existence.
“…This is the first time,” I muttered, voice dropping to a gravelly whisper. “First time I’ve felt like this in this form.”
My tentacles flickered behind me, uneasy. Not dangerous, just confused.
My core… It glowed again.
The purple light leaked out in pulses, seeping through the cracks in my chest armor like veins of molten magic. I didn’t even realize I was panting now, breaths shallow and heavy.
The air was thick. Tasting of sweet nectar, laced with old memory and desire.
My claws clenched at her back—not to hurt. Just to hold on.
“Something’s wrong,” I whispered.
“Yeah…” she whispered back.
Her voice cracked.
She wasn’t pulling away.
She was leaning in.
And I could feel her core now too. The divine spark that pulsed at the center of her being, usually so guarded—now flickering wildly, like a candle caught in wind.
Our threads shimmered again.
Not just light and shadow now.
Color bled between them. A strange aurora of gold and violet dancing between our wrists.
Her head tilted back slightly.
Eyes meeting mine.
Wide. Vulnerable. Still fogged.
“I don’t want to feel like this,” she said quietly.
“I don’t think we have a choice,” I replied, jaw tight. “This cave… this place... it’s doing something to us.”
“We should fight it,” she whispered.
“Yeah…” I said, but didn’t move.
Didn’t pull away.
Didn’t even try.
Because every nerve in my body was on fire now.
Not pain. Not fury.
But that other kind of fire. The kind I thought I didn’t feel in this form. The kind I thought I’d left behind with my humanity.
But now?
Now I felt everything.
Her warmth. Her breath. Her heartbeat.
The scent that clung to her skin like it belonged there.
The way her fingers curled against my back like she didn’t want to let go.
The faint tremble in her thighs against mine.
The look in her eyes—fear, confusion, desire, and something she wasn’t ready to say out loud.
And hell damn me, but I wanted to kiss her.
Not just because of the cave. Not just because of the magic.
Because of her.
Because even when we were enemies, I couldn’t stop watching her. Couldn’t stop admiring her fire. Couldn’t stop wondering what it would be like to hold her without blood on our hands.
But now wasn’t the time.
Yet… she made the first move.
She kissed me.
No, not a soft, hesitant brush of the lips like some awkward teenager trying to test the waters.
It was a real kiss.
The kind that said... 'screw the rules, screw the logic, I want this.'

Finally some permanent progress between these 2, i hope. The repetition was getting tiresome. 👌
