🕑 Added 2025-12-11 23:01:02 +0000 UTC在整個《The Diplomat》劇集，英國政客、特別是那位首相的表現持續的窩囊，英國不斷下降的國力不斷被嘲笑，被說成是「地圖上越來越不重要的小圓點」。但現實世界的客觀現實卻正是那樣：面對美國的強勢，很多事情都要忍氣吞聲，去換取美國的貿易協定；縱然想過以俄羅斯、中國牌來搞平衡，卻又始終不敢再多引更兇惡的狼入室。
結果，英國首相就淪為一個處處想要顯示自己強勢、其實卻被呼之則來揮之則去的閒角。而且面對野心勃勃的外相，無時無刻都要擔心被下屬逼宮，自己的太太又非常強勢，心理明顯不平衡，中國歷史教科書常說的「色厲內荏」，形容得最好不過。
但回到現實，英國首相就真的沒有其他選項嗎？其實不是的。
劇集也提供了幾個機會，讓英國首相本來可以大放異彩。例如和現實世界一樣，澳洲本來購買了法國潛艇，後來改為購買英美產品，英國首相就用這個機會揶揄了法國一下。但他很快就發現，法國、德國有歐盟為後盾，說話依然有底氣，相反英國脫歐後就只能依靠美國，很多事情比從前更需要「硬食」。
首相本來也一度打腫臉充胖子，企圖對俄羅斯「問責」，認定對方是炸毀自己航空母鑑的元兇，結果反而是俄方大使多番示好，息事寧人。首相的底氣，就是來自把美國騎劫，有點像現在以色列總理內塔尼亞胡那樣，不過道行不同，效果也就截然相反。
順帶一提，這裏飾演英國首相的演員Rory Kinnear，從前在其他劇集也飾演過英國首相。那是在《Black Mirror》最轟動的第一集《National Anthem》，他被恐怖份子勒索，被逼全球直播和一頭豬性交。那一幕實在太深入民心，到了《The Diplomat》，偏偏在劇情毫無必要下，刻意安排大特寫他和妻子的性交鏡頭，那個露出八月十五的角度，和《Black Mirror》一摸一樣，很難不令人懷疑是否要影射他的太太是一頭母豬。
不過還可以自嘲，反映英國人依然是自信的。要是有一天，連這些也玻璃心了，大英帝國就真的徹底沒落了。

One must ask why Hong Kong and Singapore, both running under British systems, are more successful than London. Let me remind you some statistics: The entire welfare bill excluding pension: £140bn every year. Freezing the triple lock for five years would save £15bn every year by 2030 The figures above are to be computed against: Government Spending in R&D: £20bn every year Elizabeth Line Total Cost, All-In: £30bn If the government is determined for growth, if they manage to manage the working age benefits to only the 1/4 most needed groups, with genuine disabilities, we are looking into an annual savings of £105bn every year. Together with a temporary freeze in triple lock, we are looking into an annual saving of £120bn. To put that into perspective, by doing so, the British government would then be able to afford a grossly overpriced HS2 every year, or more preferably, quadrupling our R&D spending to £80bn, then fund an annual infrastructural update of the scale of the Elizabeth Line, and still leave £30bn for the government to fill their "fiscal blackhole", pencil a decent pay raise for NHS staffers and invest in the newly founded National Wealth Fund. Look at how British tech and AI somehow waltz into the third place in the world without any significant investments. Imagine what the Brits would be able to achieve if proper policies are in place. It is not that we can't build anything stellar in Britain, we have to be honest, we probably can. But the price will be paid by those on benefits, those who are not working and those pensioners who get an annual Winter Fuel Allowances. I know how to fix Britain’s problem. What I do not know, however, is how the hell to get elected to do so, and how can I get re-elected if I have done so

呢個自嘲係咪來自自信呢？我有少少懷疑。 其實反而另我諗起 The Crown 最後一季，劇中皇室成員全部嘅styling 亂七八糟，由英女皇嘅選角，到Prince Charles 唔合身嘅西裝，果個刻意嘅程度令我感覺到係意識形態嘅宣示….
