The connection between magnetism and circadian cycles

In 1975, another interesting experiment was conducted by Professor Richard Blakemore at the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory noticed that certain bacteria always moved to the north side of their culture dish. He observed them under an electron microscope and discovered that each bacterium had a chain of tiny magnets made of the natural magnetic mineral magnetite. These bacteria use the magnets to help them navigate.
Through a series of controversial experiments, Baker has demonstrated that humans possess an innate ability to detect magnetic north as well. This ability can be temporarily obstructed by placing a bar magnet on a person's forehead for just fifteen minutes. Baker further asserts that this disruption in directional sense can last for up to two hours following the application of the magnet. It is suggested that the strong magnetic field may interfere with the normal alignment of magnetite crystals, causing a temporary loss of directional sensing until the crystals return to their usual orientation.
Biological cycles are similarly controlled not only by light cycles during the day and night but also by daily tidal changes in the earths geomagnetic field. It would make sense that cyclic patterns In the earths magnetic field, — even if extremely small —- could have a similar impact on our circadian rhythms.
Becker described the impact of magnetic fields on the pineal gland beautifully in cross-currents:
‘it has been shown that the pineal is also sensitive to the daily cyclic pattern in the Earth's magnetic field. Melatonin secretion in human subjects may be changed at will by exposure to steady magnetic fields of the same strength as the geomagnetic field. Apparently, nature determined that biological cycle activity was too important to be left to one environmental signal alone.
At the present time there is great interest in the psychiatric community about the probability that abnormal secretion of neuro-hormones by the pineal is linked to many behavioral abnormalities. Medicine, in general, has become aware of the fact that disturbances in the biocycle pattern are of considerable clinical importance. For example, the primary effect of a chronically abnormal biocycle is the production of chronic stress syndrome, a condition that produces a wide variety of clinical problems, including a marked decline in competency of the immune system. Most recently, it has been shown that the time when cancer chemotherapeutic drugs are administered during a patient's biocycle is a major determiner of their effect. Given at the appropriate time, they are more effective against cancer cells and produce fewer side effects than if given at the wrong time’
Nature intended the pineal to simultaneously receive the same signals from the daily pattern of day-night and the same rise and fall in strength of the geomagnetic field. Obviously, when one or both signals are abnormal, the pineal does not respond in the normal fashion, and the body's biological cycles become disturbed-with important clinical consequences’
There you have it. So the question you’re probably asking is ‘how do I hack it’? Because we’ve become particularly disconnected from the earths magnetic field while simultaneously being bombared with electromagnetic fields from electronic devices, we need to find ways to ‘hack’ our environment.
1. Grounding
Grounding, also known as earthing, is the practice of connecting oneself to the natural electrical charge of the Earth. This practice has gained a lot of attention recently in the alt health community. However, for grounding to be effective and safe, it must be done correctly. Missteps in grounding, such as connecting a grounding mat to a wall outlet or grounding in areas with underground wires can negate the benefits.
One common method people use for grounding indoors is connecting a grounding mat to a wall outlet. While this may seem convenient, it carries risks. Many homes are not properly grounded, and even if they are, the quality of the grounding can vary. If the household electrical system is not correctly grounded, you might inadvertently expose yourself to ‘dirty electricity’ instead. Dirty electricity refers to a form of electromagnetic interference that can come from various sources, including household appliances and electrical wiring. Instead, it’s better to connect your grounding mat to the ground with a grounding rod — but there’s a few things to consider here as well
When grounding outdoors, it's crucial to be mindful of the location. The ideal grounding spot is one that is free from electrical interference and provides a direct connection to the Earth. Here are some guidelines to ensure effective grounding:
Before grounding, make sure the area is free from underground electrical cables, pipes, and other infrastructure. These can interfere with the grounding process and introduce unwanted electrical currents.
One of the best places for grounding is the beach. Sand and seawater are also excellent conductors of the Earth's electrical charge. Walking barefoot on the beach or lying on the sand allows your body to absorb the Earth's energy directly, without any interference.
you're using a grounding rod it's important to place it in a location that you know is free from underground wires. One effective method is to stick the grounding rod into the base of a tree. Trees are deeply rooted in the Earth and can provide a direct and clean connection to its natural electrical charge. This also ensures you’re far away from any electrical infrastructure since the roots of the tree will get in the way.
You can run a long grounding wire from a tree, through the window (you can close the window over the wire) and then place the mat on your bed or somewhere you spend a lot of time.

