Sorry for possibly replying late; I have questions about how much (or how little) science supports (or doesn't) calories in/calories out too. Ragen Chastain critiques it as a myth here: https://weightandhealthcare.substack.com/p/leaving-the-calories-incalories-out Virginia Sole-Smith also describes it as a myth and cites Anti-Diet by Christy Harrison (a book I admittedly haven't read yet) for further reading on this: https://virginiasolesmith.substack.com/p/the-thing-your-husband-really-needs Based on what I've read from Chastain, Sole-Smith, and other sources, to the best of my knowledge, weight is not a good indicator of health; to be heavier isn't necessarily to be unhealthier. That's not to say there's never a correlation, there are people for whom greater weight is correlated with health problems: https://virginiasolesmith.substack.com/p/lumpy-fat-ladies-lipedema#details And regardless, healthism is bad, and health is not a moral imperative. We shouldn't shame people who try to improve their health through weight loss or other means, and it's inherently problematic to make assumptions about health based on a person's size and/or weight and/or personal choices regarding food, movement and more, or to judge people for supposedly not making healthier choices.

haha I've been dragging my feet because I didn't want to make a decision about the "make clips public or not" thing

Since you brought up your Q&A for Patrons: I don't remember seeing an invitation for the one next Wednesday. Did the dog eat it, or am I just being daft as usual? :P

Thank you! I've been too lazy in my non work related reading.

Oh and here's a recent study on the Obesity Paradox I found interesting https://www.escardio.org/The-ESC/Press-Office/Press-releases/study-shows-obesity-paradox-does-not-exist-waist-to-height-ratio-is-a-better

That echos my issue with MP...I've only heard bits here and there but they seem a bit sloppy when it comes to the actual science, especially CICO. I love a science-based take on stopping fatphobia but I think it's irresponsible to pretend weight loss is more complicated, and in fact too complicated, to the point where people shouldn't even try to lose weight if they want.

I kept hearing friends discuss the Maintenance Phase podcast on several of these topics. I have some nitpicks, but I do think there were a lot of citations I need to make time for. I think they were a little too hard on CICO, but they cover a ton of the complications that people often ignore (calories used in digestion, potentially damaging metabolism, etc) that I do think add to the discussion. The topic I really want to evaluate/understand is the Obesity Paradox though.
