Aaron mentioned Taiwan and I recently came across a decent under the radar political film about Taiwan. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1121786/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

It's hard to say how much of Israeli insanity is for show and how much is genuine. Netanyahu has historically been a very canny politician and he only moves when he knows that his Western backers will let him get away something. So it seems that while he has been given a free hand in the Levant and in fact Turkey, EU, and GCC all very much want the destruction of indigenous governments in the Levant in order to get Gulf Arab gas to Europe. Nuking countries, especially anything above one or two tactical nukes at Syria, Lebanon, or Iran, seems like a possible redline that nobody except the eschatological end of days loons are willing to entertain. As to level of commitment of the Israeli public. The settlers still haven't returned to the north or the Gaza envelope and this is the craziest bunch. They're cool with killing without repercussion but I've seen very few who are willing to die for their "cause". Let's hope so, at least.

Would be interested to hear what is known about the threat of nuclear attack due to the so-called 'Samson Option', a scenario where there is no protection from deterrence. What would be the prospect of successfully defending such an attack? Is the fear of such an attack a significant factor in determining policy towards Israel?

Peter and I both know the ussr/Russian history pretty well, so any error is obviously just one of us misspeaking.

I loved the discussion; but, please stop referring to the Russian Federation as the Soviet Union.
