I still far prefer the way you are doing the names. It can get tedious trying to keep up with completely fabricated names. If LotR wasn't so damn good, no way anyone would have bothered to learn an entirely fabricated language. My nickname on here is from a character I created in high school, it makes a handy nick and email because it is not a word anybody uses, but it can cause a lot of confusion when I say my email and no one has any idea how to spell it. Using known words, names, and spellings makes immersion both easier and harder, for me it is better, but I know some people disagree. A good balance I have noticed is in the books by L.E. Modesitt Jr. He uses a lot of known English names with altered spelling, like making Derek into Deryck, or Michael becoming Mik'aeyl, etc. It gives known names a fantasy feel. Only works with print media though.

Thanks for the advice! I'll give it a shot - iIn next chapter of my life, I will write something.

I know up to the ending and the major plots between. It’s the middle parts that I still need to figure out. I had three endings ready when I first started, depending on how well the story did. It’s something I like to tell people wanting to write on Royal Road. To have a short, medium, and long ending ready. That way, if the story bombs, you have an early ending so you won’t have to leave what readers you did make hanging.

Thanks for engaging with the plebs! I like your books. How far ahead you know, where the story goes, if that's not a secret? Silvi Ramsey... that's magical.

SunriseCV

Yeah. I understand, especially if you're someone who knows the origin and stuff. I knew I would run into the problem, especially with my naming sense, so I made sure to add that early system chapter with the language stuff. Hmm... Oppenheimer could be a good middle name for Silvi. Or Silvi Ramsey Hunt.

Jaroslav Zapadlo

I just really wanted him to be called Sparky :-( Fair enough. Altough feels weird, like naming Silvi Einstein or Oppenheimer

SunriseCV

Isn't it the same for most etymology, though? Blitz is the German word for lightning. How did Edgar know a German word? It's all System language, too, not Cydarian language. It's kind of the same way that inches, feet, meters, or any other measuring system would be used. It's all derived by something or someone. If nothing else, you can take it as the System translating it into a word that Derek would understand. That's pretty much established very early in book 1.

Vralnii

English doesn't exist in Cydaria, whatever language they are using is being translated by the author/Derek for us to read. So some word about the fundamental measurement of energy is likely the dragonkin's name, which was translated to "Volt" for us to read.

Jaroslav Zapadlo

The term "volt" is named after the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta. Alessandro Volta was a pioneer in the field of electricity and is best known for inventing the electric battery, known as the Voltaic Pile, in 1800. The unit "volt" was named in his honor as a way to measure electrical potential difference. It's a fundamental unit in the International System of Units (SI) used to quantify electrical voltage. How is it possible that word and name "Volt" exists in Cydaria?