2. Magnetico sleep pad
The Magnetico is a bit more expensive. But if you have the money for it, it’s a fantastic option.

1. Black sand beaches are best, and the best place to ground on ANY beach is where the sand meets the water. This is where conductivity will be best. Grounding after a thunderstorm (especially on the beach) is best of the best.
2. Wearing leather solled shoes or sandals can be used for grounding, particularly out in nature or other areas where you know there’s not any electrical infrastructure under the ground. These do not block charge. You can also buy specifically designed ‘grounding’ shoes that allow for a direct connection to the earth as well
3. The soles and palms have axillae sweat glands, making these locations of the body the ideal biological surfaces to ground with. Grounding can be done when any part of the body is in contact with the earth or a grounding mat. But hands and feet are best for the same reason as water + sand — better conductivity. Wetting these areas of the body (or the grounding mat itself) will improve the effect.
4. Grounding while in the sun allows the body to retain more electrical charge.
5. Stay hydrated. In order for grounding and even therapies like PEMF and microcurrent to work properly, we also need to be adequately hydrated. This will impact impedance. Supplements like magnesium, Shilajit (particularly for the minerals and fulvic acid) and salt can dramatically improve the benefits of grounding and ‘electro therapeutics’ like PEMF.
The biophysics of grounding — science for the nerd and curious reader
To delve deeper into the biophysics of grounding and microcurrents, we can explore the underlying principles of bioelectricity, ion dynamics, and the interactions between biological tissues and external electrical fields.
Biological cells maintain a resting membrane potential, typically around -70 mV in neurons, due to the differential distribution of ions across the cell membrane. This potential is how we generate of action potentials.
This equation describes the equilibrium potential for a particular ion, helping to understand how changes in ion concentration affect membrane potential. When grounding occurs, external electron influx MIGHT alter local ion concentrations, impacting the Nernst potential and overall membrane dynamics. While we don’t have tons of large studies demonstrating this, the mechanisms make complete sense.
Grounding may affect ion channel behavior as well. For instance, voltage-gated ion channels open or close in response to changes in membrane potential. The stabilization of the membrane potential through grounding could enhance the efficiency of these channels, facilitating better signal transmission. This is part of the reason treatments like frequency specific microcurrent appear to work well for a variety of conditions, including pain and injury. FSM is a treatment itself that demonstrates the biological plausibility of receiving the alleged therapeutic benefits from the microcurrents created in our tissues via the grounding phenomenon.
Cells can sense and respond to mechanical and electrical signals through mechanoreceptors. Grounding may provide a continuous mechanical stimulus through the earths electric field, influencing cellular behavior, gene expression, and tissue remodeling. Again, this has been demonstrated with FSM, and we have some evidence that PEMF therapy also creates micro-currents in the tissue that have similar effects
Tissues can act as capacitors, storing and releasing electrical energy. Biological pigments like melanin especially seem to act as a biological semiconductor of sorts, which explains some of the benefits of grounding with regards concurrent sun exposure. The resistance of biological tissues and cells to electrical flow can be altered by grounding, thereby restoring cell voltage. Changes in impedance can influence how electrical signals propagate through tissues, which is going to impact communication between cells. In order for grounding and even therapies like PEMF and microcurrent to work properly, we also need to be adequately hydrated. This will impact impedance. Electrical fields can also induce conformational changes in proteins, affecting their function. We’ve seen this with PEMF therapy and protein folding. Grounding may stabilize or alter the conformation of membrane proteins, which is going to influencing receptor activity and downstream signaling pathways and cascades

I saw Dr. Bonlie say that grounding pads don't work because they act more as an antenna for emf, do you think that is accurate? Do you use a grounding pad with you magnetico or just the magnetico?

I have a grounding mat from Intuition Physician that supposedly has a grounding cable that filters dirty electricity and blocks any nnEMFs that are near the cable. I think that could be an option for people who live in an apartment.
