I studied her a moment longer. That answer—“no”—it shouldn’t have irked me. But it did. Not in an angry way. Not even ego. It was something else. Something deeper.
She didn’t see me that way.
That’s when it hit me. She didn’t fear me. Not because I wasn’t powerful, but because she never really saw me as something to be afraid of. Even after everything.
Fine.
Then maybe it was time I showed her a glimpse of why I was feared. Why people didn’t just bow to me—they knelt. Why even among demons, my name carried weight.
I straightened, letting more of my aura seep out—just enough to make the shadows stretch a little, the light in the room dim just subtly, like a pressure drop before a storm. My wings didn’t unfurl, my horns didn’t grow—but my stance changed. My presence changed. Controlled dominance, coiled energy, raw and ancient.
Tiffany’s eyes widened just slightly. Her posture stiffened again. She noticed.
I walked toward her again—slow, steady. She didn’t move away, but I could tell her heart rate had picked up. The room had gone quiet, thick with tension.
She opened her mouth to say something, but I didn’t let her.
Instead, I stopped just in front of her and leaned in slightly. My voice was low, commanding—but still soft. “Still think I’m not the incubus you imagined?”
She didn’t answer immediately. Her breath hitched. Her lips parted just barely.
And then she stepped forward.
Bold. Surprising. Her hands came up, fingers curling against my chest. Her eyes locked on mine. “Prove it,” she whispered.
I didn’t even blink. “You sure?”
Her lips brushed mine, clumsy and quick—but soft. Inexperienced. It was a kiss, but one that ended almost as soon as it began.
I held still, watching her face. The way her cheeks flushed. The way her breath trembled slightly as she took a half step back, embarrassed.
I tilted my head. “That was cute.”
She groaned softly, covering her face with one hand. “Ugh. That was bad, wasn’t it?”
“It wasn’t bad,” I said gently, reaching for her hand and pulling it away from her face. “But it needs a little work.”
She looked up, her voice small. “You’re going to make fun of me, aren’t you?”
“No,” I said, serious again. “I’m going to teach you.”
I wrapped an arm around her waist, guiding her in closer. My hand came to rest lightly under her jaw, tilting her head slightly as I leaned in again. “Relax. Let go of your hesitation. Just feel.”
Her lashes fluttered, lips parting slightly. “You’re really doing this?”
“I’ve got the green light, right?” I murmured.
She nodded, barely.
Then I kissed her—slow and firm, guiding her lips with mine. My touch was gentle, but assured. I could feel her tension dissolve as her hands gripped my shirt tighter. She melted into it—into me. The kiss deepened, not rushed, but steady. She responded more naturally now, following my rhythm, finding her place in it.
When we finally pulled apart, she was breathless, her eyes a little hazy. Her voice came out soft and shaken. “Okay. That was… different.”
I smirked, thumb brushing her bottom lip. “That was real.”
She looked up at me again, a little dazed, then snorted softly. “Okay, I take it back.”
“Take what back?”
“You might actually be an incubus.”
I paused, one brow arching. “Might?”
She blinked, clearly still riding the wave of what just happened. “Yeah. I mean… you still look and feel like Ethan. That part never changed.”
I frowned, lips pulling into a faint line. “Huh. Okay. That… kinda sounds like an insult.”
She shrugged, trying to play it cool, but her flushed cheeks and twitching lips gave her away. “It’s not. Just—” she looked away, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “You’re still you. That goof who bit into carrot sticks. Not exactly peak demon energy.”
There was a beat of silence between us. Her words rolled around in my head longer than they should’ve, settling like a warm ember just below my pride.
I slowly smirked. "I see." My voice dropped a little, that dark edge returning. “So you thought Ethan could never be… frightening.”
Tiffany froze. Her eyes locked onto mine again, guarded but curious. “That’s not what I meant.”
“I know,” I said, stepping closer again, slow and deliberate.
Her breath caught in her throat.
I tilted my head, the corner of my mouth twitching upward as I watched her watch me—closely, like she couldn’t decide if she should step back or lean in. I could feel the tension swirling back in.
My presence shifted—not full demon form, but just enough of that predatory grace to remind her of what I really was.
I didn’t move fast. I didn’t need to. I closed the distance with purpose, never breaking eye contact. My fingers brushed against her wrist first, light enough to make her shiver. Then they trailed upward, slow and deliberate, until I cupped her cheek.
Tiffany didn’t move away.
“You said I still feel like Ethan,” I said softly, fingers brushing the corner of her jaw. “But you’re forgetting something.”
Her voice was barely a breath. “What’s that?”
“I’m also the demon who walked through Lightglen’s defenses like they were paper. The one who made grown men drop their weapons and beg.”
She swallowed hard, eyes wide, pupils dilating just a little.
I leaned in close, my lips brushing just beside her ear, breath warm and slow. “I’m still that monster, Tiff. I’ve just been gentle with you.”
Her body tensed. Not from fear. From anticipation.
I moved my hand down, resting it lightly on her hip, my other arm coming to brush along her lower back. I pressed in just enough for her to feel me—my intent, my dominance—without even needing a single spell.
Her heart was racing. I could hear it. Taste it in the air.
