I came out of my portal skill into my living room with the grace of someone who had not just spent the last few hours making a soul-binding contract with his demon hunter step-sister in her bed.
Clothes—check.
Cupcakes—check.
Honey milk tea—check. Yeah, I just bought it as an additional peace offering on the way back.
I even made sure to return to my human form. The nice one. The normal Ethan version. Not the one with wings and horns and temptation written into his jawline.
“I’m home,” I announced like I always do—half joking, half hoping no one jumps me.
But instead of the “welcome back” echoing from the hallway, I was met with silence. Then I realized… everyone was there. Sitting like an audience.
Celia on the couch, her arms crossed.
Puriel perched beside her with a judgmental glint in her eyes.
Foxy, lounging like a cute smug fox should.
And all my pets lined up in some kind of weird, accidental seating arrangement.
Red was wagging his tail.
Shadow blinked at me like I owed him rent.
Buni twitched his nose, staring as if I’d just committed treason.
And Rave tilted his head with a low caw.
I froze in place like I’d just walked into a live sitcom.
“…What’s with the gaze?” I finally asked, shifting the box of cupcakes in my hand like it could shield me.
Celia raised a brow. “Well, you did just pop into the middle of the living room like a summoned demon.”
“Technically accurate,” Shadow muttered.
“We were watching TV,” Foxy added helpfully, tails flicking over her lap.
I looked behind me. Sure enough, the TV screen was paused mid-scene—some drama where a noble vampire was about to confess to a werewolf maid. Classic.
“Right,” I said, clearing my throat. I stepped aside like I was just casually portal-hopping through people’s lives. “My bad. I forgot this was a family channel.”
I grinned awkwardly. “I thought you were all looking at me like I was a criminal or something.”
Puriel didn’t miss a beat. “A sinner, to be exact.”
I blinked at her. “…Huh?”
She stood slowly, wings slightly rustling behind her like she was ready to recite holy scripture. “You slept with your mother, your aunt—which is me, by the way—your sister, and now your step-sister.”
Rave let out a long, dramatic caw.
Red coughed, but it sounded suspiciously like a barked “damn.”
“I mean,” Shadow chimed in, “it’s impressive, if we’re being honest.”
“Shut it,” Celia muttered, elbowing him off the armrest.
I sighed and rubbed my temple. “Pardon me for becoming an incubus. Don't blame me for my nature. It’s literally coded into my DNA.”
Puriel crossed her arms. “You’re not just an incubus anymore, Ethan. You’re a Nephilim. Half-demon, half-angel. You should have a better handle on your urges.”
“I do handle them,” I shot back. “Very thoroughly.”
Puriel narrowed her eyes at me like she was about to pull out a divine warrant.
“You reek of sex,” she said flatly, nose wrinkling. “It’s radiating off you. I’m surprised the TV didn’t short-circuit.”
I threw my head back with an exaggerated groan. “Oh, come on, I’m not that smelly.”
Foxy sniffed the air, leaned back, and gave me a look. “Master, I love you, but it’s giving… incense shop backroom with extra sin.”
“Betrayal,” I said, pointing at her. “From my own servant.”
Red leaned over and sniffed. His tail wagged. “Nah, it’s fine. Smells like confidence and bad decisions.”
“Which tracks,” Celia added with a mouthful of cupcake. “Also, your aura still screams ‘round two pending.’” she deadpanned.
Foxy leaned in, whispering with a sly grin, “Did you even let her walk after that, Master?”
I coughed hard. “Foxy, please.”
Celia waved her hand in the air. “Alright, alright, enough roasting my brother. Let the man breathe—preferably after he changes clothes and burns those sheets.”
“I don’t smell that bad!” I cried out again, more defensively this time.
“Oh, please,” Puriel said, waving a hand dramatically. “You walk into a room and women within a one-kilometer radius start squirming like they’re in heat. It’s not your smell—it’s your stupid incubus aura leaking out like some kind of—”
I had enough of this. So I did what any rational man would do in this situation. I cut her off.
“Here,” I said, holding out the honey milk tea. My voice was casual, but there was a hint of pride in it.
She blinked, caught off guard. “What… is this?”
“Popular brand. It’s from that trending shop everyone’s freaking out about on social media.” I said casually. “Sweet, expensive, impossible to get without lining up for forty minutes. You’re welcome.” Yeah, I cut the line with my Manipulation skill.
Puriel looked at the cup, then at me, then back at the cup. Like she was scanning it for poison or temptation. Then she took it.
Took a long sip.
Paused.
“…Okay,” she said, eyes softening. “I forgive you. You’re not a sinner. You’re a good guy. Half-demon, half-angel. Confused hormones. I get it.”
I raised a brow. “Really?”
She sipped again. “I mean, it’s honey milk tea.”
Crisis averted.
I turned to Celia next.
“Don’t say anything yet,” I warned, already pulling out the box of cupcakes. “Viral shop. Near the plaza. Limited edition.”
Her expression cracked instantly. She stared at the box like it was a long-lost lover.
“I love you, brother,” she said, grabbing it without hesitation and clutching it to her chest like treasure.
“I know.”
“But you’re still… kind of shameless, you know that?”
“I’m literally the Lord of Lust. Incubus lord. It’s in the job description.”
“And I love you.”
I stared at her for a beat, then deadpanned, “Yeah. I know.”
She groaned and shoved my shoulder. “You could at least pretend to be surprised.”
I shrugged, smirking. “I prefer to be consistent with my demonic brand.”
“Ugh.”
I gave her a two-finger salute and collapsed into the armchair with the kind of exhaustion that only comes after surviving judgment from my literal angel aunt, my judgmental sister, and a panel of small talking animals.
