We extend our sincere apologies for the hiatus during the winter, which affected bug fixes, new builds, and news updates for Bare Backstreets.
During the development period, our team faced challenges as two active programmers, including the lead programmer responsible for bi-weekly builds, and an assistant handling miscellaneous tasks and bugs, departed. The assistant programmer left on amicable terms to pursue a personal furry RPG project, while the lead programmer resigned to explore a local job opportunity without completing their duties. Subsequently, it was revealed by third parties that the lead programmer had engaged in bad faith conduct towards fellow staff, both during and after production, with no intention to complete the game or provide proper documentation for a replacement. Consequently, the developer has been blacklisted from future projects.
Swiftly filling these senior programming roles proved challenging, leading to a revolving door of casual programmers. Finding skilled individuals specializing in the beat 'em up genre, unoccupied with other projects, posed a significant hurdle. After several attempts with different individuals, we have now secured two programmers whom we trust to take on lead roles.
Our new lead programmer was discovered actively contributing within the Greenie Meanies community, demonstrating a deep understanding of Bare Backstreets through reverse engineering and mod contributions. They have proven their reliability by offering accurate work estimates, independently resolving long-standing graphical and optimization issues, and demonstrating a commitment to the project's success.
Notably, they have optimized the color pallet system, reducing sprite file sizes and enhancing resolution. Additionally, they have meticulously edited every sprite, eliminating visual artifacts and reconstructing sprite atlases and sheets for improved fidelity. Their communication with collaborators and community members reflects respect and enthusiasm.
Our second new programmer is diligently working on a character creator demo for Amorous 2, showcasing professionalism and dedication. Simultaneously, Kabscorner, my wife, has honed her 3D modeling skills to contribute significantly to the demo's completion. The goal with our character creator is to make a customization suite that allows you to produce amazing, unique or callback furry characters that then can be saved for personal use such as a reference sheet, or carried over to the main game. We also intend to support save data to customize the gameplay experience, such as adding new NPCs or replacing dateable characters. The demo will serve as the spiritual successor to Fursona Maker and hopefully, generate enough interest to fund the development of the full dating game.
Originally planning to prioritize Amorous 2 development while addressing Bare Backstreets programming issues, recent positive developments have allowed the new team to anticipate a full recovery. The programming lead has committed to a full-time role, dedicating 40 hours a week to the project effective January 1st—more than the combined hours of our previous employees. We aim to provide playable content for both projects by the end of January, leveraging this momentum for continued progress.
We'll be back in just a weeks time to cover a lot of awesome community and fan projects that have come out in the last month, including 3D animations of BBS characters, MUGEN mods, the BBS crew in Bombrush Cyberfunk and the release date for our physical BBS comics!

Hey I understand, sometimes things just don't go as smoothly as planned. It's just good to see that progress is being made towards getting back on track. And as I noted, I realize that trying to fix old issues, work on new content, and get used to working with new staff members is going to take some time. In this instance it just seems enthusiasm might have clouded judgement as to the release date of new builds for either project. I have faith that we'll see new builds out relatively soon, assuming everyone is back into the groove of things. I'm still dedicated to seeing Bare Backstreets grow and develop, and I hope that the future of this project goes better than the past had thanks to a certain... *EXCEPTIONAL* individual.

I am sorry for the hiatus and scarcity of news while we restructured the programming team. I like to speak with confidence, enthusiasm and excitement when making these posts, as Bare Backstreets and the world of characters we are building means a great deal to me. It's disheartening to make empty promises if I'm not certain we are able to deliver that month with new content. I can say now that our confidence in the team is restored now that we are working with people that are far more professional about game dev and not just clout.

Glad to hear that things are getting back on track, and that this project isn't getting suspended! Can't wait to see further progress, though I acknowledge that as with all things, it will take time, especially between bug fixes, new content, and of course getting used to working with new people (even though they sound great!). I'm dedicated to seeing this project continue to grow and blossom into the game you envisioned it as.
