The setting for this fight is at the "top" of the destroyed Garlean dreadnaught Agrius . The event of Midgardsormr destroying the dreadnaugh can be seen in the original FFXIV 1.0 opening movie cinematic, and also is shown early on in the ARR main story quest line.
