How To Draw The Twisting Torso
🕑 Added 2022-11-04 18:50:28 +0000 UTCWe can't just look and copy our way out of the difficult of drawing the human body, not without lots of frustration and even more hours.
I've found, it's way more fun to simplify our way to success. In this Figure Drawing Lesson, I show you how to do just that.
I call it my Simple, Yet Characteristic Process. I slowly simplify each challenge down to a place that feels manageable.
And then, build it back up in detail and complexity while having the satisfaction that it feels right at every step...
That it -- as I like to say -- Rings True!
Thousands of pros and beginning artists have benefited from this simple strategy. And I'm confident you can too.
Suggested Homework:
1. Sketch for a few minutes throughout the week Simple Yet Characteristic Tubes that are suggestive of a Torso, twisting or not.
(Make sure you build in that Long Axis Curve)
2. Working from the Photo or Old Master reference provided, sketch out a simple tubular solution as my training demonstrated. And if you feel confident and knowledgable enough, experiment taking a few of the attempts a little farther than just a tube as I began to do with the hips.
Enjoy with love, Steve Huston

I love your book Steven! I have read through it several times now. But these videos have been so much more informative to my draftsman education, maybe that’s just because I’m more a visual learner, but I’m starting to connect the ideas from the book with the process thanks to this Patreon! Can’t express my gratitude enough! Thank you sir 🙏🏾
