I am seriously (or even serously) loving the current storyline, dark as it is. I'm not going to say that the last few months has been a bit too much smooth sailing for our beloved protagonistas. Well, maybe I am. It's been feeling just slightly too utopian to feel plausible to my hindbrain. This new storyline is...the farthest thing from utopian. It's right on the edge of too dark. That's not where I'd want it to stay forever; part of the deep charm of The Daily Grind is its hopepunk heart. "Nothing is more punk than caring about other people", as they actually do say. But it's fascinating, and refreshing, and in some sense "back-to-its-roots", to see The Daily Grind digging in for a good, old-fashioned dungeon crawl. And the fact that it's a hideous horror show of a dungeon, most of the participants are completely inexperienced at dungeon crawling, and all of them were explicitly sent into the deep heart of a murder-dungeon *as an attack* by a freaking *suicide bomber*... ...yeah. Dark, dark, dark. This is the first dungeon that has felt *malicious* since the Akashic Sewer. Even the mountain just feels...angry. This dungeon feels like it *hates*. Like it wants to watch you *suffer* and feel *helpless* before you die. And like it's even *better* at it than the Akashic Sewer. The Akashic Sewer feels like the distillation of the awfulness that is high school; the loneliness and the compulsory participation and the internecine viscera-tearing and the sadistic overlords and everything else. This feels like the distillation of the awfulness that is end-stage capitalism; dark streets and no health care and random violence and being hopelessly trapped in an environment that fundamentally just *views you as food*. Like the Akashic Sewer graduated and went to college and got trapped in a literal lifetime of debt and took a dead-end job and finally one day went out and bought a gun and, well, there's just no end of tragedies you can reify with a gun, amirite? I may be reading too much into this, but I'm just saying: that's the *feeling* I get from this dungeon. I'm really wondering why the rescue teams (and there are, most assuredly, rescue teams by this point) haven't already showed up, guns blazing, having used the cafe as the destination for some telepads. My guess, if I had one, would be that the telepads still read the cafe's "location" as being where it used to be, and that's where telepads take you; but that's more "the only explanation I can think of for the observed fact that the cavalry has not yet rid to the rescue", and it's really more of a "Because Magic![tm]" than an explanation, at that. I'm looking forward to finding out the actual reason why. Anyway, thanks for giving us a good, old-fashioned, scary-as-all-heck dungeon crawl!

Quinn

Hope everything is okay and don't feel bad if you have to take time to get better
