To clarify, I'm laughing at the 99PI joke and not trying to brag in the context of your reading struggles! That reply out of order looks uglier than intended.

Brian

Hah! This beautiful nerd finished the audiobook in like March, and have been jonesing for something substantial to sink my teeth into ever since, much to the disbelief of my younger, book-report-eschewing self. The only appealing options at this point time (besides catching up here while vacationing in the other Portland) seem to be relisten to it this fall, or start LBJ.

Chris Onstad

I am currently having the same relationship with Titan by Ron Chernow, John Adams by David McCullough, and, of course, Infinite Jest by Mr. Typey-Pants

Tom PM

No, you've sussed me entirely Chris. My failure to continue to read The Power Broker since this comment was posted has shown that my brain is a fortress into which no books or knowledge shall enter.

Chris Onstad

Nearly invisible...you might say 99%! (If yours was a genuinely scholarly comment from actual books and knowledge, I will clarify that 99% Invisible has just brought this figure large back to the current dialogue, for the audio-type learner.)

Brian

I wonder what tender young age Robert was when unapologetic Paul accidentally broke the bridge of Robert's recently acquired toy train set. One look at a road map of NYC might tell you, in part, how much the senseless tragedy stung, but nowhere will you find a number that accurately represents the true cost to humanity of the tiny, nearly invisible slight made by an unwitting child to a younger sibling.

E Corcoran

Mon semblable - mon frere! I scrolled looking for such a comment, must have missed yours in a fit of blindness.

Matthew Harris

No, I brought it up too, but indirectly, because Nice Pete did not Ask for my Opinion

E Corcoran

Am I alone in finding the general disappearance of the correct past participle disheartening? Dragons must be slain.

Donald Turnbaugh

Nice Pete has a few Issues with children I guess

Datura

this pete fellow has gumption! nice pete 2024

Bungus Bronbo

I take back the part about glamor muscles, Ray is actually self assured to a fault and not one to care if people dont like him. I honestly can't call him vain.

Tom PM

That baby? Robert Moses.

C C

That cup looks like a 'medium' fast food drink cup. In fact, I'm thinking Ray Just came from a fast food location. He got the so called "Chicken Tortilla Wraps" to be healthy. He knows he shouldn't but he can't resist a few of those fries shaped like one of those staircases that keeps turning in circles as it goes up. So he limited himself to a medium iced tea instead of soda. He's feeling kinda proud of himself.

Blaine Bowman

IM HOLLERING. Thanks nice Pete, I’m feeling much more prepared to for my friend to get induced next week, perhaps I’ll gift her some sort of ceremonial knife. It’s nice to know that I can choose the manner of my own death.

Cf Duddy

Goody! He can write to me at: John D. P.O. Box 1112 Guantánamo Bay, Cuba

Jay Y

Nice Pete's worldview would have been shaped by The Omen, were he permitted in town where Satan's moving pictures flicker in a dark room.

Oppido

Nice Pete guest-edits the Philippe Times when?

Chris Onstad

I forwarded this to him

Cf Duddy

Oh Manhunter is 🤩

2scrogz

I wonder if Nice Pete ever finished that bible adaptation with Ray in the role of Jesus... I would read the fugg out of a Nice Pete penned creation myth with stoned Ray as the main character.

J Hardy Carroll

What's the difference between Nice Pete and AI? Nice Pete has ethics. Of a sort.

GruntyGinMan

He ponders this at the cold, cold waters of Texture Creek.

Chris Onstad

That was definitely bouncing around in my head somewhere

b.zap

Something bubbly sweet to wash down a heaping slice of Rasmus Cake I bet

RBM

Watch Manhunter instead, you'll enjoy yourself more

Jeff Holt

It alarmed me how similar this is to my feelings about babies.

emitydna

Nice! Pete is back!

Hunter

Took me one panel to know Who had written the column.

Greg Earnest

Is Ray's "abbita habbita" the noble heir to Ralph Kramden's "homina homina"?

Zen Window

abbita-habbita encompasses that moment as no other onomatopoeia possibly could

Occluded

With a dragon being slayed it was either going to be Jordan Peterson or Nice Pete. So I guess Ray lucked out.

Chris Selvig

A masterclass in "even a great cast cannot lift bad direction and script."

Josh Egbert

Next Week: Nice Pete volunteers with Achewood's Big Brother program! Hilarity ensues! Stay tuned!

Brian Sutton

"Yours will be the first hatred it knows and all dragons must be slayed." God damn Chris I mean Pete. What a line!

Cf Duddy

Nice Pete always makes me think of the submediocre [blech] film, Red Dragon

Matthew Harris

Torn between my pedantic nature, which demands correction of "slayed" to "slain", and my general preference to have my lungs on the inside of my body

Yelahneb Unicornucopiax

Nice Pete telling the hard Truths

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

He writes poniards, and every word stabs.

Bungus Bronbo

Ray 100% is coming from the gym. He's got that pump going, and probably has that highly branded Reusable Workout Kup (TM) filled with high sugar-octane pre/post workout that completely cancels out any dumbbell lifting he did to help out his glamour muscles.
