I had the same phobia until about 5 years ago. I got myself a young tarantula and as it grew I became ok with bigger and bigger spiders. That did most of the trick, a few years working as a tour guide in the rainforest and talking about and handling spiders on a pretty regular basis did the rest. I don't think I have to worry about that phobia coming back, my needle phobia unfortunately is still around and attempts to reduce it haven't done much.
