you can try a simple trick. do a copy/clone of the body (it should have the texture on it, if not, just re-apply the texture to the clone body), then hide all parts except the chest. you should normally have now both outfit + chest. just be sure to resize the outfit or the chest a bit smaller/bigger to avoid clipping. This trick work in 99% of situations.

Can the shirt be used with the chest, though?

Seems like the shirt deletes (hides?) the chest below it ... any way to revert that change?
