It used to stress me out when a friend said they streamed Pandora music in their car all the way to my house. All those zillions of bytes, heating up and bothering all those copper electrons and switches and routers...how much activity can there be before the earth just blows up?
And that is how you write Roast Beef: by copy-pasting from the primary buffer into the Adobe Illustrator boxes.

Hidden in this stream of invective against the modern age and the climate apocalypse it makes all the more certain every day is the revelation that Roast Beef thinks Teodor is handsome.

Conversely, a phone call feels like being trapped in a burning building.
Joe Allocco
agree on almost all points but trapped in a burning building feels like a phone call
Alex Ruppel
I'm dating sodium man

I don't even like voice calls. Asynchronous communication is superior for almost every use case because it allows both participants to time-slice the interactions with whatever else they are doing, including responding to the most time-sensitive inputs first. I'm happy to hear my older sister completed the LEGO set I sent her. I don't need a phone call about it. I'm shocked to learn that my friend is trapped in a burning building and 911 isn't responding. I'll pull over immediately and try to contact 911 myself. Still no need for a phone call, and it would even slow the process down and interfere with my driving. Text communication also puts a light pressure on participants to be brief, except for weirdos like me who use messages.google.com to send and receive texts so we can use a full-size keyboard and a 30" monitor or a fancy laptop with a nice keyboard and 16" screen. Then we can type at full speed which is sometimes faster than verbal communication. Probably. Yes, this topic hit a nerve and I have no regrets posting about it.

Goddamn the last story arc is really fantastic but if this ain't some perfect Achewood
Eli Parker
Anyway, there's only one reason to ever have a video call, and that is because your stupid job is making you do it.
Eli Parker
Old people like video calls because they came up in a time when new technology was game-changing and always good and they've been trying to chase the high of being the first on the block with a color TV their whole lives.
Guilherme Töws
well good news, streaming music in the car spends less energy than driving the thing in the first place
Christopher Hastings
I love my Achewood Fridays.
Nathan
the dude has got no mercy
Chris Onstad
Saw the reply about the negative comment; let’s just excise that stuff here ok? Sorry to have edited but I want this place to stay positive, it’s amazing how clean it’s been for half a year. Thanks Allan!

Sodium gets around. No way it'll settle down just with Beef.
Joshua M
Ok good um what is your least sodium food item
Lionstooth
Beef speaks for all of us who do not wish to be Perceived
bentleyjet
This is so Achewood
Ben Cooper
This is timely. I also hate video calls with a passion. Maintaining eye contact while having a conversation freaks me the hell out. I have an attention problem and I don't want the person I'm talking to wondering why I'm scanning their eyes, nose, ears, facial hair, shoulders, the floor, a bird passing behind them etc. If it's an audio call I can focus on the sound and the meaning of the words they're saying, which results in more memorable and meaningful interaction.
GruntyGinMan
T is never right.

Throwing car batteries is a safe, fun, clean activity that recharges electric eels
Julie (HiDeeHoGal)
Sodium: Respect. Moderation.
Nicholas Williams
Ray did him nasty with that call, there's no doubt about it.
Tom PM
I fully agree!!! End video calling
Jenn
Does Triangle Man hate Sodium Man
Allan
Also you could probably cut like half the panels for use in alternate-version strips, this is hella wordy for the punch lines
Allan
Several billion people texting each other hello every morning is not the same as throwing car batteries in the ocean. I'm not committed to that belief.

Did Molly lose a bet again.
Cody Richmond
Time was a phone call could just be “no” or “I won’t be there…” Beef doesn’t realize he’s Being Beef when he says that.
W. C.
Ray delivering a hard CRTL + ALT + DEL to all of T's hard work there.
Joe Locastro
"Put a hose in it, mongrel!" is a new classic but I'm really here for Beef's defiant expression after his statement about movies.
Alex Schlesinger
Sodium Man just wants respect and moderation.
Christopher Malone
Perfect setup and ending. I laughed too hard.
Cf Duddy
“FaceTime” could be a horror film
Colin Sueyres
I guffawed, against my best efforts to not do so.
Brian Sutton
Can't wait to explain my Sodium Man costume next Halloween.
Hunter
Is Teodor referring to when Beef proved himself a Coward that would abandon a dying man?
Don Rowe
God damn if my in-laws don't PROCLAIM on that Facetime, all heavily artifacted video and entirely too much wattage being forced through those teeny-tiny iPhone speakers generating frequencies unproducible by nature yet somehow perceptible to my organ of Corti
Jay Y
Sodium Man didn't make it into the They Might Be Giants song (too unhealthy, looked like he was about to stroke out)
J Hardy Carroll
I thought all Sodium Man's babies self-aborted because hella sodium
Jacquelyn R Walters
But did T stop to consider that Ray is an unrepentant asshole?
Matthew Harris
They both are.
Rob Dalton
Humanity is all Thelma & Louise on the carbon output. It is know, khaleesi.
Glen N
This one really got me. Beef's face, "sodium man". Hardest I've laughed in a minute. Beef is comprehensively right throughout, of course.
Josh Egbert
Even when Teodor is right, he's wrong.
Matthew Harris
It's Friday night, the fish is frying, and that means Achewood. It's become downright Proustian.
Steamed_Grahams
God dammit Ray.
