Spooky Halloween News Nugget!

This month in the backstreets kicks off a new Patreon tradition of indulging a dev log every few weeks, both to make our news feed a little more fun for new fans and those hungry for a crumb trail of whats to come in the big update releases!
Animated gifs and screenshots used to be something we included in public posts but after getting a spank on our plump juicy butts from the Patreons trust and safety team for including too much lewd words and material for the wholesome christian masses, we will now be using metaphors to explain our more questionable features!
These posts will be a combination of what we've been working on for the game and any major bumps in the road or celebrations worth sharing along the way!
New Enemy Type: Snoggler!
All art assets are complete for a new tiny gremlin enemy that scuttles along the ground, walls and ceilings before lunging at the players face, latching onto their vibrant personalities and causing them to want to start spontaneously accepting Jesus Christ into their life on the spot!
We decided to release another enemy in-between developing Jade to simplify the workload for our new programming lead MrD69! Our previous programming lead RearmedDreamer unfortunately resigned from the project on short notice, meaning a bit of an adjustment period of training and familiarity was needed before we could develop at full speed.
Thankfully, D69 is a long-term game jammer and Unity developer and has learned the ropes of what we need for BBS quickly and is almost finished coding for Snoggler! Many optimizations such as reducing load times, pixel compression and greatly reducing the file size of our developer build has been fixed a long the way. We should be back to our normal monthly release schedule come November!
Baby Onboard!
Lead artist for BBS Kabscorner and myself are found out this month that we will be starting a family! Hopefully our child doesn't turn out like the Snoggler, but even if they do we'll still love them. We have been quietly hoping and trying for kids for most of the year without much success. Fortunately, the month we became distracted with other priorities is the time we got lucky!
Our first Ultrasound confirms that there is indeed a tiny healthy heartbeat and that there are no early warning signs of first-term misfortune. Fingers crossed we sail across into the second trimester without any worries! We have already sold our car and invested in a family sized SUV to prepare for baby seats and our family of dogs.
Appendix No More!
Two days after our good news of a baby on the horizon, I had to be whisked off to hospital due to appendicitis! I'm normally the type to ignore pain and power through but unfortunately I was vomiting and unable to walk. It was fortunately diagnosed and removed before it could burst, though it was inflamed and leaking into my gut.
I am now safely hope and back to work! Though I can't stand up for more than a couple of minutes at a time and I'm not allowed to lift anything over 10lbs for 6 weeks. It shouldn't have much impact on our upload schedule and I'm feeling a lot better than I was before surgery!
Amorous 2!? Could it be true?
While not officially in development, our team and some early fans/collaborators had begun practicing and brushing up our 3D modelling, rigging and animation skills to see if we can make the sequel for our first successful furry dating game in 3D. We do intend to officially support the title in 2022 once Bare Backstreets is complete and released on Steam.
So far, we have had some success building a pretty competent character creator with a large assortment of body sliders, though our ability to work on this side project has been limited this month due to our health complications. Hopefully, we'll be able to work more in November on what we can do in terms of texturing and shading to settle on an art style. Ideally, we would like the game to look similar to the first, but rendered in 3D. This means we are hoping to create a convincing toon shader that emulates the lineart thickness typically seen from furry artists.

6 Slithery Snogs!
Here is an early look at all our Snoggler pallets! You'll notice across all of our enemies that colors 4-6 follow a consistent theme of frost, toxic and crimson. These will be tougher variants with some elemental effects, higher health and double damage that you'll need to watch out for during your brawling!
You can expect the Snoggler update to come out within the week, including the reveal of the male and female praying scenes for each player! I will keep making news nuggets to post in the middle of each month inbetween the big updates. Thankyou to everyone for your patients and we have a lot of improvements coming your way!

(side note: i'm in school for programming/IT/cybersecurity, i know how long coding literally anything takes and i don't mean that first sentence in a bad way at all <3 you guys are doing your best and you're doing an amazing job!). also, congrats on the kid! i have an 11 month old son and this first year has easily been the happiest, and the most confusingly frustrating, year of my life. get ready (as much as you can :p), i wish you guys the best!
