Breakbeat of The Month #3: a whole new discovery! (video + samples + projects)
🕑 Added 2024-05-12 11:22:52 +0000 UTCSo I (with some help) have discovered a whole new break, which, I am pretty sure, hasn't really been used by the breakbeat community much.
What's the song and who helped me? Where did I use it before? Well, watch the video and find out! Grab the break as well as Ableton and Bitwig projects before.
Hope you enjoy!
(My audio is a bit off sync here and there; after a whole of configuring things and testing stuff, I'm still having sync issues when I use my iPhone as camera, which gives me nice quality but fecks up audio sync, so I have to fix things manually, which is major pain and time hog...hence in some parts you may see it's slightly off, but this shouldn't affect learning. May have to go back to using my iMac camera, which ain't the greatest, but doesn't create issues)
BTW if you like the content, it'd be super nice if you let ppl know of my Patreon ā it would help it to grow! I would love more new paying members and also interaction (what I miss from my Youtube days is the interaction :-)

Original break (= music parts removed)
Ableton Live project (as seen on the video)

BTW if you want to grab a breakbeats cap, get one here: https://fanumusic.com/shop/
(sorry I can't offer discounts on those, as profits on those print-on-demand products is already really low ā as opposed to if I hustled them all myself, which I don't have time for...used to do it some 10 years ago when I had much more free time on my hands)

That break is from Weather Report-Misterious Traveller. That band were a super group, ahead of the time with Joe Zaniwul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorious was there too for a couple of albums. Thanks for the lession, it was great. I love this series!

no, the ketamine
Janne Hatula
This breakbeat? Probably not :)
Curry Sinatra
now i know what stranjah has been on this whole time
Janne Hatula
Yessir, good idea! Will def keep this in mind when picking breaks (not all breaks work at all tempos)
Curry Sinatra
can you make a downtempo beat from a break in a next episode? i think that will bring forward different nuances than when making dnb
Janne Hatula
Bass sound choice is directly relative to ketamine used on that particular day!

"no not that one I'm not on ketamine" .....lol spat my coffee out when you said that. Cheers for this much respect Fanu

I've def EQd kicks and snares, and sometimes resonant hihats too, for a better end result. Whatever it needs! Doing some filter envelope might work nice instead of a lowpass.

ghosties (TM) Do you ever eq individual hits within a break? For example would you consider taking the air out of a hit with a lowpass? Or would you say that would mess with consistency of the overall sound

Very nice. I knew it could but haven't tried. Good to know. Thanks!

Had to test, and yeah, BWS can load the Live project; everything works, chops are fine, Serum plays fine. Only levels are slightly off, but that's because the Ableton-native devices aren't loading. Handy!

Glad you like! Ah heck, sorry, I've only been using Live 12 for some time ā don't even have Live 11 anymore :-/ You can prob grab the audio file .asd from the project and that will prob work and give you the chop points, and then you can chop it to drum rack...I hope!

Great vid & the break sounds amazing any chance we could have an Ableton live 10 template for the break as Iām still using live 10? āŗļøš
Janne Hatula
No probs, glad you like it! Btw I think BWS can load Ableton projects too (will test soon)!
