“We are yours until you sell us or we are captured and enslaved by another.” Naro says. “Please Master, do not question our loyalty. We love you.”
“We love you.”
“We l-l-love you.”
“Stop that.”
“Yes Master.” Naro takes the big platter of food and looks to me for permission to set it down on my thighs. I nod. He sets the platter down while Susi heads back to the kitchen area to tidy up. Taking a slice of glistening dry cured ham between a finger and thumb he brings it to my lips. I hesitate a moment and give him a look, but give in and take succulent fatty morsel into my mouth.
“Mmm.” I chew and swallow. “A bit o’ that cheese next.”
Naro’s face brightens and he begins to purr as I allow him to serve me. The other two begin to purr as well filling the space with an incredibly relaxing background churr. The temperature is perfect as a mild tepid breeze flows through the room. The very mild and tantalizing musk of the Catboys mixing with the savory smells of the food and wine delights my nose. The rich flavors of the sumptuous feast swim in my mouth. The golden evening light streaming in from outside dims and an oil lantern is lit to give the hovel a lovely glow. “When you’re done there…” I nod toward the open door. “…come find me by the well.”

I exit the hut and make my way to the well. Sitting upon the stone edge I watch the last sliver of sun disappear beneath the horizon. Already the prismatic band of the Gods’ River painted a streak across the darkened sky above me, the fat yellow gibbous moon floating within it. I point up at it. “This is your fault old man.” I chastise the moon god. “I won’t thank you or curse you just yet, but just know that I know that the fault is yours.”
As I sit in the peace and listen to the happy noises of my three slaves in the house the sun sets and the gloaming hour descends over the land. It isn’t long before I hear Tiku padding toward me with a swift stride.
“Sir!” He stands at attention.
“Unsaddle the horse and see to him.” I say without looking his way.
“Yes Sir.”
“I’d like you to give him a name as well.”
“Me? But he is yours.”
“I know. But you caught him and rode him. No easy feat I imagine.”
“He is willful, but a fine strong steed.” He says. “I shall name him Fury.”
“Heh.” I chuckle. A play on my last name, it didn’t surprise me. I look over at him, his tufted ears and head were silhouetted by the dim light escaping the hut. “I have something else for you to do first though.”
“Anything Sir.”
“Take Susi from the hut.” I nod toward a lone brassy leaved maple out in the field. “Set him up there. Don’t let me see him. Don’t let me hear him.”
There is a long pause. “Master?”
“He won’t be coming with us Tiku.”
“But he is yours. You hold his papers.”
“They will be burned.” I reply. “He is free.”
“Sir! Please…you cannot leave him in such a state.” Again a pause, pain pours through in Tiku’s voice. “I love him Sir. He is…my brother.”
“No, he is not.” I say flatly. “I refuse him.”
Yet another pause as my words slowly sink in. “May I ask why?”
“He is…” I let out a grim sigh. “…defective.”
Tiku takes a long breath and straightens up, chin square. “Yes Sir.” He says dutifully. “Understood Sir.”
Damn that’s cold. Just like that his love for his brother had flipped. Susi wasn’t one of us. He was an outsider. He was not loved anymore.
“Treat him well.” I say, remembering their callousness to each other before. “See that he is warm for the night.” I take a breath. “And tell him…if he follows us in the morning…that we will kill him.”
“Yes Sir.”
“Go.”
“Yes Sir.”
With that Tiku turns on his heel and marches back toward the hut. I shift around the well so that my back was turned to it, I did not want to see what would follow. That was hardest conversation I’d ever had but one that needed to happen. I didn’t understand what power Susi held over me but I knew it was one that would bring me to my knees. I had to be rid of him before I lost myself.
Back in the hovel there is a moment of silence before a tortured yowl cuts the night. “N-N-NOOOOOO! MASTERRRR!”
“Gods, he doesn’t know what he’s asking!” Naro’s raised voice says desperately. “Let me speak with Master.”
“Wh-what’d I d-d-do!? I-I-I s-sorry…!”
Tiku’s angry voice cuts off the others. The three argue for a moment. Eventually though Tiku conveys my command and the seriousness with which I gave it. The voices lower though continue to bicker, with Naro now switching to support his master’s orders.
“B-b-brothers…!” Susi pleads.
“You are no brother of mine, runt.” Naro hisses. “You do not belong here!”
“…p-p-please…”
Gods! Must they be so cruel?
The last thing I hear from Susi is the mewling weeps of a broken man as he is lead from the house and out into the empty field. I take a long deep breath and remind myself of how necessary this was. He would be okay. Someone would find him or he would find his way into town. Somebody, somebody without Orc blood, would claim him soon enough and he could happily serve their house for the rest of his life. This was for the best.
Tiku returns and sees to the horse, unsaddling it and giving it a good brush down. Bringing up some water I splash my face and nod at doing what needed to be done.
Getting up I head back into the hut. It takes every ounce of will I had not glance toward the distant maple. Reentering the place I find it clean and tidy, one last act from my former maid. The mood is far less celebratory but not nearly as gloomy as I was expecting.
“I have the bed made for us Master.” Naro smiles as he runs his hand along the mattress that now lay flat on the ground with blankets atop it. “I hope you do not mind if I sleep naked tonight.”
“Fine by me.” I quip, trying to match the mood of the others. “I always sleep in the buff.”
“Mmm, good to know.” He grins.
“May I share your bed too Sir?”
“Of course Tiku.”
The three of us ready ourselves for sleep with no mention or acknowledgment of the blue haired cutie who had so recently been one of us. It was as if Susi never existed. The lantern is snuffed and the three of us all snuggle down in one big happy mass.
“Happy Thrallday.” Tiku whispers one last time and kisses my right cheek. “I am blessed.”
“Happy Thrallday.” Naro whispers and kisses my left cheek. “This is truly the happiest day of my life.”
I stare up into the darkness as their warm naked bodies cuddle close, one in each arm, and mutter hollowly. “Happy Thrallday.”

This short has been wonderful do far! I'm sure with how this chapter ended, the next one/few will have a much more raw emotional feeling to it. Well...at least In my eyes it would. Keep up the magnificent work and happy holidays!
